Intravoxel Incoherent Motion Diffusion-weighted MR Imaging for Monitoring the Therapeutic Efficacy of Interventional Photothermal Therapy with Nanoparticles in Rabbit VX2 Tumors.

INTRODUCTION: In this study, we evaluated the efficacy of transcatheter intra-arterial infusion of lecithin-modified Bi-Ln nanoparticles (Bi-Ln NPs) combined with interventional photothermal therapy (IPTT) using a rabbit VX2 tumor model, employing intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted imaging (IVIM-DWI) for assessment. METHODS: Thirty-two rabbit liver VX2 tumor models were established, and transcatheter intra-arterial infusion of Bi-Ln NPs was performed using superselective intubation under digital subtraction angiography (DSA) guidance. IPTT was then carried out by inserting a near

Comparison of computer-aided quantitative measurement and physician visual assessment in the evaluation of intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis: a vessel wall magnetic resonance imaging study.

BACKGROUND: Intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis is a leading cause of ischemic stroke in China. Accurate assessment of intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis through imaging techniques is crucial for guiding therapeutic interventions and prognostic stratification. Vessel wall magnetic resonance imaging (VWMRI) has emerged as a reliable method for evaluating intracranial arterial vessels. With the advancement of technology, computer-aided quantitative measurement (CAQM) is increasingly used in imaging assessment. This study aimed to compare physician visual assessment (PVA) with CAQM in the VW

Spreading depolarization and angiographic spasm are separate mediators of delayed infarcts.

In DISCHARGE-1, a recent Phase III diagnostic trial in aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage patients, spreading depolarization variables were found to be an independent real-time biomarker of delayed cerebral ischaemia. We here investigated based on prospectively collected data from DISCHARGE-1 whether delayed infarcts in the anterior, middle, or posterior cerebral artery territories correlate with (i) extravascular blood volumes; (ii) predefined spreading depolarization variables, or proximal vasospasm assessed by either (iii) digital subtraction angiography or (iv) transcranial Doppler-sonogr

The accuracy and cost-effectiveness of strategies used to identify peripheral artery disease among patients with diabetic foot ulcers.

BACKGROUND: Patients with diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) should be evaluated for peripheral artery disease (PAD). We sought to estimate the overall diagnostic accuracy for various strategies that are used to identify PAD in this population. METHODS: A Markov model with probabilistic and deterministic sensitivity analyses was used to simulate the clinical events in a population of 10,000 patients with diabetes. One of 14 different diagnostic strategies was applied to those who developed DFUs. Baseline data on diagnostic accuracy of individual noninvasive tests were based on a meta-analysis of pre

[An unusual case of carotid arrosion bleeding].

Carotid bleeding is one of the most severe complications in ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgery. It is a rare complication in patients with cancer of the head and neck after radiochemotherapy. We report the case of a 65-year-old man who suffered from cancer of the tonsils (pT2pN1M0) and was treated in 1987 with surgery and local chemotherapy. Since then he reported recurrent bleeding in the left cervical region especially during physical exertion. The patient was re-operated and during surgery the tip of a catheter was found in the external carotid artery, obviously a remnant from a catheter fo

Clinical significance of mesenteric arterial collateral circulation in patients with celiac artery compression syndrome.

OBJECTIVE: Although extensive collateral arterial circulation will prevent ischemia in most patients with stenosis of a single mesenteric artery, mesenteric ischemia may occur in these patients, for example, in patients with celiac artery compression syndrome (CACS). Variation in the extent of collateral circulation may explain the difference in clinical symptoms and variability in response to therapy; however, evidence is lacking. The objective of the study was to classify the presence of mesenteric arterial collateral circulation in patients with CACS and to evaluate the relation with clinic

[Hemoptysis as the first sign of ruptured thoracic aorta].

Acute aortic rupture is associated with a high mortality. The leading symptoms are chest pain, dyspnea and hemodynamic instability as well as hemoptysis. In the current case report a patient with known coronary artery disease and prior coronary artery bypass surgery presented with hemoptysis. He was initially treated for a presumed gastroenterological disorder. The chest X-ray delineated a structure suggestive of aortic rupture and this diagnosis was confirmed by computed tomography. Emergency treatment was performed by implantation of an endovascular stent prosthesis. This procedure is curren
