Mental Well-Being and Regular Sauna Bathing: A Phenomenological Study of Psychological Experiences and Perceived Impact.

Sauna bathing, a centuries-old tradition with roots in Nordic cultures, is increasingly embraced in contemporary wellness practices across Western societies. Although the physiological benefits of sauna use are well documented, its psychological effects remain underexplored. The present study investigated the lived experiences of regular sauna users and their perceptions of its impact on mental well-being. A mixed-methods approach was employed: a preliminary survey identified suitable participants, followed by in-depth semi-structured interviews with 11 regular users of Finnish-style saunas (a

Differentiating fenbendazole-induced liver injury from immunotherapy hepatitis - the importance of structured causality assessment: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Drug-induced liver injury poses a diagnostic challenge in oncology patients, especially those on immune checkpoint inhibitors, because symptoms often overlap with immune-mediated hepatitis. The increasing use of social media has led people to self-administer veterinary anthelmintics like fenbendazole for cancer, often at high doses and without medical guidance, despite limited data on safety or effectiveness. CASE SUMMARY: We report a case of a 47-year-old woman with metastatic colon cancer on nivolumab/relatlimab who developed severe hepatocellular liver injury after increasing h

Data sonification offers a novel approach for communicating Earth's tipping points.

Rapid social-ecological change has placed Planet Earth on a trajectory characterized by regime shifts that can inflict substantial costs on economies and human well-being. Current attempts to communicate these changes and their consequences have often failed to resonate; hence, more effective approaches are needed to increase public awareness of these potentially catastrophic events. This paper explores data sonification, a tool that transforms data into sound, as a means of conveying ecological regime shifts through music. In this study, prior assessments of a 7000-year paleo-sequence of diat

Quality of Life and Healthcare Experiences of Patients with Anal Cancer: A Mixed-Methods Study.

Anal cancer is a rare and under-researched malignancy, leading to limited understanding of patients' experiences and potentially insufficiently tailored care. This study explored the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and healthcare interactions of people with anal cancer. Patients with confirmed diagnosis took part in semi-structured interviews, supplemented by two European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) HRQoL questionnaires. Data were analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis and organized into themes. Twenty-one patients (71% female; mean age of

Compounding, not adding: a layered framework for why maternal health programs gain coverage without saving lives.

For 30 years, investment in maternal health has delivered rising coverage: more antenatal visits, more skilled attendance, and more births inside facilities. However, survival has not kept pace. Each of the two frameworks that dominate the field explains one half of this issue. The Three Delays Model identifies where along the path to care a woman dies; the social determinants tradition explains why those delays fall where they do. There is no framework that connects the two. This Perspective sets out a framework that does, which I call the Compounding Vulnerability Framework. It is conceptual

Sex disparities in psychosocial distress among medical students with indirect exposure to the 2023 Kahramanmaras earthquakes.

BACKGROUND: The psychological impact of disasters extends beyond directly exposed populations to those indirectly affected through close social networks. OBJECTIVE: This study investigates sex-based disparities in psychosocial distress among a cohort remotely exposed to a major earthquake. METHODS: Approximately 3 months after the 2023 Kahramanmaras earthquakes, 129 Turkish medical students with indirect exposure (e.g. via affected relatives or

Riding with care: A review of factors that influence the welfare of the ridden horse and a case for the application of the precautionary principle in equestrian pursuits.

Equestrian sport's social license to operate has come under scrutiny due to concerns surrounding the well-being of ridden horses. Inappropriate equipment use, such as harsh bits or overtight nosebands, can negatively influence well-being by generating inescapable pressure or pain on the sensitive structures of the horse's head and limiting natural behaviours. Restrictive equipment may also be used to generate exaggerated, stressful and uncomfortable head and neck positions such as hyperflexion. Saddles must be properly fitted to both horse and rider to ensure appropriate distribution of kinema

Beyond pharmacotherapy: a narrative review of patient, social, and healthcare system factors influencing treatment adherence in ankylosing spondylitis.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory rheumatic disease characterized by inflammatory low back pain, new bone formation, and progressive ossification of the axial skeleton. Over time, it causes irreversible structural damage to the spine and sacroiliac joints, profoundly impairing patients' quality of life and physical function. Without timely and effective intervention, AS can lead to permanent functional disability. Evidence suggests that biological, psychological, and social factors jointly undermine treatment adherence, with complex interactions among these dimensions that
