Effectiveness of enhanced cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT-E) in the treatment of anorexia nervosa: a prospective multidisciplinary study.

BACKGROUND: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a debilitating psychiatric disorder associated with a wide array of negative health complications and psychiatric comorbidity. Existing evidence for AN treatment in adults is weak, and no empirically supported treatment has been reliably established. The primary objective of this study is to gain knowledge about the effectiveness of enhanced cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT-E) for anorexia nervosa delivered in a public hospital setting. Baseline predictors of treatment outcome and dropout are studied. Furthermore, there will be collected blood and stool sa

Alcohol use and HIV pharmacotherapy.

Alcohol consumption by individuals infected with HIV is an important medical management issue with significant implications for the effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy as well as an important evolving field of HIV research. Alcohol consumption is a risk factor for poor medication adherence and can modify liver drug metabolism, both of which can lead to the emergence of drug-resistant virus. Research indicates that alcohol consumption greater than 50 g/day (four or five drinks) is a risk factor for liver disease progression among patients with HIV/HCV coinfection. In addition, alcohol-induc

Pharmacogenes Associated with Suicidal Behavior: Addressing a Potential Therapeutic Window.

Suicide rates in Mexico have been rising, and because suicidal behavior has a genetic component, several pharmacogenes potentially linked with suicide risk have been investigated. This review aims to summarize articles addressing pharmacogenes, their relationship with suicidal behavior phenotypes, and their role in pharmacological treatment response. Among the identified pharmacogenes, variants in genes such as ATP-binding cassette subfamily B member 1 Gene (ABCB1) and FKBP Prolyl Isomerase 5 Gene (FKBP5) have been repeatedly observed across suicide attempt and completed suicide phenotypes. Zika Virus Inoculation During Pregnancy Impaired Maternal Care and Altered Prolactin and Corticosterone Levels in Rats.

Zika virus (ZIKV) is an Orthoflavivirus known for its teratogenicity and for causing congenital Zika syndrome (CZS) in the offspring, but recent studies suggest a negative impact on maternal brain health and behavior following gestational ZIKV inoculation. This behavior, crucial for the offspring's neurodevelopment, is regulated by the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and prolactin. This study investigated the effect of gestational ZIKV inoculation on maternal care in Wistar rats and its relationship with prolactin and corticosterone levels. Fifty-six females were inoculated intraperi

Symptoms of Oppositional Behavior In autistic Adolescents and Adolescents Who Have Lost the Autism diagnosis.

This study compared self- and parent-reported symptoms of oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) in autistic adolescents (n = 34), adolescents who have a history of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) but no longer display symptoms (“loss of autism diagnosis,” LAD; n = 29), and neurotypical (NT; n = 35) adolescents. Participants and their parents completed questionnaires measuring ODD symptomology as part of a larger research study. All participants had age-appropriate cognitive and language abilities, with no group differences. The LAD group had significantly fewer self-reported ODD symptoms compared

Anxiety and depression in relation to anxious driving and driver behaviors: the moderating role of traffic climate.

This study aims to explore for the first time how anxiety and depression as mental health indicators, and traffic climate are related to driver behaviors and anxious driving. In more detail, based on the importance of understanding the interplay between psychopathology and perceptions within the dynamic traffic context, this research examines the moderating role of the traffic climate on the relationship between mental health and aberrant or anxious driving. A total of 247 drivers actively driving in Turkey participated in this study. The participants were recruited to complete various measure

Impaired sexual delay discounting as a potential mechanism in women's compulsive sexual behavior: Evidence from a mixed-gender experiment.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Scientific evidence for underpinning mechanisms of Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (CSBD) is still scarce. This study explores impaired sexual delay discounting in compulsive sexual behavior (CSB) and its relationship with sexual sensation seeking (SSS) and borderline personality disorder (BPD) features in a general population sample. METHODS: Data were collected via an online survey in a German convenience sample. Participants (n = 311; 71.3% women, 27.3% men, 1.6% gender-diverse individuals) completed the Sexual Delay Discounting Task (SDT), Compulsive Sexual Behavi

An examination of the effects of eye-tracking on behavior in psychology experiments.

Eye-tracking is emerging as a tool for researchers to better understand cognition and behavior. However, it is possible that experiment participants adjust their behavior when they know their eyes are being tracked. This potential change would be considered a type of Hawthorne effect, in which participants alter their behavior in response to being watched and could potentially compromise the outcomes and conclusions of experimental studies that use eye tracking. We examined whether eye-tracking produced Hawthorne effects in six commonly used psychological scales and five behavioral tasks. The

Recalled parental rearing behavior shapes mental health after preterm birth: Evidence from the Gutenberg Prematurity Study.

