Biofunctionalized reduced (graphene quantum dots-graphene oxide) nanohybrid modified screen printed electrode for electrochemical detection of thyroid stimulating hormone.

A selective and sensitive surface modified screen printed carbon electrode (SPCE) with reduced (graphene quantum dots-graphene oxide), r(GQD/GO) nanohybrid, is reported for the electrochemical detection of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). TSH specific monoclonal antibody was immobilized on r(GQD/GO)/SPCE by wet method to obtain a bioelectrode. The bioelectrode was characterized with microscopic, spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques and the differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) measurement was used for the detection of TSH in phosphate buffer saline 0.1 M PBS (pH 7.4; 0.1 M KCl). Myasthenia gravis complicated by Graves' disease: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Myasthenia gravis is a neuromuscular autoimmune condition characterized by the presence of antibodies against acetylcholine receptors. It may present as a generalized disorder or remain limited to specific muscle groups. Myasthenia gravis can occur independently or alongside other autoimmune conditions, including Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Graves' disease. Although the co-occurrence of these disorders is recognized, it is an extremely rare clinical phenomenon. CASE PRESENTATION: A 20-year-old woman of Muganda ethnicity, with a 2-year history of Graves' disease confirmed by thyr

[Pyoderma gangrenosum as an initial manifestation of systemic disease].

In order to describe the clinical features and diagnostic challenges of pyoderma gangrenosum, we present the case of a 39-year-old woman who consulted for ulcerated lesions on the lower limbs and left forearm, initially secondary to dog bites of one week's evolution. Despite surgical debridement and empirical antibiotic therapy, the patient developed new cutaneous lesions, fever, and hemodynamic instability, requiring invasive mechanical ventilation. During hospitalization, newly diagnosed hyperthyroidism and hypogammaglobulinemia due to IgG deficiency -findings consistent with common variable

Triple signal biosensing platform for ultrasensitive and wide-range detection of HLA gene targets.

Hyperthyroidism, a multifaceted endocrine disorder, is strongly associated with specific human leukocyte antigen (HLA) alleles, which also play a critical role in drug-induced complications such as agranulocytosis. Conventional HLA genotyping methods often face limitations in simultaneously achieving high accuracy, rapidity, and operational simplicity. To address these challenges, we developed a multimodal biosensing platform for the highly sensitive detection of alleles. This platform synergistically integrates three modalities. After molecular recognition, Electrochemiluminescence resonance

Thyroid Hormone Regulates Postnatal Development of the Rete Testis in Mice.

Thyroid hormone regulates the rate of testis maturation in mammals. Manipulations of thyroid hormone levels in neonatal animals affect various aspects of testis biology. However, there have been no studies examining the effects of thyroid hormone on the rete testis (RT). Here, we used animal models of neonatal hyperthyroidism (injections of triiodothyronine, or T3) and hypothyroidism (goitrogen 6-propyl-2-thiouracil [PTU] treatment) and found that higher levels of thyroid hormone accelerate RT development, while lower levels of thyroid hormone delay it. T3 and PTU treatments influence RT size,

The impact of thyroid function on total spine bone mineral density in postmenopausal women.

PURPOSE: Osteoporosis has been a widespread concern for older women, especially postmenopausal women. Thyroid function is crucial for bone metabolism. However, the relationship between thyroid function variation within thyroxine reference range and bone mineral density (BMD) remains ambiguous. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of subclinical hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism on total spinal BMD in postmenopausal women. METHODS: Based on data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2007-2010, multivariable weighted logistic regression was used to

Unusual imaging findings associated with abdominal pediatric germ cell tumors.

Germ cell tumors of childhood are tumors arising from germline cells in gonadal or extragonadal locations. Extragonadal germ cell tumors are characteristically located in the midline, arising intracranially or in the mediastinum, retroperitoneum, or pelvis. These tumors are generally easily diagnosed due to typical sites of origin, characteristic imaging findings, and laboratory markers. However, germ cell tumors can be associated with unusual clinical syndromes or imaging features that can perplex the radiologist. This review will illustrate atypical imaging/clinical manifestations and compli

Association of autoimmune thyroid disease with type 1 diabetes mellitus and its ultrasonic diagnosis and management.

As a common hyperglycemic disease, type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a complicated disorder that requires a lifelong insulin supply due to the immune-mediated destruction of pancreatic β cells. Although it is an organ-specific autoimmune disorder, T1DM is often associated with multiple other autoimmune disorders. The most prevalent concomitant autoimmune disorder occurring in T1DM is autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD), which mainly exhibits two extremes of phenotypes: hyperthyroidism [Graves' disease (GD)] and hypo-thyroidism [Hashimoto's thyroiditis, (HT)]. However, the presence of comorbid A

A short review of current knowledge regarding long-term treatment of Graves' disease with antithyroid drugs.

Graves' disease is the most common form of hyperthyroidism, especially in younger people. Current European guidelines recommend antithyroid drugs as initial treatment for a period limited to 12-18 months. Definitive treatment such as surgery or radioactive iodine is proposed in the case of contraindication to antithyroid drugs or in the case of recurrence after medical treatment. However, more recent studies show that long-term antithyroid treatment is associated with reduced risk of recurrence without an increase in adverse effects. Such data support the option of long-term treatment of Grave

The Impact of Environmental Factors on the Development of Autoimmune Thyroiditis-Review.

Autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto's thyroiditis) is the most common autoimmune disease. It most often manifests itself as hypothyroidism but may also present with euthyroidism or even hyperthyroidism. The etiopathogenesis of autoimmune thyroiditis is still unclear. However, in addition to genetic and epigenetic factors, many environmental factors are known to increase the risk of developing AIT. In this review, we aimed to collect and analyze data connected with environmental factors and autoimmune thyroiditis development. Our review indicates iodine intake, vitamin D deficiency, selenium defi
