The effect of hepatic branch vagotomy on liver regeneration induced by ursodesoxycholic acid was examined in 66% hepatectomized rats. A standard feeding was obtained from animals with hepatic branch vagotomy, and all rats examined received pair food intake. Liver regeneration was evaluated by the hepatocyte mitotic index. The mutagenic effects of microwave and chromium trioxide (CrO(3)) on Vicia faba root tip were studied. Deferasirox (commercially formulated as Exjade(®)) is one of the effective iron chelators used in treatment of iron overload diseases. Pleural epithelioid mesothelioma (PEM) is divided into low and high grades based on nuclear atypia, mitoses, and necrosis in the tumor. Mitotic regimen was studied in 52 choriocarcinomas and 45 hydatidiform moles. A clear-cut correlation between the rate of proliferation and degree of hyperplasia of the trophoblast was established for hydatidiform mole. Choriocarcinoma revealed higher values for mitotic index, incidence of pathologic mitoses and the profile of abnormal cell division patterns. Higher mitotic index and incidence of pathologic mitoses in cases of choriocarcinoma were associated with less favorable clinical course of the disease. The presence of villi ruled out the diagnosis of choriocarcinoma.

A biopsy case of endolymphatic stromal myosis, a rare neoplasm of the uterus, which occurred in a 33-year-old female was described. The histology was typical and resembled stromal cells of proliferative phase endometrium. The tumor extended in the endometrium and diffusely infiltrated into the myometrium and the parametrium. However, 3H-thymidine labeling index was low suggesting slow growth of the tumor.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the early histological effects of the intravesical instillation of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in rabbit models of interstitial and hemorrhagic cystitis.
METHODS: Thirty-six rabbits were classified into 6 groups: saline (S), S+PRP, hydrochloric acid (HCl), HCl+PRP, cyclophosphamide (CyP), and CyP+PRP. At 48 hours after induction, PRP was prepared and intravesically administered to the S+PRP, HCl+PRP, and CyP+PRP groups. Bladder sections were stained with toluidine blue for mast cell counting and with hematoxylin and eosin for histopathology and mitotic index determination.

The proliferative activity in the endometrium of 58 bitches in different stages of the estrous cycle was assessed by immunohistochemical detection of the Ki-67 proliferation associated nuclear antigen and by counting mitotic figures.
