Comprehensive review of the last 25 years regarding metals in the Atlantic coast of Patagonia.

This review assesses available data regarding metal concentration in biological samples (halophytes, macroalgae, invertebrates, birds and mammals), as well as oxidative stress potentially associated with these elements. The geographical zone was the Argentine coastal area of the South Atlantic Ocean, from Río Negro to Tierra del Fuego provinces. The elements Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Ni, Pb and Zn were chosen because they were the most studied metals in that area and due to their relevance on metal pollution and/or toxicity. After an exhaustive selection process between years 2000 and 2025, 66 artic

Ultra-deformable transethosomal vesicle for enhancing transdermal delivery of NSAIDs: a comprehensive review.

Topical and transdermal drug delivery methods provide an enticing option to conventional oral administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) by diminishing gastrointestinal complications and bypassing hepatic first-pass metabolism. However, the therapeutic performance of topical NSAID formulations is commonly restricted by the barrier characteristics of the stratum corneum, causing poor drug diffusion and suboptimal concentrations at the desired region. Transethosomes, a cutting-edge generation of ultra-deformable lipid vesicles formed from phospholipids, ethanol, and e

Beyond species-level differences: A comprehensive review of intraspecific venom plasticity in spiders.

Spider venoms represent a diverse array of biological cocktails, crucial for predator-prey dynamics and ecological interactions. While differences in venom composition between species (interspecific variation) are well-characterized, the extent and drivers of intraspecific venom plasticity remain a critical, underexplored area. This comprehensive review synthesizes current research on venom variation within species, emphasizing the multifaceted factors that govern this dynamic phenotype. Venom composition, yield, and bioactivity are significantly influenced by both endogenous and exogenous ele

Sustainable metallic biomaterials for orthopaedic implants: a comprehensive review of biodegradable and conventional metals.

The selection of biomaterial is crucial for the long-term success of implants. Materials that perform an adequate function and reduce negative biological responses should be taken. Due to their good mechanical strength, stainless steel, titanium, and Co-based alloys have been utilized for implant purposes; however, their permanent nature and very low corrosion rates may lead to long-term clinical complications. Researchers are looking for biomaterials that combine suitable mechanical properties with controlled and uniform degradation behaviour. In the last decade, magnesium and iron-based allo

A Comprehensive Review of Metal-Based Nanozymes for ROS Scavenging and Therapeutic Applications in Osteoarthritis.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a crucial role in the occurrence and development of osteoarthritis (OA). The homeostasis of the joint environment becomes imbalanced when joints are affected by various adverse factors, such as long-term excessive wear, trauma, and aging. Excessive accumulation of ROS in the joint can cause a series of harmful chain reactions and affect the normal function of joints. Traditional drugs are mainly used to relieve patient symptoms and cannot repair damaged cartilage or prevent the destruction process. Long-term use of these drugs may cause side effects. With the

The myodural bridge complex: a comprehensive review of morphology, physiology, developmental biology and pathology.

The myodural bridge complex (MDBC) is a phylogenetically conserved composite anatomical structure that anchors the suboccipital musculature and nuchal ligament to the spinal dura mater (SDM) at the cranio-cervical junction, with species-specific morphological adaptations across vertebrates. Physiological functions of the MDBC include hypothesized mediation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulation dynamics, stabilizing the SDM during head movements to prevent dural folding, and transmitting proprioceptive signals from suboccipital musculature to the central nervous system. A comprehensive review of ultrasonographic imaging in athletic elbow injuries: a compartment-based approach.

Elbow injury rates are markedly higher among collegiate athletes than in the general population; however, this elevated incidence is largely driven by overhead throwing sports and does not represent a uniform risk across all athletes. Elbow disorders represent a significant diagnostic challenge in sports medicine due to the intricate anatomy of the joint. High-resolution ultrasonography has become an indispensable first-line imaging modality, offering superior spatial resolution for superficial structures and the unique capability for real-time dynamic assessment. This review illustrates the u
