The Bergen 4-Day Treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: Does It Work in a New Clinical Setting?

Sørlandet Hospital in Norway has a history of offering patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) cognitive behavior group therapy using 12 weekly sessions of 2.5 h each. A previous evaluation of this treatment has shown that 51.9% did not respond at post-treatment. Recently, a highly concentrated group-treatment format, the Bergen 4-day treatment (B4DT), has been shown to help more than 90% of patients with OCD post-treatment. Based on these positive results, it was decided to explore whether the B4DT could be a feasible format for delivering ERP at another clinic. Thirty-five consecut

Monitoring of Particle Environmental Pollution and Fungal Isolations During Hospital Building-Work Activities in a Hematology Ward.

Building-work activities could cause dust contamination and fungal spores' dissemination. A significant relationship was found between building-work activities and the incidence of invasive aspergillosis, in profoundly immunocompromised patients. Renovation-works activities were carried out by four building sites of the hematology ward in a Teaching Hospital without the interruption of clinical activities. These sites were monitored by environmental sampling to determine the particles and fungi count. Clinical surveillance was made using galactomannan antigen test as a proxy for invasive asper

Symptomatic Aortic Valve Mass - Cardiac Work-Up Challenges and Role of Computed Tomography Angiography: A Case Report.

Cardiac papillary fibroelastoma are rare, benign cardiac tumors that may lead to lethal complications from embolization or valvular dysfunction if left untreated. When working up symptomatic tumors with concomitant angina, traditional diagnostic studies such as cardiac catheterization may predispose the patient to embolic complications if the mass is located in the path of the catheter. Newer, non-invasive diagnostic testing, such as cardiac magnetic resonance imaging or dynamic computed tomography angiography, may be considered in lieu of invasive approaches to avoid potentially devastating c

How I Work Smarter: A Qualitative Analysis of Emergency Physicians' Strategies for Clinical and Non-clinical Productivity.

Introduction Emergency physicians' (EP) clinical and professional non-clinical environments can be stressful and lead to burnout. However, some EPs thrive in these environments. To date, there is limited research investigating the strategies that successful EPs use to be maximally productive. Methods A snowball sampling technique was used to identify peer-nominated EPs who were, within their community of practice, subjectively felt to be successful and efficient. Participants answered a standardized set of questions addressing their efficiency patterns that were published as part of the "How I

Work-unit organisational changes and subsequent prescriptions for psychotropic medication: a longitudinal study among public healthcare employees.

OBJECTIVES: We examined exposure to different types of organisational changes at work as risk factors for subsequent prescription for psychotropic medication among employees. METHODS: The study population included 15 038 public healthcare employees nested within 1284 work units in the Capital Region of Denmark. Multilevel mixed-effects parametric survival models were developed to examine time to prescription for psychotropic medications (anxiolytics/hypnotics/sedatives/antidepressants) during the 12-month interval following exposure to organisational changes relative to no change from January

Sex and Gender Role Differences in Occupational Exposures and Work Outcomes Among Registered Nurses in Correctional Settings.

BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT: The correctional environment exposes registered nurses to unique occupational health hazards including, but not limited to, an increased risk for workplace violence. Gender role expectations regarding femininity and masculinity may influence occupational exposures and outcomes differently. Risk comparisons between male and female registered nurses working in correctional settings, have been minimally examined. With the proportion of male registered nurses working in corrections higher than that of nurses working in other healthcare sectors, and with the increasing numbe

The Nature and Cost of Readmissions after Work-Related Traumatic Spinal Injuries in New South Wales, Australia.

This study aimed to measure the subsequent health and health service cost burden of a cohort of workers hospitalised after sustaining work-related traumatic spinal injuries (TSI) across New South Wales, Australia. A record-linkage study (June 2013-June 2016) of hospitalised cases of work-related spinal injury (ICD10-AM code U73.0 or workers compensation) was conducted. Of the 824 individuals injured during this time, 740 had sufficient follow-up data to analyse readmissions ≤90 days post-acute hospital discharge. Individuals with TSI were predominantly male (86.2%), mean age 46.6 years. Around

Cross-Cultural Adaptation and Psychometric Evaluation of the Dutch Version of the Work Rehabilitation Questionnaire (WORQ-VL).

