Chronic distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) dislocation has been treated historically with complex osteotomies and reconstructive procedures, often resulting in intractable stiffness and loss of function. It is desirable to use a technique of fixation that will not only restore the wrist biomechanics but also be cosmetically appealing to the individual. We present a novel technique of reduction and fixation of a chronically dislocated DRUJ in a 26-year-old male using a minimally invasive approach, with successful restoration of DRUJ function and no postoperative complications.

Urethral duplication is a spectrum of congenital anomalies that is more common in males, but very little is known about the possible reconstruction methods and their outcome. Hypospadiac urethral duplication is a variety treated with onlay preputial flap. We report a 3-year-old patient of hypospadiac duplication who was treated with a single-stage urethroplasty. An excellent cosmetic and functional outcome were achieved by dorsal to ventral urethra-urethrostomy and novel application of tubularized incised plate technique for urethroplasty.

Injection of neurotoxin is the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the United States, and the total number of male patients seeking botulinum has steadily increased over the years. Because of their unique aesthetic goals, expectations, and anatomy, men require differing botulinum toxin doses and techniques. This article provides an evidence-based approach to botulinum toxin in men. Each area of the face is discussed separately, focusing on gender differences in anatomy, treatment goals, and injection method.

Osteomas are slow-growing, benign bony tumors. Most are asymptomatic. Paranasal sinus osteoma in the pediatric population is rare; hence, there are few reports of symptomatic osteomas. The authors report the case of a giant ethmoid sinus osteoma in an 11-year-old girl who presented with diplopia and proptosis. Total excision and reconstruction of the medial orbital wall were performed via a coronal approach. The postoperative period was uneventful, the child's vision improved, and a good cosmetic result was obtained.

Botulinum neurotoxin A causes botulism but is also used for medical and cosmetic applications. A detailed molecular understanding of BoNT/A--host receptor interactions is therefore fundamental for improving current clinical applications and for developing new medical strategies targeting human disorders. Towards this end, we recently solved an X-ray crystal structure of BoNT/A1 in complex with its neuronal protein receptor SV2C. Based on our findings, we discuss the potential implications for BoNT/A function.

An 83-year-old man presented with an unusually severe case of rhinophyma. Giant rhinopyhma is very rare in literature. The giant lesion was widely excised using sharp surgical incision and coblation assisted surgery. Using direct coblation to the nasal dorsum may cause edema in the surrounding tissue. There was minimal edema in surrounding tissue using this technique. A full thickness-skin graft was applied after excision. Cosmetic and functional postoperative results were satisfactory.

Clavicle fractures are common traumatic injuries of the shoulder girdle, with surgery being the recommended treatment for some displaced midshaft fractures. Eccrine angiomatous hamartoma (EAH) is a rare tumoral lesion that consists of vascular and eccrine malformation and often occurs in the distal extremities of children. Although EAH is benign, a therapeutic excision may be required for symptomatic or cosmetic considerations. We hereby report a typical case of EAH presenting as a painful and rapidly growing plaque on the right thigh. The associated symptoms of pain, hyperhidrosis and local hypertrichosis caused walking difficulties until the patient was cured by two excisional surgeries.

Faun tail nevus is a posterior midline cutaneous lesion of importance to dermatologists as it could be a cutaneous marker for its underlying spine and spinal cord anomaly. We report a 13-year-old girl with excessive hair growth over the lumbosacral region since birth. There was associated spinal anomaly with no neurological manifestation affecting the lower spinal cord. The diagnosis was made on clinical basis. The patient reported for cosmetic disability. This case is reported for its clinical importance.

The most challenging and appreciated area in the field of Prosthodontics is the rehabilitation of maxillary defects. Tumors of the head and neck are the common cause for acquired maxillofacial defects. Surgical consequences predispose the patient to hypernasal speech, fluid leakage into nasal cavity, impaired masticatory function, and cosmetic deformity. The Prosthodontists play a significant role in the intervention and improve the quality of life of such patients. The current article describes two clinical case reports of completely edentulous patients with acquired maxillary defects.