Associations of preterm birth with later-life mental distress are well-established. A research gap concerns the role of psychosocial factors such as the family context. This study investigated associations of recalled parental rearing behavior with both preterm birth characteristics and psychological symptom burden later in life. Based on birth registry data of the Mainz University Hospital in Germany (infants born between 1969 and 2002) and using a selection algorithm, a cohort study comprising four gestational age (GA) strata was conducted (≥ 37 weeks: n = 138; 33-36 weeks: n = 132; 29-32 we

Developmental Process of a Pronounced Laterality in the Scale-eating Cichlid Fish Perissodus microlepis in Lake Tanganyika.

Lateral preference in behaviors has been widely documented in many vertebrates and invertebrates. Such preferences are strange, puzzling, and on the surface, not adaptive. However, behavioral laterality may increase an individual's fitness as well as foraging accuracy and speed. There is little experimental evidence regarding the developmental process of laterality, and unsolved questions have perplexed researchers for several decades. Related to these issues, here, I review that the scale-eating cichlid Perissodus microlepis found in Lake Tanganyika is a valuable model to address the developm

Developmental pathways from preschool temper tantrums to later psychopathology.

Temper tantrums are sudden, overt negative emotional displays that are disproportionate to the eliciting event. Research supports that severe temper tantrums during the preschool period are associated with preschool psychopathology, but few studies have identified which characteristics of preschool tantrums are predictive of distal psychopathological outcomes in later childhood and adolescence. To examine this question, we used a prospective, longitudinal dataset enriched for early psychopathology. Participants (N = 299) included 3-to 6-year-old children (47.8% female) assessed for tantrums an

Measuring sustainable consumer food purchasing and behavior.

Consumer food purchasing and willingness to adopt a sustainable healthy diet (SHD) is a key factor affecting the sustainability of the entire food system. Studies have developed scales to measure consumer preferences for particular consumption patterns, while others have sought to empirically define the multiple dimensions of a sustainable food system (environmental, social, economic, etc.). This paper builds on these literatures by tracking consumers' SHD behaviors using a large-scale, longitudinal survey of adults in the United States and mapping them onto multiple systems-level indicators.

Daily reciprocal relations between emotion dysregulation and non-suicidal self-injury among individuals with a history of sexual assault: The influence of posttraumatic stress symptoms.

INTRODUCTION: Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a serious public health concern that can be understood within an emotion dysregulation framework. The current study adds to the literature by utilizing a micro-longitudinal design and novel statistical modeling to test reciprocal associations between emotion dysregulation and NSSI, as well as the potential moderating effect of posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS). METHODS: Participants were 81 individuals with a history of sexual assault and NSSI (Mage  = 33.80; 67.9% women; 80.2% white) recruited from the community who self-reported on symptom

Food Insecurity and Suicidal Behaviors Among US High School Students.

BACKGROUND: Food insecurity (FI) rates in the United States are particularly high among households with children. This research set aims to analyze if high school students experiencing FI had higher risk for mental health and suicidal behaviors. METHODS: Using combined data from 11 states that conducted the 2017 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, a total of 26,962 and 24,051 high school students were used to estimate race/ethnicity and sex-stratified prevalence ratios (PRs) from Poisson regression models. A single-question was used to measure the exposure of FI and outcomes of mental health and suic

Modulating eating behavior with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS): A systematic literature review on the impact of eating behavior traits.

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is becoming an increasingly popular technique for altering eating behaviors. Recent research suggests a possible eating behavior trait-dependent effect of tDCS. However, studies recruit participant populations with heterogeneous trait characteristics, including "Работает" individuals who do not present with eating behavior traits suggesting susceptibility to overconsumption. The present review considers the effects of tDCS across eating-related measures and explores whether a trait-dependent effect is evident across the literature. A literature sea

How social stressors at work influence marital behaviors at home: An interpersonal model of work-family spillover.

Drawing on conservation of resources and related theories, this study develops and tests an interpersonal model of work-family spillover. Our model specifies how social stressors at work (i.e., workplace incivility, abusive supervision, interpersonal conflict) result in the experience of a social-based form of work-family conflict, ultimately influencing marital behaviors at home, on a daily basis. The mediating role of burnout and the moderating role of trust were also examined. A 2-week experience-sampling study with daily employee surveys at work and at home and with spousal ratings for emp
