Next-Generation Frameworks for Hydrogen Production: A Comparative Review of MOFs, COFs, and HOFs.

Hydrogen is a key energy vector in the shift toward carbon-neutral energy systems, such as the global hydrogen economy. Of the possible production pathways, catalytic water splitting (photocatalytic, electrocatalytic, and thermos-catalytic) has drawn particular attention for its potential in producing green hydrogen. Recently, framework materials such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), covalent organic frameworks (COFs), and hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) have shown enormous potential as precisely tunable catalytic platforms due to their large surface areas, structural flexibility,

Genome-wide identification of the NAC gene family in taro and functional analysis of CeNAC48 in starch biosynthesis.

Taro (Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott) is an important perennial corm crop, and its corm expansion is accompanied by starch synthesis and accumulation. NAC transcription factors (TFs) serve as important regulators of plant growth and stress adaptation. However, their regulatory mechanisms underlying corm development and starch biosynthesis in taro remain largely unknown. In this study, a total of 83 NAC genes (CeNACs) were identified in taro. The evolution of the CeNAC gene family was mainly driven by segmental duplication events followed by purifying selection. Promoter cis-element analysis i

Atomic-scale insights into alkali metal (Li, Na, and K) ion anode performance of a low-energy graphyne polymorph.

The development of high-capacity and fast-charging alkali-ion batteries requires the discovery of efficient and structurally robust anode materials. In this work, we theoretically investigate the electrochemical performance of a two-dimensional carbon allotrope, Cp-graphyne (CpG), as a potential anode material for alkali metal (Li-, Na- and K-) ion batteries using first-principles density functional theory calculations. Owing to its porous framework and extended π-conjugated carbon network, CpG exhibits excellent alkali-metal storage capability with a high theoretical specific capacity of 558.

From feasibility to biological recovery: Reframing enhanced recovery pathways for elderly gastric cancer patients.

Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) has reshaped perioperative care in gastrointestinal oncology, but its application in elderly gastric cancer patients requires a shift from feasibility toward a biologically grounded understanding of recovery. Aging is characterized by frailty, sarcopenia, multimorbidity, chronic inflammation, and circadian vulnerability, which collectively influence postoperative resilience. Contemporary evidence shows that ERAS pathways remain feasible and safe in older adults, yet responsiveness varies widely due to physiological heterogeneity rather than chronological

From Filamentary Failure to Durable Halide Perovskite Memristors.

Halide perovskites have emerged as promising materials for memristive devices. While their pronounced electrochemical reactivity and fast ionic mobility enable numerous advantages including low-voltage operation and fast switching, the same features also render perovskite-based memristors vulnerable to metallic shunts and poor endurance, limiting their practical applications. Here, we elucidate both the resistive switching and failure mechanisms in perovskite memristors with a fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO)/methylammonium lead triiodide (MAPbI3)/Ag structure and demonstrate a strategy to subst

Layered Graphene/Hydrogel-Based Multi-Modal Sensors Enabled by Ion-Electron Synergistic Conduction.

Some scenarios necessitate high strain sensitivity for subtle motion detection, while others require stable electrical performance under deformation. Integrating these seemingly conflicting characteristics into one platform remains challenging. Herein, stretchable mechanical-bioelectric multi-modal sensors with low interfacial impedance, excellent environmental stability, excellent self-healing ability and biocompatibility, are fabricated by integrating hydrogels with chemical vapor deposition grown graphene films. Graphene with high electron mobility and biocompatibility allows long-term and

Integrated metagenomic and 16S rRNA analysis reveals temporal associations between resistance genes and microbial communities during dairy manure composting.

Dairy manure composting is widely applied to stabilize organic waste and reduce environmental pollution, yet the behavior of resistance determinants during this process remains insufficiently resolved. In this study, shotgun metagenomic sequencing was used to characterize temporal changes in antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), metal resistance genes (MRGs), biocide resistance genes (BRGs), mobile genetic elements (MGEs), and microbial community composition during dairy manure composting. Rather than inferring direct mechanistic causation, our analyses focused on identifying statistically suppo

Field-based evaluation of trunk strength using a novel in-chair assessment system in elite wheelchair athletes.

Trunk strength is essential for performance in wheelchair-based sports, yet assessment under sport-specific conditions is challenging. The athlete and their sport wheelchair act as a unit, so meaningful assessment should occur in the wheelchair itself. We developed a mobile device that measures isometric trunk flexion, extension, and lateral flexion directly in the athlete’s own sport wheelchair. We first examined test-retest reliability in both able-bodied participants and elite wheelchair basketball (WB) players. Both cohorts showed high day-to-day consistency (intraclass correlation coeffic

Engagement as a predictor of suicidal ideation and suicide attempts: Evidence from a 12-month ecological momentary assessment study in psychiatric outpatients.

Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) enables real-time monitoring of suicidal thoughts, offering a window into dynamic risk processes that static assessments miss. However, it remains unclear whether patterns of EMA engagement-rather than the content of responses-carry clinical significance for suicide risk. This year-long prospective cohort study examined whether EMA engagement predicted daily suicidal ideation and clinician-assessed suicide attempts during the 12-month period among psychiatric outpatients at elevated suicide risk. Participants (N = 585; M age = 44.1 years, SD = 14.4; 64.4%

Developing PPE management tools for use in a pandemic.

In early 2020, facilities across the United States and the world struggled to secure personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect their staff from COVID-19 during an international shortage. A sharp increase in PPE demand, coupled with dwindling supply, resulted in a need for strategies and tools to assist workplaces in calculating PPE burn rate and predicting future PPE needs. This study describes the development and potential use of a model-based approach for forecasting PPE demand for future pandemics or other disasters that require PPE. This simple-to-use modeling tool was developed to as

The effect of physical activity on Parkinson's disease outcomes in patients with bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (DBS-STN) is a recognized treatment for advanced Parkinson's disease. While it improves some clinical symptoms, especially bradykinesia and rigidity, it has limited application for late motor symptoms. Moreover stimulation-related motor adverse effects can increase the motor burden. There is a clear need to develop additional therapies that complement deep brain stimulation in controlling late motor symptoms. Physical activity is a commonly used and recommended form of therapy for patients with Parkinson's disease, supplementary to pharmac

Dextrorotatory kynurenine suppresses acute rejection through inhibiting M1 macrophage-mediated inflammation.

Acute rejection (AR) remains a critical challenge to graft survival in kidney transplantation. Although dextrorotatory-amino acids (D-AAs) have been recognized as biologically active compounds, their role in mediating immunosuppression was poorly depicted. To address this, serum samples from renal transplant recipients were analyzed via [d0]/[d5]-estradiol-3-benzoate-17β-chloroformate (17β-EBC) based ion mobility-mass spectrometry (IM-MS) to assess D-AAs levels. scRNA-seq data from the GSE109564 dataset were analyzed. Additionally, murine skin and kidney transplantation models were utilized to

Successful gene therapy for transfusion-dependent α-thalassemia: a case report.

α-Thalassemia is a severe inherited hemoglobin (Hb) disorder with limited curative options for patients with transfusion dependency, lacking suitable donors. We report, to our knowledge, the first-in-human application of lentiviral vector-mediated α-globin gene therapy in a girl aged 14 years with transfusion-dependent HbH disease (--SEA/αCSα). Autologous CD34+ hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells were mobilized, collected, and genetically modified ex vivo using the lentiviral vector (Lenti-HBA) to restore α-globin expression, then reinfused after busulfan conditioning. The patient achieved

Multimodal Characterization of Acerola-Derived Gold Nanoparticles through Integrated Advanced Distributional Analysis.

The green synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) from plant extracts offers a sustainable route to obtaining functional nanomaterials. However, establishing robust relationships between structure and properties remains challenging due to the inherent heterogeneity of nanoparticle populations. In this study, AuNPs derived from acerola leaf extracts were synthesized under systematically varied conditions and characterized using a coupled experimental and distributional framework combining UV-vis spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS), ζ-potential and electrophoretic mobility measurements,

Design and Optimization of AlGaN/AlN/GaN L‑SBD for Radiofrequency Applications.

This work presents a comprehensive investigation of the radiofrequency (RF) performance of lateral Schottky barrier diodes (L-SBDs) using an AlGaN/AlN/GaN heterostructure. The study aims to enhance carrier confinement and improve RF figures of merit by introducing a thin AlN interlayer between the AlGaN barrier and the GaN channel. The influence of AlN interlayer thickness (1-3 nm) on two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) properties, current transport, capacitance, and dynamic behavior are systematically analyzed. Simulations were calibrated against experimental data to validate key physical mod

Nanocorrugation-Enabled Surface Plasmon Resonances in Organic Conductive Polymer Films for Tunable Soft Photonic Devices.

The emergence of conductive polymers such as PEDOT:Sulf as alternatives to noble metals promises a new class of optoelectronic materials with mechanical flexibility, tunable optical properties, and a low-cost fabrication process for photonic applications. However, their inherently low free-carrier charge densities and mobilities hinder strong and spectrally tunable plasmon resonances. Here, we use full-wave 3D finite-element simulations to show that nanoscale corrugation-induced deformation in conductive PEDOT:Sulf thin films enables the excitation and tunable modulation of all-organic broadba

Stress-Induced Molecular Sieving and Anisotropic Diffusion of CH4/CO2 in Deformed Nanoporous Coal Matrix.

Understanding the coupling between mechanical deformation and interfacial gas dynamics in disordered nanoporous media is fundamental to subsurface energy applications. To decouple these effects, this study integrated Molecular Dynamics (MD) and Grand Canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) simulations to investigate the response of a coal matrix under three distinct stress paths (lateral pressure coefficients K = 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5). Structural analysis identified a critical "stress-induced molecular sieving" mechanism: high confinement stress triggers a structural reorganization, disproportionately colla
