Transection of the Vestigial Anterior Communicating Artery Limb during Microsurgical Clip Ligation of a Large, Ruptured Anterior Communicating Artery Trifurcation Aneurysm.

Unrecognized anatomic variants of the anterior communicating artery (AComm) complex can increase periprocedural risk during aneurysm treatment. A trifurcated AComm complex remains rare, with an incidence below 1%. Furthermore, vestigial AComm limbs may be difficult to appreciate on preoperative imaging. This video illustrates the intraoperative identification of a vestigial AComm limb and its transection to visualize and effectively clip a large, ruptured AComm trifurcation aneurysm. A middle-aged female presented with subarachnoid hemorrhage secondary to an 11-mm AComm aneurysm and was also f

Healing Together: Advocating for Community Mental Health Through Restorative Circles in Low-Income Latine and Pre-Columbian Indigenous Immigrant Communities.

Low-income immigrant communities experience significant trauma and structural health inequities, particularly in mental health access, quality of care, and outcomes. This study evaluates the effects of restorative circles as a community-driven intervention for psychological trauma among low-income Latine and Pre-Columbian Indigenous immigrants in rural California. We conducted three focus groups (N=34), each representing a distinct immigrant community. Findings revealed diverse, community-specific challenges: Relocated immigrants (n=14) reported post-COVID-19 trauma, economic precarity, and th

Building community through engagement in a Hub-and-Spoke, Peer-led Community Aphasia Group program: the perspectives of participants with aphasia and their close others.

PURPOSE: Long-term social support is a key protective factor for living well with chronic disabilities. Community Aphasia Groups (CAGs) provide opportunities for connection and recovery. To address service availability challenges, we developed the Hub-and-Spoke, Peer-led CAG program in which a "Hub" of clinical staff supports "Spokes"-community members with and without aphasia-to facilitate high-quality CAGs. A pilot, mixed-methods study confirmed the feasibility and acceptability of this model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This nested qualitative study explored program acceptability from the persp

Aging in the community: Factors associated with home adaptations and receipt of informal care, home care, and community support services among older Canadians.

BACKGROUND: Most older Canadians would prefer to stay in their own homes and communities rather than move to long-term care (LTC) facilities. A growing older population, limited LTC capacity, and costs have increased demand for initiatives that enable people to age in their communities for as long as possible. METHODS: Data from the 2019/2020 Canadian Health Survey on Seniors were used to estimate the prevalence of four types of supports and services (SSs) that assist with living in the community: home adaptations, informal care, home care, and community support services. Separate multivariab

Detection of nephrotoxic drugs and dose adjustment in patients with low glomerular filtration rate in community pharmacy: A multicenter study in Spanish community pharmacies.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) represents a significant global health burden, with its prevalence markedly increasing in the elderly. This multicenter, non-controlled, prospective study was conducted in 16 Spanish community pharmacies to assess the feasibility of identifying potentially inappropriate prescriptions (PIPs) in patients with reduced estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Patients over 60 years old with a body mass index between 19 and 35 kg/m2, who were taking at least one nephrotoxic medication or a drug requiring dose adjustment based on renal function, were recruited. A poi

Coproducing justice in public involvement: impact-led iterative development of a dance based community engagement project building relationships in marginalised communities.

BACKGROUND: Public involvement must include people from diverse backgrounds, or it risks exacerbating health inequalities in prioritising the needs of the majority culture. Public involvement as a process tends to exclude people by being tailored to fit the norms of the dominant culture; therefore simply removing barriers to participation is unlikely to be effective as is the case in other areas of science engagement. Rather it is necessary to go beyond redistributive justice (fair distribution of resources, opportunities, and benefits within health research) towards relational justice (develo

Posterior communicating and anterior communicating arteries on pre-thrombectomy computed tomography scans are associated with good outcomes irrespective of leptomeningeal collateral status.

BACKGROUND: Collateral blood flow is known to be an important factor that sustains the penumbra during acute stroke. We looked at both the leptomeningeal collateral circulation and the presence of anterior and posterior communicating arteries to determine the factors associated with good outcomes and mortality. METHODS: We included all patients with acute ischaemic stroke in the anterior circulation, who underwent thrombectomy with the same thrombectomy device from 2013 to 2016. We assessed the leptomeningeal circulation by the Tan, Miteff and Maas validated scoring systems on pre-treatment c

Community-based biological control of malaria mosquitoes using Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis (Bti) in Rwanda: community awareness, acceptance and participation.

BACKGROUND: Targeting the aquatic stages of malaria vectors via larval source management (LSM) in collaboration with local communities could accelerate progress towards malaria elimination when deployed in addition to existing vector control strategies. However, the precise role that communities can assume in implementing such an intervention has not been fully investigated. This study investigated community awareness, acceptance and participation in a study that incorporated the socio-economic and entomological impact of LSM using Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis (Bti) in eastern Rwand

The Community Navigator Study: a feasibility randomised controlled trial of an intervention to increase community connections and reduce loneliness for people with complex anxiety or depression.

BACKGROUND: Loneliness is associated with poor health outcomes at all ages, including shorter life expectancy and greater risk of developing depression. People with mental health problems are particularly vulnerable to loneliness and, for those with anxiety or depression, loneliness is associated with poorer outcomes. Interventions which support people to utilise existing networks and access new social contact are advocated in policy but there is little evidence regarding their effectiveness. People with mental health problems have potential to benefit from interventions to reduce loneliness,
