A 62-year-old man presented with a 2-year history of a 2-cm cystic mass involving his occiput. There had been recent enlargement, and the clinical impression was that of a pilar cyst. Histopathological sections showed a partially dermal solid and cystic proliferation. The tumor contained areas of glandular differentiation with cuboidal to columnar cells lining luminal and cystic spaces. A concurrent spindle cell proliferation was seen interspersed between glands and also formed broad, cellular sheets of cells. The stroma was sclerotic and without chondroid or myxoid elements. Immunohistochemis

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Myoepitheliomas (MEs) are rare tumors of the parotid gland. Only a few case reports describing CT imaging features of ME have been published. The aim of this study was to describe and characterize the CT findings of MEs of the parotid gland.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed CT images of ME with pathologic correlation in 10 cases (4 men and 6 women; age range, 30-70 years) collected between August 2003 and October 2007 from our pathologic database. All of the CT images were retrospectively evaluated with respect to the location, size, marginal morpholo

Myoepithelioma is a rare neoplasm of the salivary glands, generally occurring in the parotid gland and less often in the mi-nor accessory salivary glands of the oral cavity. It is known to be a rare entity occurring at unusual locations, which makes it difficult to diagnose. Such a rare case of myoepithelioma in salivary glands present at an unusual location around the left orbit is presented here.

AIMS: We report an example of malignant myoepithelioma of the vulva, which has not been hitherto described. We discuss the differential diagnosis and briefly review the literature.
METHODS AND RESULTS: The lesion was found in an 81-year-old woman as an indolent 40 mm tumour. The neoplastic cells showed a myoid, spindled, epithelioid and plasmacytoid phenotype. Hyalinization of extracellular material and myxoid changes were present. There was a partly solid and microcystic pattern and a tight cohesiveness of cells was lacking. The circumscribed multinodular tumour somewhat resembled an extrare

The clinical, light, and ultrastructure features of a myoepithelioma occurring on the hard palate of a 24-year-old woman are presented and compared with 41 myoepithelioma of the head and neck described in the English literature. These 42 tumors (39 benign and 3 malignant) occurred in individuals from 14 to 81 years of age, affected both sexes about equally, and most often presented as a slowly enlarging, asymptomatic mass. The parotid gland and palate were the most common sites of occurrence. The tumors are typically circumscribed and encapsulated, vary from 1 to 5 cm in the greatest dimension

Myoepithelioma is an uncommon benign tumor of the orofacial region arising from the salivary glands. These tumors are composed of specifically myoepithelial cells lacking ductal differentiation and were initially considered as a type of pleomorphic adenoma. Though they commonly arise from the parotid gland, there are a few cases that emerge from the minor salivary glands of the palate and oral cavity. Myoepitheliomas resemble many other tumors arising from the palate including pleomorphic adenoma. This report depicts a case of myoepithelioma of the minor salivary gland of the palate in a 23-ye

Myoepitheliomas are rare benign tumours that affect the exocrine glands and are sporadically located in the salivary glands. The most common location of myoepithelioma in the oral cavity is the parotid gland and it is seldom encountered in the palate. The diagnosis of this entity is challenging since its clinical presentation may resemble those of more common neoplasms, rendering a complex histopathological diagnosis. The aim of the present case report is to describe an unusual case of myoepithelioma of the soft palate in a male patient, which developed as an asymptomatic, slowly growing mass.

Myoepithelioma is a very rare neoplasm that accounts only for about 1% of all salivary gland tumours. As the lesion is so rare, there are no specific recommendations or guidelines for its treatment. In the literature, there have been only a few cases reported without any existing data concerning radiotherapy. We present a very good palliative effect of radiotherapy in a very old man.

Myoepithelioma is a rare, benign salivary neoplasm, most frequently located in the salivary gland; extrasalivary cases most commonly occur in the palate. This tumor is prone to recurrence. We present a case of recurrent myoepithelioma in the nasal cavity with a palatal fistula treated both by a palatal approach and a piriform apertural approach. The combination of these approaches widens the surgical space, allowing removal of the mass. It is important not only to excise the mass but also to allow for reconstruction.