Purpose The Work Rehabilitation Questionnaire (WORQ) was developed to evaluate work functioning in vocational rehabilitation, but was not yet available in Dutch. The goal of this study is twofold: a description of the cross-cultural adaptation process (part 1) of the WORQ to be used in Flanders (The Dutch speaking part of Belgium, WORQ-VL) and a presentation of the first psychometric testing of the WORQ-VL (part 2). Methods For part 1, the guidelines for cross-cultural adaptation of self-report measures by Beaton et al. were used to structure the cross-cultural adaptation. For part 2, a cross-

Cardiovascular autonomic testing in the work-up of cerebellar ataxia: insight from an observational single center study.

BACKGROUND: Cerebellar ataxias are a heterogeneous group of disorders of both genetic and non-genetic origin. In sporadic cases, two entities are recognized: multiple system atrophy of cerebellar type (MSA-C) and SAOA (sporadic adult-onset ataxia). The presence of severe cardiovascular autonomic failure reliably distinguishes MSA-C from other ataxias, but it may appear only late in the disease course. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the diagnostic yield of cardiovascular autonomic function tests in the work-up of cerebellar ataxia. METHODS: We applied a cardiovascular autonomic tests battery in conse

Preliminary Work Towards Finding Proteins as Potential Vaccine Candidates for Vibrio cholerae Pakistani Isolates through Reverse Vaccinology.

Background and Objective: Vibrio cholerae continues to emerge as a dangerous pathogen because of increasing resistance to a number of antibiotics. This paper provides a solution to emerging antibiotic resistance by introducing novel proteins as vaccine candidates against cholera. Materials and Methods: Vibrio cholerae genome versatility is a hurdle for developing a vaccine to combat diarrhoeal infection, so its core gene information was used to determine a potential vaccine candidate. Whole genome sequence data of more than 100 Vibrio cholerae strains were used simultaneously to get core genom

Randomized Controlled Trial of Adding Telephone Follow-Up to an Occupational Rehabilitation Program to Increase Work Participation.

Purpose Transfer from on-site rehabilitation to the participant's daily environment is considered a weak link in the rehabilitation chain. The main objective of this study is to see if adding boosted telephone follow-up directly after completing an occupational rehabilitation program effects work participation. Methods A randomized controlled study included participants with chronic pain, chronic fatigue or common mental disorders on long-term sick leave. After completing 3½ weeks of acceptance and commitment therapy based occupational rehabilitation, participants were randomized to boosted fo

Early, specialist vocational rehabilitation to facilitate return to work after traumatic brain injury: the FRESH feasibility RCT.

BACKGROUND: Up to 160,000 people incur traumatic brain injury (TBI) each year in the UK. TBI can have profound effects on many areas of human functioning, including participation in work. There is limited evidence of the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of vocational rehabilitation (VR) after injury to promote early return to work (RTW) following TBI. OBJECTIVE: To assess the feasibility of a definitive, multicentre, randomised controlled trial (RCT) of the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of early, specialist VR plus usual care (UC) compared with UC alone on work re

Magnetic resonance imaging analysis of work-related chronic low back pain: comparisons of different lumbar disc patterns.

BACKGROUND: Currently, there is a lack of comparative research about different lumbar disc patterns in patients with work-related chronic low back pain (CLBP) based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) analysis. Therefore, this study, on different patterns of lumbar disc degeneration or herniation in patients with CLBP, is valuable. In this study, we retrospectively investigated lumbar degenerative changes in patients with CLBP by using MRI analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two hundred and eighty-three patients (110 women and 173 men) with work-related CLBP were enrolled and divided into four g

Puncture Protocol in the Diagnostic Work-Up of a Suspected Chronic Prosthetic Joint Infection of the Hip.

BACKGROUND: Diagnosing a chronic prosthetic joint infection (PJI) can be challenging. We hypothesized that obtaining preoperative tissue samples for culture in hip arthroplasty will increase the likelihood of diagnosing an infection before revision surgery. The aim of this cohort study was to determine the diagnostic accuracy of 2 tissue acquiring biopsy strategies to diagnose a PJI. METHODS: Patients with a painful hip arthroplasty, in which a chronic PJI was suspected, were included. Tissue samples were obtained either by ultrasound guidance with a 16-Gauge needle (2012-2013) or in the oper
