Biological Age Is Associated with the Active Use of Nutrition Data.

Purpose Biological age (BA) has recently emerged as a substitute for chronological age (CA), and many subjects seek to optimally control their BA. However, in South Korea, no study has adequately explored factors that affect BA, although individual health management is essential to preventing chronic diseases. In the present study, we focus on the use of health information, in particular nutrition facts, to control BA. Methods We used data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (2010⁻2015; 26,914 eligible participants) using BA and age differences as outcome variables

Relationship between Alzheimer disease-like pattern of 18F-FDG and fasting plasma glucose levels in cognitively normal volunteers.

UNLABELLED: Increased plasma glucose (PG) levels can alter the cerebral distribution pattern of (18)F-FDG uptake and reduce (18)F-FDG uptake, especially in the precuneus. The (18)F-FDG distribution pattern in cognitively normal subjects is described as an Alzheimer disease (AD)-like pattern. The aim of this study was to determine the fasting PG levels that can reduce (18)F-FDG uptake in the precuneus. METHODS: Fifty-one cognitively normal volunteers (mean age ± SD, 69.7 ± 5.9 y) underwent (18)F-FDG PET scanning and were divided into 2 groups according to the level of fasting PG at the time of

Yoga Is as Good as Stretching-Strengthening Exercises in Improving Functional Fitness Outcomes: Results From a Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Despite yoga's popularity, few clinical trials have employed rigorous methodology to systematically explore its functional benefits compared with more established forms of exercise. The objective of this study was to compare the functional benefits of yoga with the conventional stretching-strengthening exercises recommended for adults. METHODS: Sedentary healthy adults (N = 118; M age = 62.0) participated in an 8-week (three times a week for 1 hour) randomized controlled trial, which consisted of a Hatha yoga group (n = 61) and a stretching-strengthening exercise group (n = 57). Resting-State EEG Microstates as Dynamic Biomarkers of Network Dysfunction and Cognitive Impairment in Patients With Multiple Sclerosis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is characterized by large-scale brain network dysfunctions. EEG microstate analysis may track these dynamics. We investigated whether microstates could distinguish patients with MS from healthy volunteers, and cognitively impaired from cognitively preserved (CP) patients. METHODS: For this cross-sectional observational study, we recruited participants from the Policlinico Umberto I Multiple Sclerosis Center (Rome). We compared microstates of patients with relapsing-remitting MS (Expanded Disability Status Scale [EDSS] score <3, no relapses wi

Healthy lifestyle as a protective factor against the risk of gastroesophageal reflux disease: Prospective population cohort analysis.

BACKGROUND: Lifestyle modifications are recommended by American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) for managing gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a significant health issue; but evidence is scarce. This study aims to investigate the longitudinal association between healthy lifestyle behaviors and the risk of GERD. METHODS: We analyzed data from 306,543 participants aged between 38 and 73 years without GERD at baseline from the UK Biobank. A summarized healthy lifestyle score (range, 0-7) was calculated using seven items: never smoking, healthy sleep, moderate body mass index (BMI), r

Telehealth-Delivered Dietary Counseling in Myeloproliferative Neoplasms: A Randomized Feasibility Study.

Background/Objectives: Patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) experience chronic inflammation, elevated cardiovascular risk, and substantial symptom burden. Dietary patterns with anti-inflammatory and cardioprotective effects may represent a modifiable strategy to address these overlapping risks, yet dietary intervention has not been systematically studied in MPN. We evaluated the feasibility, engagement, and preliminary clinical signals of a fully remote dietary counseling intervention in adults with MPN. Methods: In this single-center, randomized, open-label pilot study, 28 adults

Supplementation with mixed nuts does not improve inflammatory biomarkers or dietary inflammatory potential in post-myocardial infarction: a secondary analysis of the DICA-NUTS trial.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Systemic inflammation is an independent predictor of cardiovascular events, and nut-enriched diets are often recommended after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). However, the effects of mixed nuts on inflammatory biomarkers in secondary prevention remain unclear. This study evaluated the impact of incorporating mixed nuts into the Brazilian Cardioprotective Diet (DICA Br) on systemic inflammation and dietary inflammatory potential in post-AMI patients. METHODS AND RESULTS: This secondary analysis of the DICA-NUTS randomized controlled trial included 170 adults post-AMI, a

Who bears the responsibility? Perceptions of responsibility for eating healthily and sustainably in a representative German sample.

