BACKGROUND: The prevalence, risk factors, and clinical implication of seizure development were investigated in patients with metastatic brain tumors.
METHODS: Medical records and radiological findings were analyzed retrospectively in 258 patients with brain metastasis from lung cancer who underwent Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKS) between January 2008 and December 2009.
RESULTS: During the follow-up period 32 patients (12.4 %) experienced seizure episodes. Coexistence of leptomeningeal seeding was a significant risk factor related to development of seizure (p < 0.001). Prophylactic use of anti

Multimodality imaging is essential for evaluating head and neck rheumatologic disease. Computed tomography (CT) can demonstrate osseous erosions, mineralization, and structural complications, including temporomandibular joint and cervical spine involvement in JIA/RA, crowned dens in pseudogout, and sinonasal or airway disease in giant cell arteritis (GCA) and relapsing polychondritis (RP). Ultrasound is useful for detecting synovitis in JIA/RA, auricular chondritis in RP, salivary gland abnormalities in Sjögren's syndrome, and vascular changes in GCA. FDG-PET/CT can identify metabolically acti

Severe aortic stenosis (AS) is most often caused by progressive valve calcification; however, rare cases occur with little or no calcification. We report a 79-year-old man with a trileaflet aortic valve and progressive, hemodynamically severe AS despite an almost complete absence of valve calcification (aortic valve calcium score of 76.5 Agatston units). Multimodality imaging confirmed the severity of obstruction, and the patient underwent successful surgical bioprosthetic aortic valve replacement with good postoperative outcomes. This case demonstrates that severe AS can occur in elderly pati

Acquired aortopulmonary fistula is a rare condition that may cause heart failure symptoms secondary to high-output pulmonary overload. We report an unusual case of an aortopulmonary fistula secondary to an aortic injury sustained during mitral valve replacement, which was identified during follow-up because of recurrent heart failure symptoms and repeated hospital admissions. Multimodality imaging enabled precise characterization of the fistula. After a Heart Team discussion, percutaneous closure was selected as the preferred treatment strategy. Based on the assessment of the trajectory and mo

A 53-year-old woman of primary hyperparathyroidism with both ultrasound neck examination and planar 99m Tc-MIBI scan being negative revealed a tracer-avid focus in the left submandibular region in early (15 minutes postinjection) 99m Tc-MIBI SPECT/CT views, raising a suspicion of rare ectopic parathyroid adenoma. This finding was correlated on 4D-CT and confirmed on histopathology following surgical excision. Submandibular region is an unusual location for ectopic parathyroid adenoma. Nevertheless, high degree of suspicion with utilization of multimodality imaging including 99m Tc MIBI-SPECT/C

Acute hemopericardium is generally produced by complications of interventional procedures or traumatisms to the chest wall. In absence of those antecedents, clinicians face an arduous process of etiological diagnosis and treatment. We present the case of a male patient with history of Hodgkin's lymphoma and aortic endovascular treatment years ago, who develop an episode of fever, chest pain and dyspnea that was complicated with cardiac tamponade diagnosed with echocardiogram and angio- tomography. In the operating room hemopericardium was diagnosed and drained with resolution of symptoms. Diag

In this invited expert review, we focus on evolving lifetime management strategies for adolescents and young adults with congenital aortic valve disease, acknowledging that these patients often require multiple interventions during their lifetime. Our goal is to preserve the native aortic valve when feasible. Leveraging advanced multimodality imaging, a detailed assessment of the aortic valve and root complex can be obtained, and a surgically approach tailored to an individual patient's anatomy and pathology can be used. In turn, aortic valve repair and reconstruction can be offered to a great

Restrictive cardiomyopathy secondary to cardiac amyloidosis is an underdiagnosed cause of heart failure and it is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The most common types of amyloidosis are light chain amyloidosis, transthyretin amyloidosis and secondary amyloidosis. We report the case of a 84-year-old man that presented with new onset signs and symptoms of heart failure. Multimodality imaging with echocardiogram and bone tracer cardiac scintigraphy along with biomarkers, monoclonal proteins analysis and genetic test allowed to diagnosed a wild-type transthyretin amyloidosis.

