Most reverse transcription PCR protocols for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) include 2-3 targets for detection. We developed a triplex, real-time reverse transcription PCR for SARS-CoV-2 that maintained clinical performance compared with singleplex assays. This protocol could streamline detection and decrease reagent use during current high SARS-CoV-2 testing demands.

The infectious process of Lyme disease can appear as chronic dermatologic, rheumatologic, or neurologic. To rationally select a treatment regimen, the physician must have an appreciation of the clinical manifestations of the illness and of the systemic nature of the infection. The authors discuss the proper treatment protocols for each stage in the progression of Lyme disease.

Skin-to-skin contact (SSC) is a key component of infant- and family-centered developmental care in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) and is associated with improved clinical and neurodevelopmental outcomes. However, SSC implementation in NICUs remains highly variable, often limited by perceived barriers and uncertainties regarding safety. This review aims to identify these barriers and summarize strategies to support the safe and consistent integration of SSC into routine neonatal care. Current evidence identifies barriers at multiple levels, including clinical factors (extreme prematurity,

In recent years, Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT), or so-called low-level laser therapy, has gained dental researchers' attention as a promising non-invasive treatment method, which can be implemented for neurosensory recovery of the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) following iatrogenic trauma caused by dental procedures, such as orthognathic surgery, implant placement, and molar extractions. This study reviews the findings from clinical studies within the past 10 years evaluating the efficacy of PBMT in these settings. Through assessing varying results, we understood that generally they acceler

OBJECTIVE: Current approaches to school-based caries prevention can increase access to oral healthcare, but are often limited by costs and other logistical challenges. Evidence from large pragmatic trials support the use of silver diamine fluoride (SDF) to prevent and control caries in school dental programs. In this pilot, we developed implementation strategies and integrated SDF into an existing school-based dental program, Smiles For Students (SFS).
METHODS: This was a single-group observational pilot. Using a school-based SDF implementation toolkit, SFS clinicians received training in cli

Psychiatric disorders are a common source of disease morbidity with high rates of refractoriness to first-line treatments. As such, many have investigated the utility of neurosurgical interventions for treatment-resistant forms of these conditions. More recently among these, functional neurosurgical techniques using high- and low-intensity focused ultrasound (FUS) have emerged as promising options in this arena, largely due to their minimally-invasive nature and encouraging early safety and efficacy data. Existing clinical data have thus far demonstrated FUS to be a potentially useful interven

Late-life depression (LLD), a growing public health challenge in aging societies, profoundly impacts physical and mental health by exacerbating cognitive decline, functional disability, and comorbid chronic diseases. Emerging research highlights vitamin supplementation as a promising adjunctive therapy for LLD, targeting its multifactorial pathogenesis involving mitochondrial dysfunction, neuroinflammation, and oxidative stress. Specific vitamins, including B-complex vitamins (B1, B6, B9, B12), vitamin D, and antioxidants (C, E), demonstrate therapeutic potential through mechanisms ranging fro

One of the major advancements in in vitro fertilization (IVF) has been the development of culture media that enhance gamete maturation in vitro and sustain embryo development up to the blastocyst stage. The deep understanding of the mechanisms involved in gametogenesis and the complex sequence of events surrounding nuclear and cytoplasmic maturation has also enabled the development of efficient in vitro maturation (IVM) protocols. This review outlines the major landmarks in the history of in vitro maturation of oocytes, the advantages and importance of its clinical application in human, especi

Emerging autologous cellular therapies that utilize platelet-rich plasma (PRP) applications have the potential to play adjunctive roles in a variety of regenerative medicine treatment plans. There is a global unmet need for tissue repair strategies to treat musculoskeletal (MSK) and spinal disorders, osteoarthritis (OA), and patients with chronic complex and recalcitrant wounds. PRP therapy is based on the fact that platelet growth factors (PGFs) support the three phases of wound healing and repair cascade (inflammation, proliferation, remodeling). Many different PRP formulations have been eva

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Organ transplantation is the state-of-the-art treatment for end-stage organ failure; however, long-term graft survival is still unsatisfactory. Despite improved immunosuppressive drug therapy, patients are faced with substantial side effects and the risk of chronic rejection with subsequent graft loss. The transplantation of donor bone marrow for the induction of mixed chimerism has been recognized to induce donor-specific tolerance a long time ago, but safety concerns regarding toxicities of current bone marrow transplantation (BMT) protocols impede widespread application.

Background and objective Enteral nutrition (EN) protocols are commonly used to support energy delivery in critically ill patients. However, to our knowledge, no studies have examined the use of EN protocols in critically ill coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients. Therefore, we conducted a single-center, retrospective study to examine whether the use of an EN protocol was associated with achieving the target energy intake of 25 kcal/kg/day within seven days after ICU admission in critically ill COVID-19 patients. Methods The retrospective study included critically ill COVID-19 patients b

BACKGROUND: Over the last two decades, a long protocol of Gonadotrophin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa) to prevent premature LH surges has been the standard treatment for ovarian stimulation in assisted reproduction. In the long protocols (with GnRHa started either in the mid luteal phase or in the early follicular phase of the preceding cycle) gonadotrophin administration is delayed until pituitary desensitization has been achieved, which usually takes 2-3 weeks. Gonadotrophin-releasing hormone antagonists produce immediate suppression of gonadotrophin secretion, hence, they can be given af
