Joint Association of Dietary Protein Intake and Eating Habits with the Risk of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus: A Case-Control Study.

Because the associations between different dietary protein sources and the risks of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are inconsistent, and those of eating habits with GDM have rarely been explored, we aimed to investigate the independent and joint association of major dietary protein sources and eating habits with GDM in a case-control study including 353 GDM cases and 718 controls in China. Dietary protein intake and eating habits prior to GDM diagnosis were collected through questionnaires at 24~28 gestational weeks. Multivariate logistic regression was used to evaluate the independent an

A Tale of Childhood Loss, Conditional Acceptance and a Fear of Abandonment: A Qualitative Study Taking a Narrative Approach to Eating Disorders.

Eating disorders (EDs) are serious mental health illnesses, yet there is a need to better understand the illness experience to improve treatment outcomes. Qualitative research, and narrative approaches in particular, can elicit life stories that allow for the whole illness journey to be explored. This study aimed to explore the experiences of women with a history of an ED, identifying the life events they perceived were relevant to the onset of their ED through to recovery. Interviews were conducted with 18 women with lived experience of an ED. Through structural narrative analysis, an overarc

The Family Caregiving Environment Associates with Adolescent Patients' Severity of Eating Disorder and Interpersonal Problems: A Cross-Sectional Study.

The quality of family interactions may be a critical factor for restrictive eating disorders (REDs). Adolescent patients with RED have interpersonal problems that can be inferred by observing their behaviours during family interactions. To date, the assessment of the association among RED severity, interpersonal problems, and patients' interactive behaviours in the family is partially explored. This cross-sectional study aimed to explore how adolescent patients' interactive behaviours observed during the Lausanne Trilogue Play-clinical version (LTPc) were associated with both RED severity and

Efficacy, safety, and tolerability of nivasorexant in adults with binge-eating disorder: A randomized, Phase II proof of concept trial.

OBJECTIVE: This Phase II, placebo-controlled, double-blind study investigated the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of nivasorexant in the treatment of adults with moderate to severe binge-eating disorder (BED). METHODS: Adults meeting the DSM-5 BED criteria were randomized 1:1 to placebo or nivasorexant (100 mg b.i.d.). The primary endpoint was the change from baseline to Week 12 in the number of binge eating (BE) days per week. Exploratory efficacy endpoints included cessation of BE in the last 4 weeks of treatment; and change from baseline to Week 12 in the number of BE episodes/week, the

The role of sexual assault history and PTSD in responses to food intake among women with bulimic-spectrum eating disorders.

Sexual abuse or assault (SA) history is associated with eating disorder severity and psychiatric comorbidity, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Beyond persistent alterations in mood and cognitions characterizing PTSD, PTSD due to SA may contribute to greater increases in negative affect and body image concerns following food intake in bulimic syndromes (BN-S). To test this, participants (n = 172) with BN-S who reported PTSD due to SA, PTSD due to other forms of trauma, or neither completed clinical interviews and momentary reports of negative affect and shape/weight preoccupatio

Exploring effectiveness of CBT in obese patients with binge eating disorder: personality functioning is associated with clinically significant change.

BACKGROUND: Binge eating disorder (BED), as the most prevalent eating disorder, is strongly related to obesity and other somatic and psychiatric morbidity. Despite evidence-based treatments a considerable number of BED patients fail to recover. There is preliminary evidence for the association between psychodynamic personality functioning and personality traits on treatment outcome. However, research is limited and results are still contradictory. Identifying variables associated with treatment outcome could improve treatment programs. The aim of the study was to explore whether personality fu

Epipharyngeal Abrasive Therapy (EAT) Reduces the mRNA Expression of Major Proinflammatory Cytokine IL-6 in Chronic Epipharyngitis.

The epipharynx, located behind the nasal cavity, is responsible for upper respiratory tract immunity; however, it is also the site of frequent acute and chronic inflammation. Previous reports have suggested that chronic epipharyngitis is involved not only in local symptoms such as cough and postnasal drip, but also in systemic inflammatory diseases such as IgA nephropathy and myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and Long COVID. Epipharyngeal Abrasive Therapy (EAT), which is an effective treatment for chronic epipharyngitis in Japan, is reported to be effective for these

A comparison of meal-related appetite, food reward and eating behaviour traits in people with and without spinal cord injury.

Persons with a spinal cord injury (SCI) are at a heightened risk of obesity. However, little is known about the effect of SCI on factors that influence energy intake. This study compared measures of food reward, eating behaviour traits, and appetite perceptions between adults with and without SCI. Twenty wheelchair dependent persons with chronic (>1 year) SCI (C1-T12) and twenty non-SCI individuals matched for BMI, age and sex participated. Following a familiarisation visit, participants consumed a breakfast meal, normalised for resting metabolic rate (RMR), and provided subjective appetite pe

The Effect of Time-Restricted Eating on Insulin Levels and Insulin Sensitivity in Patients with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome: A Systematic Review.

RESULTS: 2662 papers were identified with 37 selected for full-text review and one paper meeting criteria for inclusion. Ramadan fasting was the only time-restricted eating regimen trialled in this population with no strong evidence of a significant effect on insulin levels. CONCLUSION: As the systematic review retrieved only one study investigating time-restricted eating to reduce insulin in patients with PCOS, there is no evidence to suggest that this intervention is effective. From the narrative review, based on studies in other patient groups, time-restricted eating could improve insulin

The moderating role of sleep duration on momentary relations between negative affect and loss-of-control eating in children and adolescents.

OBJECTIVE: Loss-of-control (LOC) eating is associated with eating disorders and obesity, and thus it is imperative to understand its momentary risk factors in order to improve intervention efforts. Negative affect has been proposed as a momentary risk factor for LOC eating, but the evidence for its effects in children and adolescents is mixed. Short sleep duration (which is very common in youth), may be one variable that moderates the relation between negative affect and subsequent LOC eating. As such, we aimed to examine the moderating role of within-person sleep duration on the momentary rel

Prevalence and antimicrobial-resistant characterization of Bacillus cereus isolated from ready-to-eat rice products in Eastern China.

Bacillus cereus is a major food-borne bacterial pathogen in the world, which can cause diarrhea and emetic syndrome. This study aimed to reveal the quantitative prevalence of B. cereus in ready-to-eat (RTE) rice products in Eastern China and to gain essential information on the characteristics of B. cereus isolates. A total of 91 out of the 1071 samples were positive for B. cereus. The contamination level of B. cereus in 0.5 % of RTE rice product samples outnumbered 103 CFU/g. The number of B. cereus attained 105-106 CFU/g in one sample. The distribution patterns of virulence genes in B. cereu

Mastery Is Associated With Weight Status, Food Intake, Snacking, and Eating Disorder Symptoms in the NutriNet-Santé Cohort Study.

UNLABELLED: Mastery is a psychological resource that is defined as the extent to which individuals perceive having control over important circumstances of their lives. Although mastery has been associated with various physical and psychological health outcomes, studies assessing its relationship with weight status and dietary behavior are lacking. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to assess the relationship between mastery and weight status, food intake, snacking, and eating disorder (ED) symptoms in the NutriNet-Santé cohort study. Mastery was measured with the Pearlin Mastery Scale (
