Reintegration programmes for people with severe mental illnesses released from correctional institutions: systematic review.

BACKGROUND: People with severe mental illness (SMI) face significant challenges when reintegrating from correctional facilities back to the community. These include increased recidivism risk, homelessness and mental health deterioration. Although specialised reintegration programmes were developed to address the needs of this vulnerable population, their effectiveness remains unclear owing to mixed findings reported in the literature. AIMS: We performed a systematic review to synthesise and evaluate available evidence on reintegration programmes designed specifically for people with SMI. MET

Food and Health: Nutrition for Prevention and Management of Cardiovascular Disease: 2026 ACC Scientific Statement: A Report of the American College of Cardiology.

Nutrition is a foundational determinant of cardiovascular health and a central component of the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, chronic kidney disease, and cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome. Suboptimal dietary patterns remain among the leading modifiable causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Contemporary evidence supports a shift in nutrition guidance from isolated nutrients toward whole foods and dietary patterns that emphasize overall dietary quality, food choice, and degree of processing. This American College of Cardiology Scient

Osteoporosis knowledge, health beliefs, and self-efficacy in UK men with prostate cancer: a cross-sectional primary care survey.

BACKGROUND: Men with prostate cancer (PC) are at increased risk of fragility fractures due to age, the disease itself, and cancer treatment, such as androgen-deprivation therapy. Despite the burden of fragility fractures on individuals and the healthcare systems, preventative measures are poorly implemented for this patient population. AIM: This study aims to explore osteoporosis knowledge, health beliefs, and self-efficacy among men with PC, and how these factors differ across socioeconomic groups. Findings will inform a tailored, integrated bone health intervention for men with PC. METHOD:

Salt sensitivity of blood pressure. From renal mechanisms to immune and inflammatory pathways.

AIMS: The variability in blood pressure response to dietary salt intake, salt sensitivity (SS), is an important factor in cardiovascular health. This narrative review aims to provide an update on the mechanisms underlying SS, including impaired renal sodium handling and endothelial dysfunction, and discuss its prognostic implications for hypertension and cardiovascular risk. DATA SYNTHESIS: The classic Guyton theory attributes SS to impaired renal sodium handling, leading to volume expansion and increased blood pressure. The vascular dysfunction theory emphasizes endothelial dysfunction, wher

The diabetic neuropathy and bone mineral density in type 2 diabetes mellitus: a cross-sectional and meta-analytic study.

Diabetic neuropathy (DN) is a common complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), yet its impact on bone mineral density (BMD) remains unclear. This study combines cross-sectional and meta-analytic methods to comprehensively explore the relationship between DN and osteoporosis in T2DM patients. The cross-sectional study included 523 T2DM patients, classified into DN and non-DN groups. BMD was measured using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), and multivariate analysis identified osteoporosis-related factors. The meta-analysis included studies published from 1999 to 2021, comparing BMD

The wildland firefighter exposure and health effect (WFFEHE) study: cohort characteristics and health behavior changes in context.

OBJECTIVES: Work is an under-recognized social determinant of health. There is limited research describing US wildland firefighter (WFF) workforce demographics or how to work associates with WFF health behaviors. In this study researchers characterized a WFF cohort and tested hypotheses that WFFs used tobacco, alcohol, and sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) differently over the course of the fire season and that different fire crews may exhibit different behavior patterns. METHODS: Researchers collected data in the field with 6 WFF crews during 2 consecutive fire seasons (2018 and 2019). WFF cr
