Talaromyces marneffei Infection Misdiagnosed as Lung Cancer and Retrospective Literature Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Talaromyces marneffei (TM), an opportunistic fungal pathogen, causes severe infections in immunocompromised individuals. While endemic to tropical regions of Southeast Asia and South Asia, sporadic cases have been reported in non-endemic areas. Diagnosis is often delayed due to nonspecific clinical and laboratory features, contributing to high mortality. CASE PRESENTATION: A HIV-positive patient subsequently developed TM pulmonary infection. Clinical symptoms and laboratory test results were non-specific. Imaging studies revealed pulmonary masses, and the patient was misdiagnosed

Global Prevalence of Spinal Muscular Atrophy in 204 Countries and Territories, 1960-2024: A Systematic Review and Bayesian Modeling Study.

BACKGROUND: Despite major therapeutic advances, the global epidemiology of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) remains poorly characterized, with substantial geographic disparities in diagnostic capacity and data availability. Here, we aimed to estimate the global, regional, and national prevalence of SMA across all ages, newborns, and children. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, and Google Scholar from database inception to October 13, 2025, for studies reporting SMA prevalence. We used a Bayesian hierarchical linear mixed-effects model to estimate SMA prevalence f

Genomic divergence between clinical and environmental Pseudomonas aeruginosa within ST-matched high-risk and sporadic lineages: A case study.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a major opportunistic pathogen and a leading cause of nosocomial infections in the Asia-Pacific region. This comparative genomic case study investigated 18 P. aeruginosa isolates, categorized into nine ST-matched sets to minimize phylogenetic noise and identify genomic divergence between clinical and environmental habitats. The isolates represent both globally distributed high-risk clones (ST235, ST357, ST308) and sporadic lineages (ST274, ST316, ST381). The genomes possessed a mean size of 6.7 ± 0.2 Mbp and shared a core genome of 4639 genes. Virulence profiling reve
