Di George syndrome is caused by anomalous development of the organs arising from the third and fourth pharyngeal pouches and results in congenital aplasia of the thymus, aplasia or hypoplasia of the parathyroid glands and cardiovascular malformations. Hyper-IgE syndrome (HIE) appears to be related to an immunoregulatory imbalance characterized by severe deficiency of suppressor T cells, elevated levels of IgE antibodies, and repeated infection of various organ systems. We report the association of HIE syndrome in two definite cases and one probable case of vernal conjunctivitis. This association suggests that T cell-mediated imbalance may be one factor in the pathogenesis of vernal conjunctivitis.

The present study describes the T lymphocytosis in infectious mononucleosis (IM), using rosette techniques, lymphocyte transformation tests, Con A suppressor tests, and chromosomal analysis. Blood was drawn from twelve patients with IM during acute illness and during convalescence. In a group of patients who suffered from chronic ill health after an attack of acute infectious mononucleosis a disorder of T cell regulation was found. By means of cytochemical reactions the staining pattern associated with T suppressor cells was found in a greater percentage and that associated with T helper cells in a smaller percentage than in normal subjects. In a few patients this finding was confirmed in a functional suppressor assay. The patients were unwell for at least a year but most later made a complete recovery, which was associated with return to normal of the lymphocyte subsets

To determine whether abnormalities of immunoregulatory T cells are associated with primary biliary cirrhosis, we characterized peripheral blood mononuclear cells in 16 patients with primary biliary cirrhosis and compared them with 30 normal controls.
