Empowering Women Living With HIV Through Partner-Based Interventions: A Scoping Review.

Spouses and partners play a crucial role in the well-being of women living with HIV (WLWH), especially in family-oriented cultures. This scoping review examined partner-inclusive interventions to strengthen support systems for WLWH. We searched PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library for peer-reviewed studies from 2004 to 2024. Of 1,375 records screened, six randomized trials conducted in the U.S., China, Ethiopia, and sub-Saharan Africa met the inclusion criteria. Four involved WLWH-partner dyads, two included other family members. Interventions varied in format and were facilitated by healt

Perceived Ethical Risks of HIV Phylogenetic Research: Insights from Professional Stakeholders in Uganda.

HIV phylogenetics is a powerful tool for elucidating HIV transmission dynamics, but ethical concerns have been raised about its use. We conducted a cross-sectional online survey among HIV professional stakeholders in Uganda to explore their knowledge of HIV phylogenetics and associated ethical considerations. Thirty-two participants completed the survey. 87% correctly defined HIV phylogenetics, but some were unable to recognize potential individual harms associated with HIV phylogenetic research (HPR). The most common individual and societal harms of HPR recognized were identification as an HI

An integrative review of adolescent voice on vaccination.

PROBLEM: Adolescents are a critical population for immunization efforts, yet their voice in vaccination decisions remains underrepresented. Vaccine decision-making during adolescence is frequently parent-driven, limiting adolescent engagement and agency. ELIGIBILITY: Studies were included if they examined adolescent perspectives on vaccination, involved participants aged 10-19 years, and addressed vaccines on the WHO-recommended immunization schedule. Quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods peer-reviewed studies were eligible. Studies without direct adolescent voice were excluded. METHO

Young adults' perspectives on chlamydia-related subfertility and a potential predictive subfertility test: A mixed-methods study in the Netherlands.

BACKGROUND: Chlamydia trachomatis (chlamydia) infection control could be more effective if focused on morbidity- rather than prevalence reduction. A predictive test, identifying those at higher risk for chlamydia-subfertility, could be developed to enhance targeted chlamydia control. However, do young adults with a uterus (hereafter "young adults") want to know their subfertility risk? METHODS: A sequential mixed methods study was conducted among young adults in the Netherlands to explore perspectives on chlamydia, subfertility, and a potential subfertility test. Five focus groups with Sexual

Development of an intervention for middle adolescents (15-17 years old) using the Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW) to empower adolescent decision-making regarding HPV vaccination uptake.

INTRODUCTION: In the United Kingdom, where a school-based human papillomavirus vaccination programme vaccinates 12-13 year old students, parents/guardians have been the primary decision-makers regarding receipt of the vaccination. As the average age of first sexual intercourse is 15-17 years old, education at this time could provide an opportunity for unvaccinated students to self-consent to vaccination. The aim of this study was to develop a HPV intervention, aimed at middle adolescents (15-17 years old), using the 3 stages of the Behaviour Change Wheel. METHODS: A systematic review informed

Assessment of drug harm by final-year medical students and ChatGPT - a comparative analysis.

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly integrated into medical education and clinical practice. Junior medical staff often act as first-line responders in substance-related presentations, yet their perceptions of drug-related harm are not well characterised. It is unclear how their assessments compare with harm ratings generated by emerging AI tools. This study aimed to compare final-year medical students' harm ratings of recreational drugs and alcohol to users and society with those generated by ChatGPT. METHODS: 110 final-year medical students (59.1% response rate

Cholera vaccination readiness in six African countries: A psychological and ecological study.

OBJECTIVES: This study examines the psychological construct vaccination readiness against cholera in six African countries (Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda) based on the 7C model of vaccination readiness (measuring confidence, complacency, constraints, calculation, collective responsibility, compliance, conspiracy). This allows investigating the validity of the 7Cs in a non-WEIRD and previously under-researched infection context with a low to moderate vaccination rate (<50%), which can provide valuable insights for vaccine roll-out and epidemic (and pandemic) prepared

Keeping cool - how persons with MS manage heat sensitivity: Insights from the Swiss multiple sclerosis registry.

INTRODUCTION: Temperature sensitivity affects many persons with multiple sclerosis (pwMS). Heat sensitivity describes a temporary symptom worsening in response to heat exposure. Cooling methods may counteract this and improve quality of life, but their real-world awareness and usage are poorly understood. OBJECTIVE: To assess the frequency of temperature sensitivity among pwMS and examine awareness and usage of cooling methods. METHODS: This cross-sectional analysis included 760 participants from the Swiss MS Registry. Data from a survey on temperature sensitivity and cooling methods were an

Association between disease awareness and prognosis in patients with glioblastoma: A retrospective cohort study.

