Prevalence of Gingivitis among Children of Urban and Rural Areas of Bhopal District, India.

BACKGROUND: Gingivitis is inflammation of the soft tissue without apical migration of the junctional epithelium. Redness, oedema and bleeding on probing characterize this condition. Untreated cases may lead to a more complex and destructive entity known as chronic periodontitis. Periodontitis are the main cause of tooth loss. Poor oral health has thus the potential of hampering the quality of life. So the aim of this study was to find the prevalence of gingivitis, among school-going children of urban and rural areas of Bhopal district, India. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present descriptive, cr

Self-reported health in high and very high incomes.

The objective of the present study was to investigate whether self-reported health (SRH), an overall health indicator, continues to improve as individual income increases to very high levels or whether there is a threshold above which this relationship changes direction. We used data from the 2003 US Current Population Survey, focusing on the upper income decile. We modelled the relationship between income and SRH before and after adjustment for other socio-demographic parameters that are known to influence SRH. In the unadjusted model, SRH increased with increasing income up to the threshold

Factors influencing permanent teeth eruption. Part one--general factors.

Variation in the normal eruption of teeth is a common finding, but significant deviation from established norms should alert the clinician to take some diagnostic procedures in order to evaluate patient health and development. Disturbance in tooth eruption time could be a symptom of general condition or indication of altered physiology and craniofacial development. The aim of this review is to analyze general factors that could influence permanent teeth eruption. The articles from 1965 to 2009 in English related to topic were identified. 84 articles were selected for data collection. Although

[RISK FACTORS FOR TUBERCULOSIS IN REPRODUCTIVE-AGED WOMEN].

The sociohygienic risk factors of tuberculosis were assessed in 253 reproductive-aged women from Izhevsk to develop social and medical prophylactic measures. There is evidence that living conditions, income and education levels, nutrition quality, marital and employment status are of particular importance among the social risk factors of tuberculosis. The low levels of medical activity and hygienic literacy, poor awareness of prophylactic measures against tuberculosis largely favors the untimely detection and spread of tuberculosis infection among the population, including women of reproductiv

Progress toward global dracunculiasis eradication, June 2002.

In 1986, when the World Health Assembly first adopted a resolution calling for the eradication of dracunculiasis (Guinea worm disease), an estimated 3.5 million persons in 20 countries had the disease, and approximately 120 million persons were at risk for infection. By December 2001, annual incidence of dracunculiasis had decreased approximately 98%, and seven countries (Cameroon, Chad, India, Kenya, Pakistan, Senegal, and Yemen) in which dracunculiasis had been endemic previously had eliminated the disease. This report describes the status of the global Dracunculiasis Eradication Program (DE

Women's position and family planning in Egypt.

In this report, data from the 1988 Egypt Demographic and Health Survey are used to address some of the most frequently raised questions about the relationship between gender inequality and reproductive behavior. The findings from binomial and multinomial logit models show that while the relationship between women's position and fertility control in Egypt is complex, some clear, broad patterns exist that have important theoretical and policy implications. First, although women's status in Egypt is clearly multidimensional, the reproductive aspect of women's position has a strong connection with

A study of the self-perception of being overweight in adult inhabitants of Cracow.

The self-assessment of body weight (normal vs overweight) reported in an interview in a group of 783 men and 1085 women aged 32-83, was compared with weight and height measurements taken a few days after the interview. Among subjects with body mass indices revealing excess weight (over 27 kg/m2 in men and 45 kg/m in women), 24% of men and 15% of women reported having normal body weight. The proportion of overweight persons unaware of their condition was related to age, smoking habit, education and physical activity. In men with hypertension, the proportion of subjects unaware of being overweig