Acute abdomen is one of the most common clinical conditions requiring a radiological investigation. Ultrasound is the primary modality of choice which can diagnose some of the common causes of acute abdomen. However, sometimes the underlying cause for the pain is far more complicated than expected mandating a high degree of suspicion to suggest further investigation with contrast enhanced computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging. Here, we have compiled a comprehensive series of selected cases to highlight the conditions which can be easily overlooked unless carefully sought for. This

Cardiac sarcoid is a potentially fatal condition that presents with a wide range of clinical manifestations including conduction abnormalities, tachyarrhythmias, congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathy and sudden cardiac death. Small observational registries and non-comparative studies have described clinical evidence of cardiac involvement in 5% of patients with systemic sarcoid, yet autopsy studies suggest prevalence as high as 79%. This suggests that cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) is underdiagnosed in everyday clinical practice. The scarcity of data and lack of consensus on the most appropriate

BACKGROUND: Nodular hidradenocarcinoma (NHAC), an eccrine carcinoma, has been reported in the dermatology and pathology literature, but few references have been made in the otolaryngology literature even though the head and neck is a common site of occurrence.
METHODS: A case report of a 37-year-old Hispanic man with a right-sided neck mass diagnosed preoperatively as a parotid mass by imaging and fine-needle aspiration is presented. After presentation at our multidisciplinary tumor board, excision of the mass was undertaken.
RESULTS: Final pathology revealed a NHAC, which is presented in ou

We review the literature on primary hepatic lymphoma (PHL). PHL is a rare malignancy, and constitutes about 0.016% of all cases of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. It has been reported to occur with increased frequency in patients with chronic hepatitis C infection. Most patients with PHL present with abdominal pain, constitutional symptoms and have hepatomegaly on examination. Imaging studies reveal solitary, or less often, multiple masses in the liver. The predominant histology is B-cell lymphoma, most commonly diffuse large cell type. Most patients are treated with chemotherapy, with some physicians

Effective diagnosis, staging, and multimodality therapies dramatically decreased the morbidity and mortality of children with Wilms Tumor. Increasing awareness of the disease, biology, genetics, and epidemiology improved assessment of clinical syndromes and led to more risk-based treatment. The role of tumor imaging is being defined, and primary exploration with nephrectomy remains of value to confirm histological diagnosis and disease stage. Primary chemotherapy with delayed resection is evolving into the preferred approach for large inoperable tumors, bilateral disease, and those tumors with

PURPOSE: To evaluate the diagnostic performance of integrated ¹⁸F-FDG PET/MRI multiparametric imaging for predicting the ternary classification of human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2) expression in breast cancer, with particular emphasis on identifying the emerging HER2-low subtype.
METHODS: This retrospective study included 111 pathologically confirmed breast cancer patients who underwent integrated ¹⁸F-FDG PET/MRI between August 2022 and February 2025. Patients were classified as HER2-zero (n = 27), HER2-low (n = 52), or HER2-overexpressing (HER2-oe, n = 32). Morphological, funct

PURPOSE: The role of glymphatic dysfunction in Alzheimer's disease (AD), as measured by diffusion tensor imaging along perivascular spaces (DTI-ALPS) indexing of perivascular function, its progression, and its interaction with amyloid-β (Aβ) and tau proteins, remains controversial. To investigate whether the DTI-ALPS index mediates AD-related cognitive decline through Aβ/tau-dependent pathways using tri-tracer PET/MRI.
METHODS: This retrospective study (2021-2024) analyzed 140 participants (median age 69.00 [61.00, 74.00] years; 84 women), including 99 with AD (37 early-onset [EOAD], 62 late-

BACKGROUND: Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a non-invasive form of early breast cancer, with a poorly understood natural history of invasive transformation. Necrosis is a well-recognized adverse prognostic feature of DCIS, and non-invasive detection of its presence and spatial extent could provide information not obtainable by biopsy. We describe here imaging of the distribution and extent of comedo-type necrosis in a model of human DCIS using C2Am, an imaging agent that binds to the phosphatidylserine exposed by necrotic cells.
METHODS: We used an established xenograft model of human DCIS

Major salivary gland ultrasonography (SGUS) is increasingly being recognized as having critical roles in differentiating primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) from other connective tissue disorders. Contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) has been reported to evaluate microvascularity of lesions in different tissues with objective angiographic index, eliminating the observer-dependent defect of ultrasonography. However, there are few relevant studies concentrating on the application of CEUS in the diagnosis and assessment for pSS, and their clinical utility prospect remains uncertain. In this stud

The increasing evidence for a pure amnestic-like profile in multiple sclerosis (MS) introduces the role of hippocampal formation in MS episodic memory function. The aim of the present study was to investigate structural and functional hippocampal changes in mildly-disabled MS patients with and without memory impairment. Thirty-one MS patients with or without memory impairment and 16 healthy controls (HC) underwent MRI in a 3.0 T MRI scanner. Patients were categorized as memory preserved (MP) and memory impaired (MI) based on verbal and visual memory scores extracted from the Brief Repeatable N