This study aimed to evaluate whether disease awareness among Chinese patients with glioblastoma was associated with prognosis. This single-center, retrospective cohort study included consecutive patients diagnosed with glioblastoma between February 2009 and August 2020. Disease awareness was categorized as full awareness, midway awareness, awareness of lesser severity, and unawareness based on documented medical records and follow-up information. Overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) were analyzed using Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression methods, with censoring applied for pati

The experience of manual removal of placenta in women with retained placenta: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Retained placenta (RP) is associated with increased maternal morbidity. Manual removal of the placenta (MROP) is an effective method to address RP, but it also increases the pain and risks for women. The exploration of the psychological impact on women who have undergone MROP is currently limited. The study was to explore the experience of manual removal of placenta in women with retained placenta. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A descriptive qualitative approach was adopted in this study. Semi-structured, in-depth interviews with 15 women who had undergone manual removal of placenta (≥ 3

Islamic reasoning and the use of prohibited medicines among Muslim patients: a qualitative study.

INTRODUCTION: Muslim patients may avoid medicines containing ingredients prohibited by their faith (haram), such as alcohol, gelatine, or porcine derivatives. While Islamic law permits exceptions based on necessity (darura) or biotransformation (istihala), the way these principles influence medication adherence and shape patient-healthcare provider (HCP) interaction is underexplored. AIM: To explore how Muslims apply Islamic reasoning to medication adherence decisions involving medicines containing haram ingredients. METHOD: Thirteen ethnically diverse Muslim adults were purposively sampled

A "Curriculum of Information Needs" of Parents of Children With Chronic Constipation.

Chronic idiopathic constipation carries a significant burden on children and their families. Despite existing treatment guidelines, adherence and outcomes remain poor, with gaps in parental understanding contributing to these outcomes. This study aimed to develop a "curriculum of information needs" for parents of children with chronic constipation. This is a qualitative study which employed 15 semi-structured interviews with parents and health care professionals, in the United Kingdom. Thematic analysis of data produced 4 themes, with the primary study objective described in the first theme of

Erema po otjindjumba? Highlighting cultural models and knowledge gaps of malaria in rural Namibian pastoralists.

BACKGROUND: As Namibia attempts to eradicate locally transmitted cases of malaria, epidemiological strategies, interventions, and outreach require a sound understanding of indigenous knowledge and practice. Research describing local explanatory models of disease can be of value in these efforts by elucidating how disease is interpreted and treated. To understand how perceptions of malaria infection and treatment may influence health-seeking behaviour, cultural models of the disease were explored in two ethnic groups in rural northwest Namibia. METHODS: Mixed-sex focus groups of 4-8 individual

Addressing the knowledge and recruitment gap in Alzheimer's disease and precision medicine research among Native people: an innovative randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: The American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) population is increasing and AI/AN people are living longer than ever before. Although aging-related health issues such as cognitive impairment, dementia, and Alzheimer's disease (AD) are becoming more visible among this population, reliable data on AD prevalence and risk factors among AI/AN people are nearly nonexistent. Concurrently, precision medicine (PM) has demonstrated significant potential for detecting and treating diseases such as AD. For PM to promote health equity for underserved populations, it must not exacerbate existing

Impact of owners' perception and socioeconomic status on the treatment and clinical outcome of mammary neoplasms in female dogs.

Mammary neoplasms are common in female dogs, so early diagnosis, appropriate medical intervention, and owner compliance are crucial for effective treatment and an improved quality of life. This study aimed to investigate the spatial epidemiology of mammary tumors in female canines and explore their relationship with owner demographics and attitudes toward pet care. A prospective cohort study was conducted at a University Veterinary Hospital, where clinical data were collected throughout the treatment process. Histopathological evaluations were performed for most patients undergoing mastectomy.

Perceived Factors Affecting Patient Disclosure on Matters Concerning Contraception and Sexual History in Young Adults in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

BACKGROUND: In India, cultural norms imply that premarital sex rarely occurs. These beliefs contrast sharply with an increase in permissiveness toward premarital sex and the possibility of unprotected, risky sexual behavior. Young adults may hesitate to discuss their sexual history and contraceptive concerns with doctors, resulting in adverse reproductive health outcomes. Understanding the factors affecting a patient's decision to withhold, this history could help improve the state of sexual health among young adults in India. OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to assess attitudes

I see sick people: Beliefs about sensory detection of infectious disease are largely consistent across cultures.

Identifying cues to contagious disease is critical for effectively tracking and defending against interpersonal infection threats. People hold lay beliefs about the types of sensory information most relevant for identifying whether others are sick with transmissible illnesses. Are these beliefs universal, or do they vary along cultural and ecological dimensions? Participants in 58 countries (N = 19,217) judged how effective, and how likely they were to use, cues involving each of the five major sensory modalities in an imagined social interaction during a flu outbreak. Belief patterns were str

Assessing HIV transmission knowledge and rapid test history among the general population in Iran.

Considering the general population's lack of knowledge and, more importantly, the hidden proportion of people living with HIV (PLWHIV), we aimed to study people's knowledge of HIV transmission modes and investigate the history of rapid test usage in the south of Tehran, Iran. We conducted a telephone survey study on 1311 individuals aged 18 years and older. We asked the participants if they had undergone HIV testing at private or public health centers in the past year. Using five items, we assessed HIV transmission knowledge. We used multivariable logistic regression to analyze the relationshi
