PURPOSE: Middle ear disease is increasingly being managed via transcanal endoscopic ear surgery (TEES). A limitation of TEES is that it restricts the surgeon to single-handed dissection. One solution to this would be an endoscope holder to facilitate two-handed dissection. Among different types of lasers, the erbium laser exhibits particularly favourable characteristics for ear surgery. PURPOSE: Malformations of the internal auditory canal (IAC) are rare. They can present as a narrowing of the canal due to aplasia or hypoplasia of the vestibulocochlear nerve, complete atresia, or even a doubling of the IAC. The lack of surgical landmarks and facial nerve irregularities make cochlear implantation in this population a challenging endeavor.
