ZF-QDCNN: ZFNet and quantum dilated convolutional neural network based Alzheimer's disease detection using MRI images.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a severe neurological disorder that leads to irreversible memory loss. In the previous research, the early-stage Alzheimer's often presents with subtle memory issues that are difficult to differentiate from normal age-related changes. This research designed a novel detection model called the Zeiler and Fergus Quantum Dilated Convolutional Neural Network (ZF-QDCNN) for AD detection using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Initially, the input MRI images are taken from a specific dataset, which is pre-processed using a Gaussian filter. Then, the brain area segmentation

Advanced SERSome-based artificial-intelligence technology for identifying medicinal and edible homologs.

Medicinal and edible homologs (MEHs) offer significant preventive and therapeutic benefits for various diseases and health functions. However, the widespread application of MEHs faces significant challenges, particularly in quality control and rapid identification. In this study, we present a novel approach that combines surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) based on spectral set, referred as "SERSome", with deep learning to develop an identification model for analyzing MEHs. The platform uses silver nanoparticles prepared via reduction with NaBH4, activation with sodium borohydride, and

Next-generation non-animal models for inflammatory bowel disease: In vitro and in silico approaches for mechanistic understanding.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), encompassing ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, is a chronic and relapsing inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract resulting from a complex interplay of oxidative stress, immune dysregulation, microbial imbalance, and epithelial dysfunction. While animal models have primarily contributed to our understanding of IBD pathogenesis, their limited translational relevance and ethical concerns have led to the accelerated adoption of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs). This review highlights the increasing importance of in vitro platforms, including i

Application of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the different pathological stages of ischemic stroke: Target immune cells.

Immune cells play a pivotal role in the complex pathophysiology of ischemic stroke (IS), with their functions dynamically shifting throughout the disease's progression. Throughout the different pathological stages of IS, various immune cells, such as microglia, T cells, neutrophils, NK cells, and mononuclear/macrophages, contribute uniquely to the disease's trajectory. Although thrombolytic therapy remains the standard treatment for IS, its efficacy is limited by a narrow therapeutic window, underscoring the need for alternative or adjunctive therapeutic strategies. Increasingly, the therapeut

Targeting immune cell migration as therapy for inflammatory disease: a review.

Immune cell migration plays a pivotal role in coordinating inflammatory responses and maintaining immune surveillance. Here, we provide a comprehensive overview of the migratory behaviors of key immune cell subsets, including Th1, Th2, regulatory T cells, macrophages, dendritic cells, and neutrophils and the molecular mechanisms that guide their trafficking from lymphoid organs to inflamed tissues. We highlight the stepwise migration cascade: priming in secondary lymphoid organs, trafficking through blood vessels, adhesion to endothelium, and extravasation into tissues. Each step is critically

[Acupuncture effects and neuro-immune regulation: a breakthrough in "treating diseases at the root"].

The holistic philosophy of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) embodied in acupuncture therapy has gained novel insights within the neuroimmune regulatory framework. Its mechanistic framework encompasses 3 pivotal dimensions: 1) Acupuncture stimulation at acupoints transduces mechanical signals into neuroelectrical and biochemical signals, initiating localized immunomodulatory microenvironment remodeling; 2) The autonomic nervous system orchestrates systemic and organ-specific immune homeostasis through vagus nerve-mediated anti-inflammatory effects and sympathetic nerve-mediated bidirectional

Precision Medicine in Asthma: The Role of Biomarkers.

Asthma represents a profoundly heterogeneous syndrome underpinned by multiple, distinct and overlapping immunopathological mechanisms. Nevertheless, prevailing management algorithms continue to adopt a largely uniform, stepwise approach in which pharmacotherapy is intensified only after clinical deterioration or recurrent exacerbations. Although the advent of targeted biologic agents has improved outcomes in severe asthma, the realisation of precision medicine - therapeutic selection directed by individual disease mechanisms - remains elusive. This is primarily attributable to the limited avai

Gut microbiota and alcohol use disorder: a new frontier in treatment and recovery.

AIMS AND METHOD: Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a major global health concern associated with limited treatment efficacy and high relapse rates. Recent research highlights the gut microbiota as a critical modulator of AUD pathophysiology through its influence on the gut-brain axis. Chronic alcohol consumption induces gut dysbiosis, characterised by reduced microbial diversity, impaired gut barrier function and systemic inflammation, which perpetuate neuroinflammation, stress dysregulation and neurotransmitter imbalances. These disruptions exacerbate addiction-related behaviours, contributing to

From immunosuppression to immune reprogramming: is triptolide a potential "immune reset" agent in autoimmune diseases?

Current biologics and small-molecule inhibitors for autoimmune diseases often provide symptomatic relief but fail to restore immune tolerance, necessitating lifelong treatment with associated risks. Triptolide, a natural compound from Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F, exhibits a unique capacity for immune reprogramming, simultaneously suppressing pathogenic immunity while enhancing regulatory functions, positioning it as a potential 'immune reset' agent. However, its clinical translation is plagued by a narrow therapeutic window due to mechanism-based toxicity, creating a critical challenge of de
