BACKGROUND: Refractory angina (RA) is a chronic condition characterized by persistent chest pain that remains even after the patient has received optimal medical and/or revascularization therapy. Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) has emerged as a minimally invasive adjunctive treatment for RA, yet the technical aspects of implanting SCS devices remain highly variable.
OBJECTIVES: To synthesize the existing literature on technical strategies used in SCS implantation for RA and to identify common practices and areas of variability in the clinical implementation of the procedure.
STUDY DESIGN: A na

Background: Epiretinal membrane (ERM) is a fibrocellular preretinal proliferation composed of fibroblasts, glial cells, and hyalocytes overlying the internal limiting membrane. Pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) with membrane peeling is the standard surgical treatment, but postoperative cystoid macular edema (CME) can limit visual recovery. Inflammation plays a key role in CME pathogenesis, and corticosteroids may help reduce the inflammatory response associated with both ERM-related traction and surgical trauma. Therefore, sustained-release dexamethasone (DEX) intravitreal implants have been investi

BACKGROUND: Peri-implantitis is an inflammatory disease arising within a unique host-microbial-biomaterial ecosystem. Unlike periodontitis, peri-implant tissues lack a periodontal ligament and epithelial junction integrity and interface with metal oxides on titanium surfaces. The inflammatory changes in peri-implant disease not only affect the host but also extend to the implant surfaces, which undergo corrosion and particle release. These specific ecological features must be accurately captured in preclinical experimental models to provide mechanistic insight and enable translational success.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is one of the most common functional gut disorders affecting the global population, characterized by chronic abdominal pain and altered bowel habits in the absence of structural disease. The brain-gut-microbiota axis, a bidirectional network integrating central nervous system processing, enteric and autonomic function, immune signaling, and gut microbial ecology, provides a mechanistic framework that helps explain the substantial symptom heterogeneity and variable treatment response observed across patients. Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML)

BACKGROUND: Inborn errors of immunity (IEI) comprise a genetically heterogeneous group of disorders with increased prevalence in consanguineous and endogamous populations due to founder effects. Low German Mennonite (LGM) communities in Mexico represent a high-risk population characterized by genetic isolation and an increased frequency of autosomal recessive conditions. Although IEI have been reported in LGM populations from Canada and Europe, systematic data from Mexican LGM communities remain limited. This study describes four novel clinical cases of IEI in LGM patients evaluated at two ter

Background/Objectives: Perioperative chemoimmunotherapy has become an important curative-intent strategy for selected patients with resectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, most pivotal trials evaluate neoadjuvant therapy, surgery, and postoperative immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment as an integrated regimen. Whether continued postoperative immunotherapy provides independent incremental benefit for all patients after effective neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy and complete resection remains unresolved. This review focuses on the adjuvant-phase dilemma and discusses how pos

Pediatric asthma remains a leading cause of emergency department visits and hospitalizations worldwide. Patients with critical asthma represents a subset of patients requiring respiratory support beyond standard pharmacologic therapy. Management of respiratory support in these patients has evolved dramatically, with intubation rates decreasing from 6.9% to 3.4% between 2009 and 2019 while noninvasive ventilation use doubled and high-flow nasal cannula utilization increased from 11% to 52%. This narrative review examines current evidence and practical considerations for respiratory support stra

BACKGROUND: The lifetime risk of stroke among non-anticoagulated patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) approximates 1 in 3. Oral anticoagulation (OAC) reduces stroke and systemic embolism by at least two thirds and mortality by one fourth.
METHODS: The present narrative review summarizes current evidence and practical recommendations on OAC in AF and highlights recent advances and remaining gaps in knowledge.
RESULTS: The threshold for net clinical benefit of OAC is met when stroke risk exceeds 1%-2% per year, typically corresponding to ≥ 1 traditional stroke risk factor (CHA2DS2-VA ≥ 1), w

BACKGROUND: Oral diseases affect over 3.5 billion people globally, with dental caries and periodontitis being the most common. Previous studies suggest that dairy products may protect against these conditions through enamel remineralization and antimicrobial effects, but a comprehensive synthesis integrating component profiles, molecular mechanisms, and translational applications has been lacking. This systematic review synthesizes evidence on dairy products and their bioactive components in oral health, clarifies functional mechanisms, current applications, and future directions.

Collagenous gastritis (CG) is a rare chronic inflammatory disorder defined histologically by a subepithelial collagen band exceeding 10 μm, together with a chronic inflammatory infiltrate within the lamina propria. First described in 1989, CG presents with a striking age-stratified dichotomy. The pediatric phenotype is dominated by treatment-refractory iron-deficiency anemia and chronic abdominal pain, with disease usually confined to the stomach. The adult phenotype is dominated by chronic watery diarrhea and frequently coexists with collagenous colitis as part of a broader collagenous gastro

INTRODUCTION: The rehabilitation of patients following jaw tumor resection presents significant challenges, with the goal of restoring both function and quality of life (QoL). Dental implant-supported prostheses are a cornerstone of this rehabilitation, yet the optimal protocol is not universal. This mini-review synthesizes recent evidence to analyze how the initial oncological treatment modality dictates the pathway, challenges, and outcomes of implant therapy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A narrative review was conducted. A systematic literature search was performed in PubMed and Scopus for publi

The field of nanotechnology has demonstrated considerable potential in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, particularly through the use of prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-targeted platforms and tumor microenvironment (TME)-responsive systems. In the context of diagnosis, nanoparticle-based molecular imaging probes have been shown to enhance detection sensitivity and specificity. These probes include superparamagnetic iron oxide, which is utilized in magnetic resonance imaging, and near-infrared fluorescent nanomicelles. Additionally, nanostructured liquid biopsy systems h

In this narrative review, we examine baseline uncommon epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) through a structure-function classification framework and clinical evidence interpretation. Baseline uncommon EGFR mutations are molecularly heterogeneous, and exon-based classification alone cannot fully capture their structural diversity or variable sensitivity to EGFR-targeted therapy. By relating kinase-domain conformation to therapeutic sensitivity, structure-function classification offers a biologically grounded lens for interpreting this heteroge

BACKGROUND: The uterus, a complex organ, performs crucial functions including fertilisation, embryonic implantation, and supporting fetal development. Infantile uterus, resembling a prepubescent girl's uterus, and uterine hypoplasia, characterised by a smaller than normal size but with a normal body/cervix ratio, present significant reproductive challenges.
OBJECTIVES: This study aims to critically review the existing literature on the infantile uterus and uterine hypoplasia, focusing on the aetiology, clinical features, diagnosis and treatment options.
METHODS: A comprehensive narrative rev

Background: Estrogen plays a crucial role in adipose tissue homeostasis, influencing fat distribution, lipid metabolism, and insulin sensitivity. Through estrogen receptor (ER) activation, particularly ERα, estradiol (E2) regulates adipogenesis, inhibits adipocyte hypertrophy, and promotes insulin signaling. It enhances lipid oxidation, reduces lipogenesis, and suppresses pro-inflammatory cytokine production, thereby maintaining metabolic health. Primary ovarian insufficiency (POI), characterized by estrogen deficiency before the age of 40, disrupts this regulatory network, leading to adverse

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor symptoms such as tremors, rigidity, and bradykinesia. Although the exact etiology is unknown, the nod-like receptor family, pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome-induced inflammation, plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease. Many NLRP3 inhibitors are recognized for their role as potential therapeutic interventions for Parkinson's disease.
METHODS: A systematic literature search was performed in PubMed, Embase, and Science Direct databases for papers published dur
