We encountered a patient with a large retroperitoneal hematoma due to rupture of a common femoral artery aneurysm. A 77-year-old man was transferred to our hospital with left groin pain and shock. Computed tomography demonstrated a large retroperitoneal hematoma involving the left iliofemoral segment with extravasation of contrast into the left groin from a ruptured left common femoral artery aneurysm. The patient also had an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Reconstruction of the common femoral artery with a graft was performed successfully. The patient had an uneventful postoperative course and sub

BACKGROUND: Granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) is widely administered to donors who provide peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs) for individuals who undergo hematopoietic stem cell transplants. G-CSF administration is associated with a small but definite risks of serious adverse events like splenic rupture.
CASE STUDY: In this case, we report a 40 year old women, a healthy donor for her sister who has aplastic anemia, who had sharp left upper abdominal pain on the forth mobilization day. The diagnosis at CT scan was splenic rupture; irregular intrasplenic low-attenuation areas consi

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Pediatric aneurysms are rare, accounting for 0.5-4.6% of all intracranial aneurysms. Dissecting vertebrobasilar aneurysms (DVBA) are more frequently observed among children than adults. Cases acutely presenting with subarachnoid hemorrhage need a prompt treatment because of the higher mortality related to untreated cases. Options for an active DVBA management depend on the features of the malformation and include endovascular and surgical approaches.
METHODS: We refer to an 8-year-old healthy female, who presented with a sudden severe headache and vomit, followed by a half-ho

Distal anterior cerebral artery aneurysms are infrequent. The most common location is at the bifurcation of the pericallosal and callosomarginal arteries. Cerebral artery anomalies can sometimes, at least partially, explain aneurysm formation in less common locations in relation to hemodynamic stress caused on the vascular wall. We report a very rare case of subarachnoid hemorrhage due to a ruptured frontopolar artery aneurysm as a part of an anomalous anterior cerebral artery complex that was, for the first time, treated with endovascular coiling.

BACKGROUND: Stent-assisted coiling is a commonly adopted technique employed in the coiling of broader-based aneurysms. It avoids flow arrest and the risk of vessel rupture associated with balloon-assisted coiling. However, there is a risk of stent thrombosis with the corollary risk of stroke during and after the procedure. Antiplatelet agents are used to mitigate this risk but raise a secondary concern of hemorrhagic complications, particularly with ruptured aneurysm where further interventions such as ventriculostomy occur not infrequently. Stent removal after coil embolization would eliminat

INTRODUCTION: This report describes a rare case of a distal middle cerebral artery (dMCA) aneurysm.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: That developed a right intracerebral haematoma and subarachnoid haemorrhage. It was treated by surgical exploration and clipping via pterional approach.
DISCUSSION: Clinical findings and surgical approaches of dMCA aneurysm are different from proximal middle cerebral artery (MCA) aneurysms. Microneurosurgical clipping is the most effective treatment of dMCA aneurysm.
CONCLUSION: We comprehensively review the literature related to these rare aneurysms within the temporal

Introduction. Intracranial aneurysms associated with Behçet's disease (BD) are a rare occurrence. They are fragile, thin-walled pseudoaneurysms, which have high tendency to rupture and present a therapeutic challenge. Case Presentation. We report a 26-year-old male with BD presented with subarachnoid hemorrhage due to ruptured middle cerebral artery aneurysm. Additionally, two unruptured aneurysms were identified. He underwent endovascular embolization using Onyx with successful obliteration of the ruptured aneurysm. Medical therapy resulted in regression of one and resolution of the other ane

Although aberrant right subclavian artery is the commonest aortic arch anomaly, it is a rare entity in clinical practice. While mostly asymptomatic, the rupture of an aneurysm of an aberrant right subclavian artery or Kommerell's diverticulum can be life threatening. A conventional open surgical approach involving sternotomy and resection of the abnormal vessels under circulatory support carries significant morbidity and mortality. We report a case of a ruptured diverticulum of Kommerell that was successfully treated with a hybrid debranching surgery, Amplatzer device embolization of the subcl

PURPOSE: The ideal treatment for Achilles tendon ruptures is still unknown. Biomechanical were correlated to radiological and clinical parameters to study outcomes.
METHODS: In this retrospective, assessor-blinded multi-centre cohort study, 52 patients with unilateral Achilles tendon rupture were assessed, each at least 3 years after injury. Patients underwent open surgery, percutaneous surgery or non-surgical treatment of Achilles tendon rupture. Both legs underwent plantar pressure distribution and isokinetic measures. Demographic parameters, maximum calf circumference (MCC) and clinical sc

A 63-year old woman was transferred to our hospital due to a motor vehicle accident. Enhanced computed tomography showed aortic arch intramural haematoma and pericardial effusion. The patient lost consciousness, and we thought that the cardiac tamponade was indeed due to intrapericardial rupture of the aorta. The emergency operation was started via a median sternotomy, and the femoral vessels were simultaneously exposed for possible peripheral cannulations. After cardiopulmonary bypass was started through the peripheral cannulations, we fully opened the pericardium and identified bleeding from

PURPOSE: To identify prognostic factors related to ruptured and lacerated globes and compare the visual outcomes of these 2 mechanisms of injury.
METHODS: Medical records of patients with open-globe injuries referred to the Goldschleger Eye Institute between 2004 and 2010 were reviewed. Clinical parameters were summarized as defined by the ocular trauma score (OTS). All cases were classified as either ruptured or lacerated globes and a statistical analysis was performed in order to identify prognostic factors.
RESULTS: Medical records of 73 patients (55 male) were reviewed. Mean age of male

INTRODUCTION: In the past few decades, the incidence of Achilles tendon rupture has increased in parallel with increased sports participation. Although the optimal treatment remains controversial, there is a trend towards surgical treatment in athletes.
HYPOTHESIS: Surgical repair of ruptured Achilles tendon in athlete results in good functional and objective recovery, irrespective of the type of surgery performed. Subsidiarily, are the results different between percutaneous surgery (PS) and standard open surgery (OS)?
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study of 31 patients wh

An aneurysm of the sinus of Valsalva (SVA) may rupture into the cardiac cavities and cause abnormal connections between these cavities and the aorta. The right atrium and/or right ventricle are the cavities into which the SVA is most commonly observed to rupture. A 30-year-old patient presented to our cardiology clinic with the complaint of dyspnea. His physical examination revealed a thrill localized in the 5th intercostal space on the right edge of the sternum and systolic-diastolic murmur beginning from the aortic focus and spreading to the neck and back along the right edge of the sternum.

INTRODUCTION: Transvaginal sonography and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) testing are cornerstones of modern clinical practice in cases with the suspected ectopic pregnancy. In unclear cases, if the level of hCG is above the discriminatory zones, the use of uterine curettage is recommended. There is an increasing concern that strict observation of the guidelines would potentially harm otherwise normal early intrauterine pregnancies in certain cases.
CASE OUTLINE: A 35-year-old woman was admitted to hospital due to a severe lower abdominal pain. Based on the positive pregnancy test and sonog

Hemorrhage through the pancreatic duct into the duodenum, the so-called "hemosuccus pancreaticus", is a rare cause of gastrointestinal bleeding. A 75-year-old man, who was treated with anticoagulation agents for an old myocardial infarction, was admitted to our hospital for sudden tarry stools and abdominal pain. His hemoglobin level slightly dropped to 12.6g/dL. His liver function tests results and the serum amylase level were elevated. A second upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed continuous bleeding from the ampulla of Vater. A rupture of an aneurysm of the splenic artery to the pancre