OBJECTIVE: Public support for nutrition policies depends on beliefs about responsibility for dietary behaviour. We explored how perceptions of responsibility for healthy and sustainable eating relate to policy acceptability in a representative German sample. METHODS: Cross-sectional survey data were collected online (December 2023-January 2024). Participants rated the responsibility of the state, individuals, cafeterias, food industry, and parents for healthy and sustainable eating among adults and children, and the acceptability of nutrition policies. K-means cluster analyses identified patt

Association between healthy lifestyle score and risk of multiple myeloma: a case-control study.

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a type of blood cancer that has both genetic and environmental causes. However, there is limited information available on how lifestyle factors affect MM risk. The current study looked at the relationship between a Healthy Lifestyle Score (HLS) and MM risk in Iranian adults. This is a hospital case-control-based study from Aug 2020 to March 2024, where 149 patients were newly diagnosed with MM and 359 hospital-based controls without MM. The four components of HLS (0–4) were related to diet, physical activity, BMI, and smoking. The HLS distribution among the control gro

Association Between cMIND Diet and Depressive Symptoms Among Chinese Older Adults: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background: With accelerated population aging, depressive symptoms in later life have become a major public health issue. The Chinese version of the MIND (cMIND) diet is a neuroprotective dietary pattern adapted to Chinese dietary habits. Previous studies have found that adherence to the cMIND diet is associated with lower levels of depressive symptoms, but the underlying statistical association patterns remain unclear. This study adopted a statistical moderated mediation framework to characterize cross-sectional associations, to examine the direct association between cMIND diet adherence and

Impact of healthy and sustainable diets on the mortality burden from cardiometabolic diseases and colorectal cancer in Mexican adults: a modeling study.

BACKGROUND: Healthy and sustainable diets (HSDs) have been associated with reduced mortality from chronic diseases, particularly in high-income countries. However, evidence from Mexico is limited, and no study has assessed the potential impact on mortality of adopting different HSD scenarios. This study aimed to assess the impact of various HSD scenarios on the mortality burden from cardiometabolic diseases and colorectal cancer (CRC) in Mexican adults. METHODS: Using a comparative risk assessment model, we examined six HSD scenarios: Mexican Healthy and Sustainable Dietary Guidelines 2023 (MH

Ultraprocessed or minimally processed diets following healthy dietary guidelines on weight and cardiometabolic health: a randomized, crossover trial.

Ultraprocessed food (UPF) consumption is associated with noncommunicable disease risk, yet no trial has assessed its health impact within the context of national dietary guidelines. In a 2 × 2 crossover randomized controlled feeding trial, 55 adults in England (body mass index ≥25 to <40 kg m-2, habitual UPF intake ≥50% kcal day-1) were provided with two 8-week ad libitum diets following the UK Eatwell Guide: (1) minimally processed food (MPF) and (2) UPF, in a random order. Twenty-eight people were randomized to MPF then UPF, and 27 to UPF then MPF; 50 participants comprised the intention-to-

Population Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics Modeling for the Use of Recaticimab in Healthy Volunteers and Patients with Hypercholesterolemia.

INTRODUCTION: Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) is a protein secreted by the liver that binds to low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptors, which leads to a decreased ability of the liver to clear LDL-C from circulation. By inhibiting PCSK9, it is possible to provide early intervention to achieve clinical benefits. METHODS: The database was built using data derived from seven clinical studies, population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PopPK/PD) and PK/PD analyses were conducted via nonlinear mixed effects analysis with NONMEM software. The parameter estimation of the model

Venous capacitance and venous return in young adults with typical vasovagal syncope: a cross-sectional study.

Vasovagal syncope (VVS) has a high prevalence in the general population and is associated with potential complications. There is limited information on the possible association between venous capacitance (VC) and venous return (VR), important determinants of preload and VVS. Since the tilt test was reported to yield a high rate of false positive results, the aim of this study was to evaluate whether abnormal VC and VR at baseline could predispose individuals to VVS.To this end, 88 young, healthy volunteers were recruited and classified to 26 (29.5%) who experienced typical VVS and 62 (70.5%) w
