Relationship of negative life events with depression and anxiety in nursing students: a moderated mediation model of resilience and gender.

BACKGROUND: Compared to ordinary student in the same age group, nursing students experience notably higher rates of depression and anxiety. Negative life events (NLEs) and resilience were recognized as risk factors and protective factors, respectively. There is little literature on the complex interaction of these factors among nursing students. OBJECTIVES: The study aims to explore the potential relationship of NLEs, resilience, and gender with symptoms of depression and anxiety among nursing students. METHODS: A cross-sectional design was used for this study. A total of 568 participants fr

Oculomics meets exposomics: a roadmap for applying multi-modal ocular biomarkers in precision environmental health research.

Precision environmental health (PEH) is an emerging field that seeks to understand how diverse environmental exposures interact with individual biological and genetic factors to influence health outcomes. While recent advances in exposomics have enabled systematic characterization of the exposome, the integrated compilation of all physical, chemical, biological, and psychosocial influences that affect biology and health, identifying and developing sensitive biomarkers remains a critical challenge. The human eye offers unique potential for non-invasive biomarker discovery. Ocular biomarkers can

Activity of the default mode network mediates the effect of peripheral plasma glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor levels on rumination in major depressive disorder patients.

BACKGROUND: Rumination is a pivotal psychopathological process in major depressive disorder (MDD). The neurotrophic hypothesis suggests that glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) might play a role in brain dysfunction and clinical symptoms of MDD. However, the relationship remains unclear. METHODS: Thirty-three individuals with MDD and 33 healthy controls (HCs) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) while performing a rumination state task designed to induce sustained, active rumination. The Ruminative Response Scale (RRS) was administered to assess individual rum

Direct and indirect impacts of discrimination, internalized stigma, and disease disclosure on inflammatory bowel disease patient health outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Internalized stigma impacts the wellbeing of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients and has complex relationships with experiences of discrimination and disease disclosure. METHODS: We surveyed 1263 IBD Partners e-cohort participants. Discrimination and internalized stigma were measured using the Everyday Discrimination Scale (EDS) and the Paradox of Self Stigma (PaSS-24) scale. IBD disclosure was measured using a modified "outness" scale. RESULTS: Overall, 48.8% of respondents reported discrimination, and there was a strong association between discrimination and internalized

Cardiac allograft vasculopathy mediates the relationship between vitamin D deficiency and cardiovascular mortality following heart transplantation.

BACKGROUND: Patients undergoing orthotopic heart transplantation (OHT) often have vitamin D deficiency (VDD) and cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV). Both VDD and CAV are associated with activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. Although VDD is associated with adverse cardiovascular outcomes in multiple cohorts, the impact of VDD in OHT patients remains unknown. We hypothesized that lower VD levels would independently predict the presence of CAV and adverse cardiovascular outcomes. METHODS: In 327 participants with OHT recruited prospectively and followed for outcomes, baseline

Double-Negative CD4 CD8 Absolute Count Plays a Mediating Role in the Causal Relationship Between Plasma Lipids and Parkinson's Disease: A Mendel Randomized Study.

According to certain research, there might be a connection between Parkinson's disease and plasma lipidome. However, the causal effects between plasma lipidome and Parkinson's disease and whether immune cells act as a mediator remain unclear. According to some research, plasma lipids are an important risk factor for Parkinson's disease, however, whether there is a causative connection between the two is unclear. In this study, Mendelian randomization (MR) was utilized to investigate the causal effect of plasma lipidomics on Parkinson's disease while conducting mediation analysis to determine w

Decreased diffusivity along the perivascular spaces in bipolar disorder: an MRI-based cross-sectional and Mendelian randomization study.

The pathophysiology of bipolar disorder (BD) remains unclear. We investigated whether diffusion tensor imaging along perivascular spaces (DTI-ALPS), a putative MRI marker of glymphatic function, is altered in BD and whether this index relates to structural brain changes and clinical status. We recruited 108 patients with first-diagnosed and drug-naïve BD and 54 healthy controls. Participants underwent comprehensive clinical assessments (depression and mania ratings, functional disability, and neurocognition) and multimodal MRI (DTI-ALPS, free water [FW, a putative biomarker of neuroinflammatio

Developmental Pathways From Childhood Neurodevelopmental Traits to Early Adolescent Psychiatric Dimensions: The Role of Environmental and Lifestyle Factors.

OBJECTIVE: Transdiagnostic dimensional approaches have advanced our understanding of psychiatric comorbidity and developmental continuity, but have rarely been applied to investigate links between neurodevelopmental (eg, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism) and other psychiatric conditions. Building on recent research delineating a transdiagnostic "neurodevelopmental spectrum," we examined longitudinal associations between this spectrum in late childhood and other psychiatric dimensions in early adolescence, and the role of environmental and lifestyle factors as potential mediator

Adverse childhood experiences and adult employment outcomes: Unpacking mechanisms across the life course.

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are increasingly recognized as determinants of long-term health and development, yet their effects on employment outcomes in adulthood remain understudied. This study examines the association between ACEs during adolescence and two employment outcomes in adulthood: unemployment status and precarious employment. Based on a life course framework, we also explored five potential mediators: educational attainment, locus of control, incarceration, depressive symptoms, and self-rated health. Data were drawn from three waves (Waves I, IV, and V) of the National Lo

Childhood trauma and risky sexual behaviors: Comparing positive and negative emotion-related processes.

BACKGROUND: Childhood trauma (CT) is associated with a range of adverse outcomes in adulthood, including increased engagement in risky sexual behaviors (RSBs). Theoretically, individuals with a history of CT may experience difficulties with regulating emotions, resulting in maladaptive behavioral responses that occur during emotional experiences. However, it is unclear whether positive or negative emotions primarily drive these behaviors. OBJECTIVE: The present study sought to compare the mediating role of positive and negative emotion dysregulation in the relationship between CT and RSBs. P
