Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography for the Evaluation of Retinal Vasculature in Fabry Disease: Our Experience and Review of Current Knowledge.

Purpose: Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is a non-invasive and objective tool for the evaluation of the retinal microvascular changes in Fabry disease (FD). We investigated changes in retinal vasculature in FD patients, and the possible correlation with systemic parameters, by using OCTA, and reviewed the current status of literature. Methods: Thirteen FD patients (eight females, five males, mean age 49.85 ± 14.7 years) were compared with 13 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. OCTA 3 × 3 mm macular scans were performed in all subjects. We evaluated the vessel density and ves

Level of Agreement Between Systematic Doppler Examination of the Lower Extremity and Diagnostic Angiography in the Setting of Peripheral Arterial Disease.

OBJECTIVE: Sustained hyperlipidemia contributes to fatty liver and liver cirrhosis. Red yeast rice (RYR) effectively improved the lipid profile; however, the effects of RYR on the risk of incident liver cirrhosis remain to be elucidated. We aimed to evaluate the beneficial effects of RYR use on the risk and outcome of liver cirrhosis. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We identified 156,587 adults who had newly diagnosed hyperlipidemia in 2010-2016 from health insurance data in this retrospective cohort study. Using propensity score matching, we selected 34,367 patients who used RYR and 34,367 patients wh

Coronary arterial compression testing by simultaneous balloon valvuloplasty and coronary angiography in an English bulldog with pulmonary valve stenosis.

A 4-year-old male neutered English bulldog presented for heart murmur evaluation. Echocardiography identified severe pulmonic stenosis (an echocardiography-derived transpulmonary pressure gradient of 100 mmHg), and computed tomography confirmed the presence of an anomalous coronary artery with a prepulmonic course of the left coronary artery arising from the right coronary ostium. Before artificial pulmonic valve implantation, a coronary compression test was performed. A simultaneous aortic root angiogram and pulmonic balloon valvuloplasty revealed complete occlusion of the circumflex branch.

Utility of mean platelet volume to predict the prevalence of coronary artery disease on coronary angiography in patients with stable angina.

BACKGROUND: Approximately 50% of patients with stable angina have coronary artery disease (CAD) on coronary angiography. The mean platelet volume (MPV) has been proposed as a marker that reflects platelet size and reactivity. This study investigated the predictive value of high MPV in patients with stable angina for diagnosing stable CAD. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 491 patients with chest pain who underwent selective coronary angiography for suspected CAD were enrolled. The patients were divided into the CAD group and non-CAD group according to angiography. All demographic, laboratory,

Combination of Lesion Stenosis and Myocardial Supply Area Assessed by Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography for Prediction of Myocardial Ischemia.

Recent clinical studies revealed that anatomical information assessed by coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) may be used effectively to diagnose coronary artery disease (CAD). However, a physiological assessment, demonstrating myocardial ischemia, is required to justify a therapeutic strategy for CAD. This study aimed to investigate whether using CTA to assess myocardial supply area can improve the prediction of myocardial ischemia. We analyzed 201 vessels with moderate (luminal narrowing ≥ 50%, < 70%) and severe (luminal narrowing ≥ 70%, < 99%) stenosis on CTA from 174 patients, who

Can sectioning the posterior communicating artery be predicted with computed tomography angiography in the microsurgical clipping of basilar apex aneurysms?

BACKGROUND: Microsurgical clipping is a viable option for managing high-riding basilar apex aneurysms (BAXs) using a transsylvian approach. Cutting the posterior communicating artery (PCoA) at the perforator-free zone provides sufficient exposure of BAX, although it is not always safe. The aim was to qualitatively predict sectioning of the interfering PCoA by using preoperative computed tomographic angiography (CTA). METHODS: A virtual trajectory from the lesser sphenoid wing to the neck of the aneurysm was simulated on CTA in 19 consecutive patients operated on BAX aneurysms from 2013 to 201

Integration of high velocity test object motion into a channelized Hotelling observer for the assessment of x-ray angiography systems.

Assessment of x-ray angiography system performance is typically performed using stationary test objects with simple geometries such as a disk on a uniform background. However, these methods do not represent realistic imaging conditions in interventional cardiology as anatomy and devices are inherently non-stationary due to cardiac motion. In this work, a novel implementation of the channelized Hotelling observer (CHO) was used to assess the influence of motion blur on object detectability. A standard CHO model assumes imaging system stationarity whereby the detectability index [Formula: see te

Intraoperative transradial angiography augments safe hysterectomy for uterine fibroids in the setting of ambiguous arterial anatomy: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Transfemoral access is the traditional gold standard for uterine artery angiography; however, transradial access is gaining in popularity because of its decreased complication profile and patient preference. We present a case of a patient who underwent successful total abdominal hysterectomy for symptomatic uterine fibroids with ambiguous pelvic vasculature that would have been otherwise aborted if it were not for intraoperative transradial access angiography. CASE PRESENTATION: A 52-year-old Caucasian woman presented to her gynecologist for an elective total abdominal hysterectom
