We present a case of a patient complaining of monocular diplopia due to a decentered ablation after LASIK. The patient underwent a wavefront-guided retreatment, which resulted in an epithelial ingrowth complication. Additionally, the patient developed cataract, with cataract surgery requiring reliable biometric measurements. Therefore, we opted for corneal treatment and corneal surface regularization. Although we attempted to lift the flap and wash the interface initially, the procedure proved unsuccessful, thereby necessitating immediate flap amputation. Once the corneal surface was regulariz

A 14-year-old boy presented after 2 months of vision loss, redness, and pain in the right eye, initially treated as anterior uveitis with topical corticosteroids. He had a 1-year history of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, which had been in remission for 6 months. On examination, visual acuity in the right eye was light perception, with 4+ anterior chamber cells, pupillary membrane, and an intumescent cataract. Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) revealed a ciliary body mass and capsular bag rupture. After consultation with his oncologist, he received 10 radiotherapy sessions. At 1 month, UBM s

As humans age, they gradually lose the ability to accommodate, or refocus, to near distances because of the stiffening of the crystalline lens. This condition, known as presbyopia, affects nearly 20% of people worldwide. We design and build a new presbyopia correction, autofocals, to externally mimic the natural accommodation response, combining eye tracker and depth sensor data to automatically drive focus-tunable lenses. We evaluated 19 users on visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, and a refocusing task. Autofocals exhibit better visual acuity when compared to monovision and progressive lens

BACKGROUND: We investigated the outcome of 23-gauge transconjunctival pars plana vitrectomy (23G PPV) for the treatment of vitreoretinal disorder in patients with prior trabeculectomy.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed medical records of 23G PPV in 11 eyes that had functioning filtering blebs after trabeculectomy. The main outcome measures were the visual acuity, intraocular pressure (IOP) and subconjunctival fluid height in bleb by anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT) before and after the surgery.
RESULTS: Eyes that had 23G PPV showed improvement of visual acuity after the

PURPOSE: To describe fulminant toxoplasma retinochoroiditis induced by corticosteroid monotherapy.
METHODS: Clinical records of nine patients were reviewed.
RESULTS: All patients (five female, four male; aged 15-64 years) had been misdiagnosed as unilateral non-infectious uveitis and given systemic and/or local corticosteroid injections elsewhere. Mean disease duration before referral was 105.6 ± 71 (45-240) days. Visual acuity at presentation was <20/200 in six eyes. Average lesion size was 6.6 disc areas in eight eyes and all four quadrants were involved in one. Toxoplasma DNA was detected

A 47-year-old woman with a history of invasive ductal carcinoma in the right breast reported decreased vision in the OD for the past 3 months. Her best corrected visual acuity was 0.1 OD and 1.0 OS. T1-weighted MRI revealed enlargement of the right lateral rectus muscle with a faint tumor outline and no contrast enhancement in the lesion. F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography did not demonstrate intense uptake at the lesion. Because the patient demonstrated optic neuropathy due to compression by the enlarged muscle, balanced orbital decompression (of the deep lateral and medial orb

Moxifloxacin is a widely used topical antibiotic in various bacterial infections of the eye. Its safety and efficacy have been proved by many studies. We report a case of a rare adverse effect following its use. A 10-year-old female who had presented with acute bacterial conjunctivitis in both eyes with no corneal involvement was started on preservative-free 0.5% topical moxifloxacin four times a day. The child developed a severe form of corneal toxicity in both eyes with circumcorneal congestion and corneal edema following its use. The child's visual acuity had dropped from 20/20 to 20/400 in

Subretinal fibrosis and uveitis syndrome is a rare, potentially devastating, posterior uveitis of unknown aetiology, characterised bilaterally by initial multifocal choroiditis with later progressive subretinal fibrosis. We report a rare case of unilateral subretinal fibrosis and uveitis syndrome. To date, there are only two case reports of unilateral disease. Our patient presented with unilateral blur and was found to have reduced visual acuity. A Bartonella profile was positive and a diagnosis of Bartonella posterior uveitis was made. Several positive ocular findings in the anterior chamber

PURPOSE: To report 3 cases of keratoconic patients who had progressive corneal topographic flattening during a 2-year follow-up period.
METHODS: Case series.
RESULTS: Three patients with bilateral keratoconus, each operated for advanced keratoconus in one of their eyes, were observed for possible progression of the disorder for a period of 2 years. During the 2-year follow-up period, topographic examination showed progressive corneal flattening in the nonoperated eye. Mean keratometry decreased in all patients, whereas topography showed significant flattening at the apex of the cone. Best-sp
