Non-syndrome patient with bilateral supernumerary teeth: Case report and 9-year follow-up.

The presence of supernumerary teeth, also known as hyperdontia, is the condition of having teeth in addition to the regular number of teeth. The occurrence of multiple supernumerary teeth is often found in association with syndromes such as Gardner syndrome, Anderson-Fabry disease, Ellis-van Creveld syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, incontinentia pigmenti, and Tricho-rhino-phalangeal syndrome. Only a few examples of nonsyndromic multiple supernumerary teeth have been reported in literature. In this report, we present the unusual case and 9-year follow up of a non-syndrome female patient with b

Use of fluorescein angiography in incontinentia pigmenti: a case report.

The authors present the case of a 6-month-old female infant with a known diagnosis of incontinentia pigmenti with a normal examination by indirect ophthalmoscopy. However, fluorescein angiography revealed vascular abnormalities that were not detected by indirect ophthalmoscopy. Follow-up examination revealed progressive vascular changes that again were only detectable by fluorescein angiography. Because vision loss can cause significant morbidity in incontinentia pigmenti, the use of fluorescein angiography as an adjunctive tool with exams under anesthesia may provide invaluable information in

Asthma associated with incontinentia pigmenti and Fanconi anemia: variable airflow limitation without cellular bronchitis.

Airway inflammation is considered a central component of asthma and, therefore, international guidelines recommend antiinflammatory medications. We describe the clinical history of a 34-year-old woman with airway hyperresponsiveness and asthma who had a reduced ability to mount an inflammatory response due to two unrelated and rare genetic conditions: Fanconi anemia and incontinentia pigmenti. Absence of eosinophils in blood and sputum led to a successful reduction in the dose of corticosteroids without loss of asthma control demonstrating the clinical utility of monitoring treatment using bio

Incontinentia pigmenti (Bloch-Siemens syndrome).

Incontinentia pigmenti (IP) is an uncommon X-linked dominant genodermatosis. It affects predominantly females and is lethal in utero in male fetuses. We herein report a baby girl born with blisters on trunk and limbs. The diagnosis of IP was based on clinical findings and on histopathological analysis of biopsy specimen.

Non-contact ultra-widefield retinal imaging and fundus fluorescein angiography of an infant with incontinentia pigmenti without sedation in an ophthalmic office setting.

When fluorescein angioscopy or angiography is required in an infant, it is usually performed in the operating theater or neonatal unit. We report a case of an infant with incontinentia pigmenti in whom we were able to acquire angiographic information in an office setting by using an ultra-widefield non-contact system with oral fluorescein.

X-linked reticulate pigmentary disorder with systemic manifestations: a new family and review of the literature.

X-linked reticulate pigmentation disorder with systemic manifestations (XLPDR) is an extremely rare genodermatosis with recessive X-linked inheritance but unknown molecular basis. In males, cutaneous involvement is characterized by reticulate hyperpigmentation of the skin that is associated with a typical facies and severe systemic involvement. In the carrier females, manifestations are apparently limited to the skin with patchy linear hyperpigmentation following the lines of Blaschko that are similar to stage III incontinentia pigmenti. Thus far, only five families affected by this disorder h

Incontinentia pigmenti and hypomelanosis of Ito.

Incontinentia pigmenti (IP) is a rare X-linked dominant neurocutaneous disorder affecting ectodermal tissue: skin, eyes, central nervous system, hair, nails, and teeth. It is usually lethal for males in utero. The involved gene is NEMO, an essential component of the nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathway. Skin lesions are highly diagnostic, occurring in neonates, with a particular distribution on Blaschko lines. The severity of the disease is related to ocular and neurological impairment. The hallmark of ocular IP is retinal vasculopathy including peripheral retinal vascular nonperfu

Long-term follow-up of neurological manifestations in a boy with incontinentia pigmenti.

Incontinentia pigmenti (IP) is an X-linked dominant genodermatosis confined to females. It is usually lethal in males. However, the survival of some males has been reported in literature. We describe a long follow-up case of a 12-year-old male with IP and a normal karyotype but a genomic deletion of the NEMO gene in the Xq28 position in the form of somatic mosaicism. The patient showed severe ophthalmic abnormalities and neurological manifestations characterised by very mild cerebellar ataxia and a history of epilepsy that was severe at the beginning with West syndrome, become moderate overtim

Incontinentia pigmenti.

Incontinentia pigmenti is an X- linked dominant condition characterized by cutaneous lesions associated with developmental defects of the eye, skeletal system and central nervous system. We report a case of incontinentia pigmenti in a 30 day old female infant who presented to us with skin eruptions over bilateral upper limbs, lower limbs and trunk since birth. She had linear verrucous plaques and vesicles distributed along the Blaschko's lines in addition to macular hyperpigmentation in a linear and whorled pattern involving the concerned areas. On ophthalmological examination, proliferative r

Case reports of incontinentia pigmenti in males.

Incontinentia pigmenti is an X-linked dominant disorder, which is fatal in males, and majority of cases reported are in females. Here, we report 2 cases of males with incontinentia pigmenti. Case 1 has progressed through the classical stages of IP, giving history of vesicular and verrucous lesions and has presented with hyperpigmentation in whorled pattern. Case 2 has vesicular lesions in a linear distribution on the legs along with classical histopathological findings.

Blaschko line analogies in the central nervous system: a hypothesis.

In X-chromosome-linked skin disorders the pattern of involvement follows Blaschko lines. Patterns of changes analogous to cutaneous Blaschko lines in different X-linked diseases existed in other organs. There is no commonly accepted analogy to Blaschko lines in the central nervous system (CNS). The objective of this study was to consider a hypothesis of the existence of Blaschko lines in the CNS in the example of incontinentia pigmenti (IP). Articles were analyzed in which brain imaging methods were used in IP patients with CNS anomalies. In IP patients with neurological signs brain lesions us

[Paediatric retinal detachment and hereditary vitreoretinal disorders].

The number of retinal detachments in children is very low in comparison to the number in adults. One predisposing factor for development of paediatric retinal detachment is suffering from hereditary vitreoretinal degeneration (e.g., Stickler syndrome, Wagner syndrome, Kniest dysplasia, familial exudative vitreoretinopathy, congenital X-linked retinoschisis, Knobloch syndrome, incontinentia pigmenti, Norrie disease). Hereditary vitreoretinopathies are characterised by an abnormal-appearing vitreous gel with associated retinal changes. In most of these eyes further ocular abnormalities can be di

First IKBKG gene mutation study in Serbian incontinentia pigmenti patients.

INTRODUCTION: Incontinentia pigmenti (IP) is a rare X-linked dominant genodermatosis. Mutations of the IKBKG gene are the only known cause of IP. The presence or other than skin changes is important in the diagnosis of atypical IP cases when skin changes are discrete. OBJECTIVE: The study was designed to analyze clinical manifestation, family histories and the frequency of IKBKG gene mutation in IP patients in Serbia for the first time and to compare them with other reported findings. METHODS: Two Serbian unrelated families with eight female subjects were investigated. Blood samples were use
