Outcomes of Casualties Without Airway Trauma Undergoing Prehospital Airway Interventions: A Department of Defense Trauma Registry Study.

INTRODUCTION: Airway obstruction is the second leading cause of preventable death on the battlefield. Most airway obstruction occurs secondary to traumatic disruptions of the airway anatomical structures. However, casualties may require airway interventions for other indications (e.g., depressed mental status). We describe casualties undergoing airway intervention in the prehospital, combat setting without apparent upper airway trauma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We used a series of emergency department procedure codes to identify patients within the Department of Defense Trauma Registry (DODTR) f

Prevalence, management, and outcome of adverse rhythm disorders in takotsubo syndrome: insights from the international multicenter GEIST registry.

One important complication related to takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is adverse rhythm disorders. Our study was conducted to determine the incidence and management of adverse rhythm disorders in TTS and its long-term prognostic impact. We analyzed 906 TTS patients from 9 European centers. Patients were divided into the adverse rhythm disorders group (encompassing ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, torsade de pointes, and asystole or complete atrioventricular block) and non-adverse rhythm disorders group. In our study cohort, we identified 67 (7.4%) patients with presence of adverse r

Contemporary Trends, Predictors and Outcomes of Perforation During Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (From the NCDR Cath PCI Registry).

Coronary artery perforation (CP) is a rare but potentially life-threatening complication of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Given the marked increase in high-risk and complex PCIs, careful review and understanding of PCI complications may help to improve procedural and clinical outcomes. Our aim was to study the trends, predictors and outcomes of CP in the contemporary era. This cross-sectional multicenter analysis included data collected from institutions participating in the National Cardiovascular Data Registry CathPCI Registry between July 2009 and June 2015. Clinical Benefit of Statins in Korean Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction: Experience of the Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry.

Statins (3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase inhibitor) are among the most important medications for treating patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Herein, we review the clinical benefit and future scope of statin therapy in Korean patients with AMI from the experience of the Korea AMI Registry. Statins are effective and safe in AMI patients, even in those with very low low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). Peri-procedural statin treatment could reduce the incidence of early stent thrombosis in patients with AMI after percutaneous coronary intervention. Reduction

Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator therapy to reduce sudden cardiac death in adults with congenital heart disease: A registry study.

INTRODUCTION: The adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) population is rapidly expanding. However, a significant proportion of these patients suffer sudden cardiac death. Recommending implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) insertion requires balancing the need for appropriate therapy in malignant arrhythmia against the consequences of inappropriate therapy and procedural complications. Here we present long-term follow-up data for ICD insertion in patients with ACHD from a large Level 1 congenital cardiac center. METHODS AND RESULTS: All patients with ACHD undergoing ICD insertion over an
