[Diagnostic Approaches to the Cornea (Part 2) - From Conventional Techniques to Advanced Imaging].

The cornea plays a pivotal role in visual quality, accounting for most of the eye's refractive power. It is also frequently affected by a wide range of pathological conditions. Accurate diagnostics are therefore fundamental for making therapeutic decisions. This review provides an overview of established and emerging methods for examining the cornea, ranging from corneal pachymetry, assessments of the endothelium and nerves, anterior segment optical coherence tomography, and biomechanical measurements. Advances in high-resolution imaging and multimodal platforms have significantly improved the

[Research progress on the structure and innervation of extraocular muscles].

In addition to the abnormalities of the extraocular muscles themselves and the nervous system innervating the extraocular muscles, the tissue pulley abnormalities around the extraocular muscles may lead to the occurrence of strabismus. In recent years, researchers have shown the intramuscular nerve distribution of the extraocular muscles using the Sihler technique. With the continuous progress of imaging technology, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, anterior segment optical coherence tomography and ultrasound biomicroscopy can be used to observe the attachment sites of the extra

Ocular toxocariasis.

Ocular toxocariasis is an uncommon worldwide parasitic infection that affects mostly children and is found in both rural and metropolitan areas. In many parts of the world, parasitic infections of the eye are a major cause of blindness. The diagnosis of toxocariasis is essentially clinical, based on the lesion morphology and supportive laboratory data such as serum enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) titers and ELISA Toxocara titers on aqueous humor; other diagnostic methods are imaging studies including optical coherence tomography, fluorescein angiography, computed tomography, and ocul

Congenital iris ectropion associated with juvenile glaucoma.

Congenital iris ectropion is an uncommon malformation and no reports exist about the use of modern technologies in this pathology. The authors describe a case of unilateral and isolated congenital iris ectropion associated with juvenile glaucoma in a healthy and completely asymptomatic 6-year-old girl with an unusual form of anisocoria. Optical coherence tomography and confocal scanning laser tomography showed a progressive glaucomatous neuropathy. A trabeculectomy without antimetabolites was performed and intraocular pressure normalized without other medications during a follow-up of 2 years.

Enhanced light extraction in flex-mold nanopatterned scintillators for TOF-PET.

Objective.Optical photon losses at the scintillator-photosensor interface limit both energy and coincidence time resolution (CTR) in time-of-flight positron emission tomography (TOF-PET) detectors. To address this challenge, we applied diffractive nanopatterns on the surface of scintillation crystals to enhance light extraction.Approach.We utilized flex-mold-based soft lithography to imprint 300 nm hole and line patterns over cm-scale scintillator surfaces with less than 4% relative dimensional variation. Three scintillators (LYSO, BGO, GAGG) were tested under four optical coupling configurati

Comparative analysis of higher-order aberration profiles in macular and granular corneal dystrophies.

PURPOSE: To compare corneal topographic characteristics and higher-order aberration (HOA) profiles between macular corneal dystrophy (MCD) and granular corneal dystrophy (GCD) and to identify phenotype-specific structural determinants of optical degradation. METHODS: This cross-sectional comparative study included 81 eyes (49 MCD, 32 GCD) evaluated using Scheimpflug-Placido-based tomography. Corneal topographic parameters and wavefront-derived aberrations were analyzed over a 6-mm optical zone. Between-group comparisons were performed using the Mann-Whitney U test with false discovery rate co

Three-Dimensional Optical Imaging for Pectus Excavatum Assessment.

BACKGROUND: Corrective surgery for pectus excavatum often relies on the Haller index (HI), derived from chest roentgenograms or computed tomography; however, this exposes children to potentially unnecessary radiation. Our aim was to develop a novel three-dimensional (3D) optical imaging technique to accurately measure chest wall dimensions in a clinically relevant manner. METHODS: Patients with pectus excavatum were imaged using a 3D structured light scanner. Patient characteristics, including height, weight, body mass index, and radiographic HIs (rHI) were recorded. We defined the optical in

Invasive Physiologic Assessment: From Fractional Flow Reserve to Full Physiology and Beyond.

Over 3 decades, invasive coronary physiology has evolved into a cornerstone of cardiovascular care. Fractional flow reserve (FFR) enabled lesion-specific assessment of epicardial stenoses, improving percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) selection beyond angiography. Recognition of ischemia without obstructive disease expanded its role, with contemporary testing integrating adenosine-based flow assessment and acetylcholine-based evaluation of endothelial and vasomotor function, allowing identification of angina with nonobstructive coronary arteries endotypes, and tailored therapy. Physiologi

Advanced Imaging to Assess Airway Dynamics.

Endoscopy remains the gold standard for assessing dynamic airway abnormalities in pediatric patients, but its invasiveness and variable interoperator agreement have driven interest in imaging-based alternatives. Four-dimensional computed tomography (CT) now enables objective quantification of tracheal collapse during free breathing, while photon-counting CT achieves effective doses approaching chest radiography, fundamentally altering the risk-benefit calculus for serial monitoring. MRI approaches-from real-time cine for obstructive sleep apnea localization to retrospectively gated techniques

[Adrenal adenoma presenting as serous chorioretinopathy complicated by exudative retinal detachment: a case report].

The case is presented on a 33-year-old woman with sudden vision loss for more than 20 days without a history of steroid use either locally or systemically. There was a history of connective tissue disease. The fundus fluorescein angiogram and optical coherence tomography showed multiple central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) complicated by exudative retinal detachment (ERD). Meanwhile, the computed tomography of the adrenal suggested an adrenal adenoma. After complete tumor resection, the visual and anatomical functions of this patient have been significantly improved. Moreover, recurrence of

[New technologies for glaucoma diagnosis require evaluation of their clinical application].

Optical coherence tomography (OCT), Heidelberg Retinal Tomography (HRT-II) and GDx have been used widely in glaucoma diagnosis for many years, but it is still uncertain in their practical value and clinical significance. Therefore, it requires an evaluation for the usefulness of each instrument in the diagnosis of glaucoma. The evaluation must be correct, standardized and strict in methodology, with emphasis on the early diagnosis and the concrete analysis of each parameter given by the different imaging instruments. Only if clinical application of these devices is combined with the practical

Tubercular Uveitis: Multimodal Imaging, Immunologic Stratification, and a Practical Framework for Diagnosis and Management.

Tubercular uveitis (TBU) remains difficult to diagnose and monitor because microbiologic confirmation is uncommon and clinical phenotypes overlap with other inflammatory chorioretinal disorders. This narrative review integrates evidence from multimodal imaging, immune testing, systemic tuberculosis evaluation, molecular diagnostics, biomarkers, treatment response, and monitoring to support a practical probability-based approach to suspected TBU. A targeted search of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar was conducted for English-language literature through Ma
