Type of postmenopausal hormone use and risk of breast cancer: 12-year follow-up from the Nurses' Health Study.

We prospectively examined the use of hormone replacement therapy in relation to breast cancer incidence in a cohort of women 30 to 55 years of age in 1976. During 12 years of follow-up (480,665 person-years) among postmenopausal women, 1,050 incident cases of breast cancer were documented. Overall, past users of replacement estrogen were not at increased risk. After adjustment for established risk factors, type of menopause, age at menopause, and current age, the rate ratio (RR) was 0.91, 95 percent confidence interval (CI) = 0.78-1.07. The risk of breast cancer was elevated significantly amon

A comparison of the predictions made by orthopaedic surgeons, nurses and physiotherapists about the rehabilitation problems of fracture patients.

Health service staff sometimes are not aware of the psychological and social aspects of patients' rehabilitation problems. This paper compares the accuracy of predictions made by orthopaedic surgeons, nurses and physiotherapists about the rehabilitation problems of a series of fracture patients. Predictions were obtained in the acute orthopaedic trauma wards of one hospital, from members of all three professions, about 26 patients selected as likely to have rehabilitation problems. Follow-up data were obtained from interviews with the patients during the six months after their injury and from

The effect of transformational leadership on nurses' turnover intention: the mediating effects of person-organization fit and career calling.

AIMS: This study aims to explore the relationship between transformational leadership, person-organization fit, career calling, and turnover intention among nurses. Additionally, it investigates whether person-organization fit and career calling serve as independent and chain mediators in the link between transformational leadership and turnover intention. METHODS: The researchers selected a convenience sample of 1,342 nurses from four Grade A-III hospitals in Shandong Province between October and November 2025. They collected data using several instruments: the General Population Questionnai

Effect of Virtual Reality Relaxation on Alarm Fatigue and Professional Quality of Life Among Nurses in Intensive Care Units.

INTRODUCTION: Intensive care unit nurses are faced with a large number of equipment alarms daily, which can increase the likelihood of errors and threaten their professional quality of life. Today, the use of virtual reality to create relaxing experiences in stressful environments has received attention. This study aimed to determine the effect of virtual reality relaxation on alarm fatigue and the professional quality of life among ICU nurses. METHODS: This is an intervention study with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. ICU nurses who met the inclusion criteria were selected co

The Contribution of Yoga to Enhancing Resilience and Coping With Stress Among Nurses in Israel During a War Conflict.

BACKGROUND: Nurses working under armed conflict face heightened psychological stress that may undermine well-being and resilience. Mind-body practices such as yoga have been identified as promising strategies for enhancing emotional regulation and adaptive coping; however, evidence on their contribution to nurses' resilience during wartime or emergency conditions remains limited. METHODS: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted among 105 hospital nurses in Israel during an active armed conflict. Participants completed validated questionnaires assessing personal resilience (CD-RISC-

Generative AI Needs a Pilot: Positioning Advanced Practice Nurses as the "Human-in-the-Loop" for Primary Care Safety.

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is increasingly integrated into primary care, supporting documentation, clinical summaries, and patient-facing communication. While its potential to reduce cognitive workload is widely recognized, GenAI introduces a safety paradox: as outputs become more fluent, inaccuracies such as hallucinations and omissions may become harder to detect. This creates a largely unrecognized burden in routine care, referred to as the "verification tax," which risks redistributing rather than alleviating clinician workload. A central question is not whether GenAI is su

Pressure Ulcer Prevention Practice and its Associated Factors Among Nurses Working in Hospitals: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: A pressure ulcer, or bedsore, is an area of skin injury appearing after a prolonged period of insufficient or non-existing blood flow. It causes a significant burden in resource-limited countries like Ethiopia, increasing morbidity, hospitalizations, and healthcare costs. Practice levels and influencing factors nationally remain unclear due to inconsistent regional studies. OBJECTIVE: The primary objective of this study was to determine the pooled national prevalence of good pressure ulcer prevention practice among nurses and the secondary objective was to identify factors associa

The role of digital literacy and ethical awareness in nurses' acceptance of Artificial Intelligence: a cross-sectional questionnaire survey.

BACKGROUND: The integration of artificial intelligence into healthcare is rapidly transforming clinical practice. Nurses' acceptance of artificial intelligence is influenced by their digital literacy and ethical awareness, yet empirical evidence examining these interrelationships is limited. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to examine the direct and indirect effects of digital literacy on nurses' acceptance of artificial intelligence, with ethical awareness of artificial intelligence serving as a mediating factor. METHODS: A cross-sectional, correlational design was conducted among 350 nurses working in
