Prognostic significance of squamous differentiation in pT2N0 urothelial bladder cancer.

Bladder cancer is the ninth most common malignancy worldwide, with urothelial carcinoma (UC) representing the predominant histopathological subtype. UC may present as pure urothelial carcinoma (PUC), or alongside other variant histologies (VHs), with squamous differentiation in UC (SD) being the most frequently observed variant. The present study provides a population-based insight into the survival outcomes of patients with SD compared with PUC in early-stage disease. The present retrospective, observational study analyzed pathology reports from all cystectomies (n=632) performed at Uludag Un

Microbiome signature of Parkinson's disease in healthy and genetically at-risk individuals.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a major cause of disability. GBA1 variants are the most common genetic risk factor for PD and increase the risk up to 30-fold. Why only approximately 20% of GBA1 variant carriers develop PD remains unknown. Here, by combining clinical and fecal metagenomics data from 271 patients with PD, from 43 carriers of GBA1 variants not manifesting PD symptoms (GBA-NMC) and from 150 healthy controls, and using an innovative microbiome analysis, combining differential abundance of species and coherence of differential abundance variation between the groups as assessed by Cliff'

What makes you different? A qualitative study on experiences of not fitting in with social norms across cultures.

People who deviate from social norms often face negative consequences such as exclusion, loneliness, or impaired wellbeing. While previous research has focused on consequences for specific minority groups, we know little about experiences of deviating from the norm in the general population, and about consequences and remedies that people perceive thereof. To fill these gaps, we conducted 62 qualitative in-depth interviews with young adults ages 18-30 years --- an age group that seems relatively sensitive to norm deviations. As social norms and sanctions vary cross-culturally, we sampled from

The relationship between mothers' maladaptive schemas and sleep problems in 12-to-36-month-old children: The role of attachment and sleep behaviors.

Sleep problems in early childhood are common and may be shaped by maternal psychological factors. This study, performed in Turkey, explored the association between mothers' early maladaptive schemas (EMS) and sleep difficulties in children aged 12-36 months. Mothers' early maladaptive schemas were assessed using the Young Schema Questionnaire-Short Form 3 (YSQ-S3), and sleep difficulties in children were defined according to BISQ-derived clinical criteria. The sample consisted of 58.8% boys and 41.2% girls. Among 153 mothers, those whose children had sleep problems exhibited lower levels of "e

A preliminary study of facial soft tissue thickness for forensic facial reconstruction in a Nigerian adult female community.

Forensic facial reconstruction is the reproduction of a deceased person's antemortem face, most commonly achieved using population-based data of facial soft tissue thickness. Facial soft tissue thickness (FSTT) data have been documented for many populations. However, there are no published data for Nigerian female adults. This study measured the facial soft tissue thickness of 32 subjects based on computed tomography scans. Measurements were taken from 50 facial soft tissue thickness points, including 12 mid-sagittal and 19 bilateral (right and left) points, across a diverse age range of 18 to
