Unraveling the Relationship Between Vitamin D and Noncommunicable Diseases: A Systemic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Subclinical vitamin D insufficiency is frequent in both developing and developed countries. Even after rickets was eliminated in the 1930s by fortifying milk, up to 1 billion people worldwide suffer from subclinical vitamin D deficiency (VDD). Numerous noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), including depression, autoimmune illnesses, diabetes, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular disease, are linked to this deficiency. METHODOLOGY: The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol was applied when conducting a systematic review. Relevant studies publis

DNA methylation as the link between migration and the major noncommunicable diseases: the RODAM study.

Aim: We assessed epigenome-wide DNA methylation (DNAm) differences between migrant and non-migrant Ghanaians. Materials & methods: We used the Illumina Infinium® HumanMethylation450 BeadChip to profile DNAm of 712 Ghanaians in whole blood. We used linear models to detect differentially methylated positions (DMPs) associated with migration. We performed multiple post hoc analyses to validate our findings. Results: We identified 13 DMPs associated with migration (delta-beta values: 0.2-4.5%). Seven DMPs in CPLX2, EIF4E3, MEF2D, TLX3, ST8SIA1, ANG and CHRM3 were independent of extrinsic genomic i

Epigenetic programming for obesity and noncommunicable disease: From womb to tomb.

Several epidemiological, clinical and experimental studies in recent decades have shown the relationship between exposure to stressors during development and health outcomes later in life. The characterization of these susceptible phases, such as preconception, gestation, lactation and adolescence, and the understanding of factors that influence the risk of an adult individual for developing obesity, metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, is the focus of the DOHaD (Developmental Origins of Health and Disease) research line. In this sense, advancements in molecular biology techniques have contr

Tax and noncommunicable diseases attributable to tobacco and alcohol consumption in 5 Sub-Saharan African countries.

BACKGROUND: Increased taxation on alcohol and tobacco is among the cost-effective measures used to deal with the burden of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) globally. Despite adopting such efforts, the impacts of taxation on alcohol and tobacco are yet to be fully understood. OBJECTIVE: The study's objective is to find empirical evidence regarding changes in the NCD mortality rate associated with changes in the tax rates of tobacco and alcohol. METHODS: The study adopted the System Generalized Method of Moments (SGMM) to explore the relationship between levels of taxes and NCD mortality rates.

Dissimilar associations of same metabolic parameters with main chronic noncommunicable diseases (cancer vs some other NCDs).

Hormone-dependent tissues' cancers (mainly breast and endometrial and several others) are among the most frequent malignancies in adults and are often discussed in context of their correlation with other chronic noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), for example, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular conditions, and their risk factors, which may also be hormone metabolic. An idea that is often expressed delineates common factors leading to NCDs of malignant and nonmalignant nature. However, this idea is not always confirmed by study results. The reasons for this discrepancy are not clear and require fu

Socioeconomic and behavioural factors that contribute to the co-occurrence of risk factors for noncommunicable diseases.

It is observed that the global burden of diseases had shifted from infectious diseases to Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), with an accumulative trend in developing countries. NCDs share key modifiable behavioral risk factors like unhealthy diet and lack of physical activity that are typically established during adolescence or young adulthood and will set the stage for NCDs development later in life. Therefore, this paper aimed to explore factors contributing to the co-occurrence of risk factors for NCDs among persons aged 30 years and above in selected urban areas of Namibia. Specifically, th

Bioactive peptides from beans with the potential to decrease the risk of developing noncommunicable chronic diseases.

Several studies have demonstrated that peptides obtained from the proteins of different bean species have the potential to act on therapeutic targets of noncommunicable chronic diseases or NCDs. However, peptides with great structural diversity can be obtained from the hydrolysis of proteins present in foods. Therefore, the present review had the objective of identifying, in silico, the possibility of obtaining peptides with potential biological activity from the storage globulin proteins of the bean species Phaseolus vulgaris (L.), Vigna angularis (Willd.), Vigna radiata (L.) and Vigna unguic