Oncocytoma or oncocytic change in salivary glands normally occurs in old patients and mostly in the parotid gland, but those arising from the grossopalatine gland in young patients are extremely rare. The present case shows that oncocytic ductal structures were observed in myoepithelioma, consisting of spindle, plasmacytoid or epithelioid cells. The oncocytic tumor contained large amounts of eosinophilic granular cytoplasm and small nuclei.

Myoepithelioma-like tumours of the vulvar region (MELTVR) are a newly described group of spindle cell neoplasm. Morphologically, they consist of epithelioid to spindled cells in a myxoid to collagenous stroma and can resemble epithelioid sarcomas, myoepithelial carcinomas or extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcomas. However, they have a distinct pattern of immunohistochemical staining characterised by positivity for EMA, ER, PR and negativity for cytokeratin, GFAP and S100. Nuclear staining for INI-1 is lost. In addition, they lack the characteristic gene arrangements of these other lesions. MELTV

BACKGROUND: Myoepithelioma of the soft tissue (MES) is a rare neoplasm, and available literature includes few studies with small sample sizes, thus limiting the comprehension of this disease. Hence, a systematic review was performed to summarize the available information on MES patients evaluated for surgical treatment.
METHODS: The MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE and SCOPUS databases were reviewed for eligible studies in January 2019. Inclusion criteria were: patients with MES; indication for wide resection or amputation; observational studies; articles published from 1997 to 2018; English language;

BACKGROUND: Myoepthelioma is a rare salivary gland tumor which is usually located in parotid gland and in minor salivary glands.
CASE REPORT: We report a case of myoepithelioma arising in an accessory paritid gland in a 47-yearold woman who presented with a slowly expanding subcutaneous nodule on the left cheek, that was within the parotid gland at surgical resection . This tumor was composed of spindle cells. Immunophenotypical characterization demonstrated its myoepithelial nature.
CONCLUSION: In the subcutaneous tissue, this unusual neoplasm may be confused with soft tissue tumors showing

Myoepithelioma of the vulva is a rare condition, with only three cases having been reported so far. As a consequence it is quite difficult to decide on the appropriate management due to the paucity of data. We present our case together with a review of all relevant literature in order to collect and summarise the experience accrued so far, and draw conclusions regarding the management of these myoepitheliomas when they appear on the vulva. It seems that vulval myoepitheliomas can be of low- or high-grade malignancy and that the grade, which determines the prognosis, should be the main factor t

Myoepitheliomas are rare benign tumours of head and neck. The parotid gland is the most common site of origin. It consists on proliferation of myoepithelial cells and it shows some features similar to preomorphic adenoma although the ductal elements are very low. Diagnosis requires histology and immunohistochemistry because fine needle aspiration often shows erroneous results. Limited parotidectomy is the choice treatment. We report two cases of parotid gland myoepithelioma confirmed by immunohistochemistry.

Myoepithelioma is a rare neoplasm of the salivary glands, generally occurring in the parotid gland and less often in the minor accessory salivary gland of the oral cavity. The histological appearance includes solid, myxoid and reticular growth patterns. Vimentin and S-100 protein are very sensitive but non-specific immunohistochemical markers of neoplastic myoepithelium. Conservative surgery is the treatment of choice. A case of myoepithelioma of the minor salivary gland of the cheek with low grade malignancy is described, focusing on clinical behaviour, histopathological and immunohistochemic

A case of malignant tumor developing from myoepithelial cells (malignant myoepithelioma) is presented. The primary focus was located in the region of the left submandibular salivary gland. A relapse and metastases were disclosed in the same salivary gland, in the lung and the left breast. Immunohistochemical studies demonstrated positive reactions for S-100 protein, cytokeratins, smooth muscle actin, vimentin, GFAP protein, p53 protein and Ki-67 antigen, and allowed for establishing the final histopathological diagnosis of malignant myoepithelioma.
