Anatomic Feasibility of 4-Legged Staples for Naviculocuneiform Arthrodesis.

BACKGROUND: Naviculocuneiform (NC) arthrodesis is indicated for multiple pathologies, including degenerative and traumatic arthritis, progressive collapsing foot deformity, and medial column instability. Despite its broad application, no consensus exists regarding the optimal fixation construct. Shape-memory dynamic compression staples offer potential advantages in midfoot fusion compared to static fixation. PURPOSE: To evaluate the feasibility of using 4-legged dynamic compression staples for NC arthrodesis and to characterize NC joint anatomy to guide implant selection and orientation. STU

Guided Implant Surgery in Oral Cancer Patients: Initial Clinical Experience from an Academic Point-of-Care Manufacturing Unit.

Background and Objectives: Implant-supported rehabilitation after oral cancer surgery remains technically and biologically demanding due to altered anatomy, scar tissue, and prior radiotherapy. Digital workflows and hospital-based point-of-care (POC) manufacturing now enable personalized, prosthetically driven implant placement with static surgical guides fabricated within the clinical environment. This study reports the initial clinical experience of an academic POC manufacturing unit (UPAM3D) implementing static guided implant surgery in oral cancer patients and compares this approach with c

Anatomically constrained and curated cerebellar tractography (ACCURAT): an open framework and a pathway-specific neuroanatomical reference.

Cerebellar pathways form extensive structural circuits linking the cerebellum with the brainstem, thalamus, and cerebrum, underlying motor, cognitive, and affective functions. Diffusion MRI tractography provides the only non-invasive method for mapping these pathways in vivo, but reconstruction of cerebellar connectivity remains challenging due to crossing fibers, peduncular bottlenecks, decussations, multi-synaptic circuits, and numerous small nuclei that define pathway origins and terminations. Here we introduce Anatomically Constrained and CURAted Tractography (ACCURAT), an open framework f

SDFStent: Real-time interactive virtual stenting via SDF deformation fields.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Stenting is among the most common transcatheter interventions for congenital heart disease (CHD). Patient-specific computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations can predict hemodynamic outcomes of intervention scenarios but require post-operative vascular geometries that reflect stent-induced shape changes, which existing tools either model inadequately or require extensive time or manual effort to generate. We present SDFStent, a signed distance function (SDF) based mesh deformation method for virtual stenting that operates in real time, maintains mesh integrity, an

Long-Term Survival following TEVAR for Blunt Thoracic Aortic Injury.

BACKGROUND: Blunt thoracic aortic injury (BTAI) is a leading cause of death in blunt chest trauma. Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) has emerged as the preferred treatment, offering reduced morbidity and improved survival compared with open repair. This study evaluates long-term outcomes of TEVAR for BTAI at a single Canadian center. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 46 patients with BTAI treated with TEVAR at McGill University from 2002 to 2025. Data collected included demographics, associated injuries, Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) grade, aortic zone, procedural details, a

Added Value of Thin-Section Coronal DWI for Lesion Visualization in Acute Brainstem Infarction: A Retrospective Analysis.

Background and Objectives: Brainstem infarctions remain challenging to identify due to their small size, complex anatomy, and known limitations of conventional axial diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), particularly in the posterior fossa. Thin-section coronal DWI may improve lesion conspicuity by providing higher spatial resolution and an orthogonal imaging perspective. To evaluate whether 3 mm thin-section coronal DWI improves lesion visualization and delineation compared with standard 4 mm axial DWI in patients with MRI-confirmed acute brainstem infarction. Materials and Methods: In this retro

Pacemaker therapy through a sex-specific lens: a narrative review of clinical and procedural disparities.

Pacemaker therapy is a cornerstone in the management of bradyarrhythmias, yet accumulating data highlight important sex-based disparities across indications, procedural care and long-term outcomes. Women are consistently under-represented among pacemaker recipients, tend to be older at implantation, and are more frequently admitted via emergency pathways despite substantial symptom burden from sinus node dysfunction. Men more often receive pacemakers for atrioventricular conduction disease, at younger ages and with greater cumulative exposure to long-term pacing and device-related procedures.

Hemodynamic analysis of optimal branch selection for flow-diverting stents in middle cerebral artery bifurcation aneurysms: a pilot study.

BACKGROUND: Despite the expanding use of flow-diverting stents (flow diverters-FDs) for middle cerebral artery (MCA) bifurcation aneurysms, their efficacy remains contentious in this complex anatomy. Current studies report conflicting complete occlusion rates (55-92%) and significant branch stenosis/occlusion risks (8-43%), highlighting unmet needs in stent placement strategy. METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study combining clinical data with computational fluid dynamics (CFD), 20 MCA bifurcation aneurysms (19 patients) treated with FDs were analyzed. Patient-specific models derived fro

Allergic rhinitis is the strongest independent predictor of obstructive sleep apnea severity in preschool children.

OBJECTIVE: It is known that both adenoid hypertrophy (AH) and allergic rhinitis (AR) can cause obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), but their relative importance, especially when tonsil size is considered, remains unclear. This study aimed to compare the independent contributions of AR, AH, and tonsil hypertrophy to OSA severity and to determine the primary contributing factor. METHOD: A total of 177 children aged 3 to 6 were included in the study. They were divided into four groups based on adenoid size (nasal endoscopic obstruction ≥ 75%) and AR (serum total IgE, inhalant-specific IgE, or clinica

The Significance of Ductal Tortuosity in Late Gestation Fetuses with Normal Hearts: Is There a Relation to Ductal Flow Changes or Right Ventricular Functional Findings?

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to investigate whether tortuous ductus arteriosus (DA) is associated with changes in ductal Doppler flow or right ventricular (RV) functional findings in late gestation, structurally normal heart fetuses. STUDY DESIGN: Fetuses ≥ 32 weeks' gestation with tortuous DA from January 2016 to November 2023 were evaluated. Using the narrowest ductal angle and number of ductal bends, DA tortuosity grade was assigned as mild (one bend, ≥ 90 degrees), moderate (one bend, < 90 degrees), and severe (≥2 bends). DA flow included peak systolic flow velocity (PSV) and
