Case reports are presented of two patients from Oman who developed myiasis in the palate. Both suffered from cerebral palsy and had incompetent lips, anterior open bite and very poor oral hygiene. Both patients had denuded areas of hard palate anteriorly. In both cases large numbers of maggots were found under the surrounding mucoperiosteam. Removal of the maggots and debridement resulted in resolution of the condition.

An 80-year-old man presented with a hard swelling in the lower labial sulcus. Radiological investigation showed a mineralized mass on the labial aspect of an edentulous mandible which on excision, demonstrated the histological features of calcinosis cutis. No other sites seemed to be affected by calcific deposits in this patient, who appears to be the oldest reported case of metastatic calcinosis, and the first intra-oral case, to date. The different forms of calcinosis cutis are highlighted.

The oral cavity is the oral portion of the upper aerodigestive tract separated from the oropharynx by the soft palate, anterior tonsillar pillars, and circumvallate papillae. The anatomy of the components of the oral cavity, including the oral tongue, the floor of the mouth, the retromolar trigone, the hard and soft palates, the buccal mucosa, and the gingiva, are described. The pathology discussion includes both malignant (predominantly squamous cell carcinomas) and benign disease entities commonly detected in this region.

The present clinical and pathological study describes the cases of two patients having infiltrate and ulcerous lesions of the nose, hard palate and rhinopharynx clinically consistent with a malignant midline granuloma. Histologically, infiltrates presented atypical lymphoid cells around small vessels and damage of the vascular wall. Immunohistologic study, using monoclonal antibodies on both fresh and paraffin embedded tissues, led to the positive diagnosis of peripheral lymphoma of T cells.

Profile traces of latero- and protrusive facets of subjects with class-I-occlusion showed characteristic regular patterns in curvature and angle to the occlusal plane. There was no significant correlation between the laterotrusive surface profiles and the corresponding transversal movement of the condyle which was recorded electronically in 3 dimensions. Curvature morphology was plotted as a function of tooth eruption, development of the dental hard tissues, and tooth wear. In conclusion the results were applied to comprehensive occlusal restorations.

22 Cases of bacillary positive leprosy with no apparent lesion in the oral cavity, soft or hard palate were studied for any evidence of pathological involvement. Granulomata were present in 11 (65%) out of 17 cheek biopsies studied. M. leprae were identified in four specimens only. 9 specimens (64%) out of 14 palate biopsies showed definite granulomata. M. leprae were seen in six specimens.

Twenty-eight children below ten years of age with unilateral traumatic aphakia were fitted with hard corneal contact lenses. Visual acuity of 6/12 or better was achieved in 68% of the cases. Patients who were above seven years of age at the time of injury, and those fitted with contact lenses within eight months of trauma, were found to have better chances of recovering normal binocular functions.

From 1950 through 1975, 54 patients with mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the oral cavity were treated at the Mayo Clinic. Metastatic disease occurred in 13 patients; nine patients died of their disease. Mucoepidermoid tumors of the hard palate should be treated by partial maxillectomy. Complete neck dissection is necessary for tumors larger than 2 cm in the base of the tongue. Other intraoral mucoepidermoid carcinomas are treated by wide surgical excision.

Primitive detection of the Histoplasma duboisii accompanied with proteiform manifestations, is rare in the superior air ways. Its localisation at the larynx level is an exception and makes the very interest of our following reported observation. In front of this hard diagnostic, only the pathogenic agent visualisation gives evidence. Among serological techniques, immuno-fluorescence and E.L.I.S.A. are very helpful. Therapeutic possibilities have been improved by Miconazole which both associates efficiency and inocuity.

Hemifacial microsomia is a rare congenitally acquired dentofacial deformity characterized by unilateral hypoplasia of the hard and soft tissues of the face and cranium. Associated anomalies of the vertebrae and hypopharynx cause perioperative airway management to be difficult. The case of a patient with severe heimfacial microsomia, cervical spine fusion, and temporomandibular joint ankylosis is presented, with special emphasis on anesthetic airway management. A device to aid fiberoptic nasolaryngoscopy when difficult endotracheal intubations are encountered is described.

This patient with histologically proved Riedel's thyroiditis had hypothyroidism of sufficient severity to cause panhypopituitarism, and it was this which first brought him to medical attention. The beneficial effects are described of surgery in relieving severe dysphagia and stridor, and of prednisone in softening and shrinking the hard neck mass. The extent of pituitary failure, and the degree of recovery on treatment with thyroxine are reported, together with details of 4 other cases of Riedel's thyroiditis seen by one of the authors (S.T.).

Reviews of the literature show that simple bone cysts of the jaws no longer can be considered rare. The clinical and radiographic appearances are mostly rather typical, but in some cases there are great variations. In this article an unusual case with both facial asymmetry and bilateral occurrence is described. The differential diagnosis between simple bone cysts, tumors, odontogenic cysts and vascular abnormalities is sometimes hard to establish. In those cases aspiration biopsy can be of great help.
