The purpose of this retrospective clinicopathologic study was to investigate the presence of eosinophils in oral and skin lesions of erythema multiforme. Seventeen cases were selected which fulfilled clinical and histopathologic criteria for the disease. Twelve out of 13 sections taken from skin biopsies and 4 out of 5 sections taken from oral lesions contained eosinophils in varying densities. Congenital transient leukaemia (CTL) is a haematological disorder characterized by proliferation of myeloblasts within the bone marrow and peripheral blood of affected newborns. Infants with Down syndrome are most frequently affected and although the disorder can result in fetal death due to hydrops, it typically resolves spontaneously after birth. We present a case of prenatally diagnosed fetal hydrops accompanied by splenomegaly and an enlarged, echogenic liver in a fetus identified with CTL after birth.

Fourteen cats were inoculated orally with 1 of 2 infective doses of Toxocara canis to induce eosinophilia. Cats were subsequently challenge exposed twice via intraperitoneal injection with 1 of 2 T canis antigen preparations. A 6 month old boy was diagnosed as a case of combined immunodeficiency (with predominant T cell defect by previous classification). His T cell count was decreased, his B cell count in peripheral blood was increased, his serum IgG level was decreased, his serum IgM level was normal and the thymus was not evident on CT scans and magnetic resonance imaging. Administration of the thymus hormone, thymosin, led to a partial recovery of T cell function without normalization of the T cell count. At age 26 months the patient received an irradiated thymus transplantation from a 16 week old female fetus.

We report four patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) with isochromosome i(17q) as the sole chromosomal anomaly. One patient was classified as refractory anemia (RA) and three as refractory anemia with excess of blasts (RAEB). Strongyloides stercoralis infections frequently present with eosinophilia and abdominal pain. Since the gastrointestinal symptoms are non-specific, only 15 percent of these patients are correctly considered to have an infectious enteritis or intestinal parasite. In fact, the initial diagnosis is peptic ulcer disease in most patients. The clinical course may be indolent, or patients may develop a sudden catastrophic illness, particularly following the administration of corticosteroids.

Weaned hairless rats were fed a diet deficient in fat, magnesium and folacin. After approximately 1 week, an erythematous dermatitis developed which was associated with extreme generalized pruritus.
