Efficacy and Safety of Taulinoplasty Compared with the Minimally Invasive Repair of Pectus Excavatum Approach to Correct Pectus Excavatum.

Background: Minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum (MIRPE) technique is the current most used surgical method for pectus excavatum (PE) correction. To avoid MIRPE-required invasion of the mediastinum or pleural cavity, we developed taulinoplasty approach as an alternative option for the reduction of the sunken chest. Materials and Methods: This is a single-center unblind nonrandomized prospective pilot study, involving 26 MIRPE and 23 taulinoplasty patients. The primary safety endpoint was the presence of surgical complications, and the primary efficacy endpoint was Haller index measure

Hospital Survival After Surgical Repair of Truncus Arteriosus with Interrupted Aortic Arch: Results from a Multi-institutional Database.

Truncus arteriosus (TA) is a major congenital cardiac malformation that requires surgical repair in the first few weeks of life. Interrupted aortic arch (IAA) is an associated malformation that significantly impacts the complexity of the TA operation. The aim of this study was to (1) define the comorbid conditions associated with TA and (2) determine the hospital survival and morbidity of patients with TA with and without an IAA. Data was collected from the Vizient Clinical Database/Resource Manager, formerly University HealthSystem Consortium, which encompasses more than 160 academic medical

Nonintubated video-assisted thoracic surgery with high-flow oxygen therapy shorten hospital stay.

BACKGROUND: Nonintubated video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) is widely used due to its acceptable postoperative outcomes. Transnasal humidified rapid-insufflation ventilatory exchange (THRIVE) has been successfully applied in cases of prolonged difficult intubation and intensive respiratory care in patients receiving VATS lobectomy. Thopaz Digital Chest Drainage System (THOPAZ) provides regulated negative pressure close to the patient's chest, optimizing drainage of the pleural and mediastinum. We explored the surgical outcomes of nonintubated VATS lung wedge resection and traditional wedge
