PURPOSE: This study aimed to assess the dimensional alterations in the anterior region of the orbit after enucleation or evisceration.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Analysis of orbital areas and perimeters of 17 patients with unilateral removal of the ocular bulb was performed, and posteroanterior radiographic examination was carried out by a single specialist, who had been previously calibrated.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: In contrast to the literature on enucleation, reports of hydroxyapatite (HA) implantation during evisceration are limited; however, those that have been published mention the high HA exposure rate. The authors examined the scleral quadrisection procedure to evaluate its effect on cosmetic appearance and the prevention of HA exposure after evisceration.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: To describe the clinical and histopathological features of an aggressive ciliary body adenocarcinoma with pulmonary metastases and skull base spread.
PROCEDURES AND RESULTS: A 45-year-old female patient presented with a post-traumatic phthisical eye that was eviscerated. This showed an unexpected carcinoma (positive for cytokeratins and melanocytic markers), the histological differential diagnosis for which included a primary ciliary body adenocarcinoma or a metastasis. The patient developed rapid post-surgical localized recurrence that required an orbital exenteration.

INTRODUCTION: Malignant orbital diseases may lead surgeons to practice an orbital exenteration associated with chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy to ensure curative treatment. That radical procedure makes physicians consider reconstructive filling in order to allow prothesis wearing and reduce esthetic and social after-effects.
