A prospective double-blind study compared the analgesic effectiveness of peribulbar lignocaine with peribulbar morphine and lignocaine for postoperative analgesia in pterygium surgery. Twenty-seven trapeziometacarpal arthrodeses were performed in 26 patients for basilar thumb joint arthritis utilizing power staple fixation. Short arm thumb spica cast immobilization was maintained for an average of 8 weeks, followed by part-time splintage for 6-12 weeks. Recurrent posterior shoulder dislocation or subluxation is uncommon but occurs occasionally in athletes. Ten patients were treated with a posterior shoulder staple capsulorrhaphy. A posterior Bankhart-type-lesion was found in all cases. Eight of the 10 patients had pain relief. A continuous infusion of 0.25% bupivaciane into the parevertebral space was used for postoperative pain relief after a lung resection. On postoperative day 1, a brachial plexus palsy developed, which resolved on discontinuation of the infusion. We believe this rare complication has not been reported previously.
