Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) with tenofovir disoproxil fumarate and emtricitabine was adopted by WHO as a strategy to reduce HIV incidence. Although shown to be highly effective in reducing HIV acquisition, the protective efficacy of oral tenofovir disoproxil fumarate and emtricitabine relies on optimal adherence, which poses a challenge for a key portion of the most at-risk populations (women, young individuals [15-24 years], racial and ethnic minority men who have sex with men, and transgender women). New PrEP agents in clinical development include novel oral agents (eg, tenofovir alafena

BACKGROUND: Since 2000, a steady increase of vaccines used for both rabies Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and rabies Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) given to Danish travellers was observed. This study aims to evaluate whether the increase of PEP and PrEP was due to increased travelling, increased awareness of the need for PrEP, or more animal bites per travel, leading to more PEP being administered, in order to assess the need for changing the recommendations. We also described in which countries Danish travelers most frequently reported possible exposure to rabies, and evaluated the timeline

INTRODUCTION: There are gaps in knowledge and experience of antiretroviral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) delivery in adolescents.
METHODS: This pilot study enrolled Thai adolescents 14-20 year-old without HIV who reported risk behaviour. All participants were offered daily tenofovir/emtricitabine (TDF-FTC) and followed for 24 weeks. HIV testing, renal function, bone density scan, and sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing including syphilis serology and urine molecular testing for gonorrhoea and C. trachomatis were performed at baseline and weeks 12 and 24. Adherence was evaluated thr

BACKGROUND: The HIV epidemic in the United States (US) disproportionately affects gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM). Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) using co-formulated tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) and emtricitabine (FTC) has demonstrated high efficacy in reducing HIV incidence among MSM. However, low adherence was reported in major efficacy trials and may present a substantial barrier to successful PrEP implementation. Rates of adherence to PrEP in "real-world" clinical settings in the US remain largely unknown.
METHODS: We reviewed demographic and clinical data

Switzerland is rabies free since 1996 (except bats). However sporadic cases in animals (imported dogs and local bats essentially) may occur from time to time. The disease is always fatal, which implies special attention when someone gets bitten or scratched by a wild or unknown animal, not only in a country with a high endemicity, but also in Switzerland. In this article, we will explore in detail the modalites of application of pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis following the publication of new recommandations from the Public Health authorites of Switzerland.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) are central strategies for HIV prevention; however, a comprehensive understanding of how knowledge about these strategies is measured across different contexts remains limited. This scoping review aimed to map the instruments used to assess knowledge of PrEP and/or PEP. The study followed the recommendations of the JBI Reviewer's Manual, with a systematic search conducted on August 27, 2024, in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Virtual Health Library, and grey literature. Original studies assessing knowledge of PrEP and/or P

OBJECTIVE: Sexual and gender minority (SGM) people account for up to 40% of youth experiencing homelessness. SGM youth experiencing homelessness report a higher likelihood of engaging in behavior that puts them at risk of acquiring HIV. To address this increased risk, it is necessary to identify difference in awareness and use of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among SGM youth experiencing homelessness.
METHODS: Using intake forms from a single service provider in New York City, New York, that specializes in providing shelter and health care for SGM youth experiencing homelessness, we con

INTRODUCTION: HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is highly effective when taken as prescribed. Digital health adherence interventions have been identified as effective for improving antiretroviral therapy adherence among people with HIV, but limited evidence exists for PrEP adherence interventions among people without HIV. The purpose of this Community Guide systematic review was to present the characteristics and effectiveness of digital PrEP adherence interventions.
METHODS: The author searched the CDC HIV Prevention Research Synthesis cumulative database for digital health interventions wi

It is estimated that 450,000 American women are at increased risk of infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and yet only 7% have a prescription for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). PrEP is a safe and effective method of HIV infection prevention via a daily use of an oral combination antiretroviral pill or longer-acting intramuscular injections. Gynecologists are experts in women's sexual health, and provide over half of annual preventative health visits, but are not yet routinely providing PrEP to patients, citing lack of knowledge as a major barrier. The authors aim to provide the

BACKGROUND: Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a medicine that can reduce HIV transmission. Given the disproportionate impact of HIV on minority communities, health equity is an important consideration in PrEP research. We aimed to assess equity reporting in systematic reviews of PrEP using the PROGRESS Plus framework.
METHODS: We conducted a systematic search of PubMed (MEDLINE), Embase and Cochrane databases for systematic reviews or meta analyses of PrEP usage. We then used the PROGRESS Plus framework to extract inclusion of the following domains: place of residence, race/ethnicity/culture

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The discovery of innovative pharmacological preventative measures in Human Immunodeficiency Virus transmission has boosted optimism in the successful control of HIV/AIDS with the objective of eradication and the end of the epidemic. Hence, assessing the effect of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) on HIV prevention among key populations (KPs) is imperative in advancing the conversation on ending HIV/AIDs.
METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study using data from KPs (female sex workers (FSWs), men who have sex with men (MSM), and people who inject drugs (PWIDs) enrolled

OBJECTIVES: HTLV-1 is predominantly a sexually-transmitted infection but testing is not mentioned in HIV-PrEP guidelines. We ascertained HTLV-1/HTLV-2 seroprevalence amongst HIV-PrEP users in England.
METHODS: An unlinked anonymous seroprevalence study.
RESULTS: Amongst 2015 HIV-PrEP users, 95% were men, 76% of white ethnicity and 83% had been born in Europe. There were no HTLV-1/HTLV-2 seropositive cases (95% confidence interval 0% - 0.18%).
CONCLUSIONS: There were no HTLV positive cases, likely reflecting the demographic of mostly white and European-born individuals. Similar studies are n

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to assess HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) provision in U.S. health centers.
DESIGN: The U.S. Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) initiative designated health centers as the main healthcare system through which PrEP scale-up occurs. Health centers offer primary care to over 30 million disproportionately uninsured, racially or ethnically minoritized, and low-income patients. This study is the first to assess PrEP provision across health centers, including characteristics of clinics, patient populations, and policies associated with PrEP prescribing.
METHODS:

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) has been shown to be an effective method of HIV prevention for men who have sex with-men (MSM) and -transgender women (MSTGWs), serodiscordant couples, and injection drug users; however fewer than 50 000 individuals currently take this regimen. Knowledge of PrEP is low among healthcare providers and much of this lack of knowledge stems from the lack or exposure to PrEP in medical school. We conducted a cross sectional survey of medical schools in the United States to assess the degree to which PrEP for HIV prevention is taught. The survey consisted Likert scale

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) has revolutionized HIV prevention, but PrEP does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Rates of STIs are rising worldwide, with notably high incidences among PrEP-using men who have sex with men in high-income countries; in low-income and middle-income countries, data are sparse, but results from a limited number of studies among African women initiating and taking PrEP have shown high STI prevalence and incidence. Efforts aimed at markedly reducing HIV in populations worldwide include a major focus on increasing PrEP use, along with

Consistent dosing of tenofovir/emtricitabine-based HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) can reduce HIV infection risk by up to 92%. However, clinical trials have shown low PrEP adherence (34-71%), resulting in reduced effectiveness. To improve PrEP's effectiveness, adherence to a daily PrEP regimen is essential. This report explores patients' patterns of PrEP initiation and use and their PrEP-related perceptions to provide greater understanding of patient motivations for beginning and adhering to PrEP. At two urban primary care clinics, individual coaching sessions that included semistructured