Unilateral congenital agenesis of sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles is a rare occurrence. To date, there are only two case reports in the literature. We present a case of a 7-year-old Caucasian boy who was born with torticollis and a cosmetic defect in his neck. An MRI scan of the cervical spine and shoulder confirmed the absence of the right sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles. No other significant congenital anomalies were detected. The patient has been followed-up for 7 years with no functional disabilities.

A 29-year-old Japanese woman presented with alopecia lesions in her occipital region and was diagnosed as linear scleroderma. Topical steroids along with psoralen and UVA light therapy were applied, but the lesion persisted. A surgical approach was therefore selected to treat the lesion. The resection was successful without any recurrence for 1 year. Sclerotic lesions on the exposed areas can cause cosmetic disfigurement, and surgery may be a useful modality for treating stable linear scleroderma.

Central breast neoplasms account for 5 to 20% of breast cancer cases. For decades, they have been traditionally treated with mastectomy. The high incidence of involvement associated with these tumors necessitates nipple and areola resection. Oncoplastic surgical techniques, in well selected cases, enable the achievement of adequate cosmetic results following a radical central quadrantectomy along with the Nipple-Areola Complex. The present paper summarizes the indications, techniques and results of breast conserving surgeries of central breast tumors.

In a prospective, randomised trial of 54 hands in 47 patients incisions were randomised to be closed by either absorbable subcuticular (polyglytone 6211, Caprosyn), or non-absorbable interrupted (polybutester, Novafil), sutures after single-portal endoscopic release of the carpal tunnel. There was a significant reduction in pain scores on days 1 and 2 in the patients treated with an absorbable continuous subcuticular suture, and no difference in inflammation or infection. There was no difference in the cosmetic appearance between the two groups after three months.

A 59-year-old woman with congenital orbital fibrosis with ptosis and enophthalmos underwent surgery to widen the palpebral fissures, which resulted in an acceptable cosmetic appearance. This is a rare entity that has been classified as a subtype of congenital fibrosis of the extraocular muscles. However, after a review of literature we believe that congenital orbital fibrosis should be considered a separate entity: it is unilateral, diffusely involves the orbit (not just the extraocular muscles) and does not appear to have a hereditary predisposition.

We describe two children with congenital sternal cleft. One child had a complete sternal cleft that was not operated upon, and at the age of 11 years the boy was still free of any symptoms. The other child had a superior partial sternal cleft that needed operative closure in the neonatal period. X-ray, CT scan of the chest and echocardiography are recommended for primary evaluation. Indications for surgical intervention are protection of the mediastinal structures, improvement of respiratory dynamics and cosmetic considerations.

A 27-year-old man suffered simultaneous avulsion of the optic nerve and luxation of an intact globe in a motor vehicle accident. CT was not diagnostic of the nerve avulsion. The injury was addressed by emergent replacement of the globe within the orbit. The patient obtained psychological benefit by retaining the eye initially, but required subsequent enucleation for prolonged ocular inflammation. Initial repositioning of intact, luxated globes offers potential cosmetic and psychological benefits. If necessary, enucleation can be performed later.

Enchondroma is the second most common benign bone tumour and the most common tumour affecting the bones of the hand. In the hand, they are most frequently found in the proximal phalanges. The case presented here is that of an expansive enchondroma in the distal phalanx of the thumb, which is rare. By operative treatment (curettage, reduction plastic and cancellous bone allografting) we were able to correct the deformity of the distal phalanx and the thumbnail almost completely, as well as improving the stability and achieving a good cosmetic result.

The leg is a very important aesthetic unit along with the face, neck, décolleté and hands. In addition to individual and inherited factors, which define the appearance and shape of the legs, multiple changes may occur during life which are cosmetically disturbing and may influence individual attractiveness. These changes offer dermato-phlebologists a wide spectrum of possibilities to intervene. Sclerotherapy, laser procedures, surgical approaches such as liposuction, conventional and endovasal phlebosurgery and physical therapy can all be beneficial.
