Effects of a 24-week resistance exercise program on brain amyloid and Alzheimer's disease blood-based biomarkers: the AGUEDA randomized controlled trial.

We examined whether a 24-week resistance training program influenced brain amyloid-β (Aβ) and Alzheimer's Disease (AD)-related blood-based biomarkers. Ninety cognitively normal, physically inactive older adults aged 65-80 years were randomly allocated to a 24-week resistance training program (three ∼60-min supervised sessions/week) or a wait-list control group. Primary analyses assessed exercise-induced changes in brain Aβ (Centiloid values) and plasma ptau217/Aβ1-42 IPMS ratio. Secondary analyses examined ptau217/Aβ42 SIMOA ratio, ptau217, ptau181 and Aβ42/40, as well as potential interaction

Spike antibody levels and risk of SARS-CoV-2 reinfection: a two-year cohort study in previously infected adults.

BACKGROUND: The need for a validated correlate of protection (CoP) for SARS-CoV-2 remains unmet, particularly in immunosuppressed or vulnerable populations. Antibody quantification is widely available, but the relationship with reinfection risk remains uncertain. METHODS: We conducted a two-year cohort study in Denmark including 2960 adults with previous SARS-CoV-2 infection and more than 9000 plasma samples collected between 2020 and 2022. Spike antibody concentrations were measured using the Roche Elecsys® Anti-SARS-CoV-2 S assay. Weekly antibody levels were modelled by nonlinear mixed-effe

Barriers to Long COVID Care in the U.S.: An Application of Levesque et al.'s Access Framework.

Long COVID is a condition that arose during the COVID-19 pandemic in individuals who developed the multi-system chronic condition after a COVID-19 infection. During the pandemic in the United States (U.S.), these "COVID long-haulers" navigated a complex and overburdened health care system in pursuit of diagnoses and treatments. This qualitative secondary analysis used the 2013 Levesque et al. Conceptual Model of Healthcare Access to examine multidimensional health care access issues faced by 29 COVID long-haulers in the U.S. Our analysis showed that long-haulers faced complementary issues from

Temporal and demographic trends in infective gastroenteritis-related mortality among U.S. adults: A 25-year nationwide analysis (1999-2023).

BACKGROUND: Infective gastroenteritis remains an important cause of gastrointestinal-related mortality in the United States despite medical advances. Antibiotic resistance, increasing immunosuppression, and population aging may contribute to its burden, yet long-term national mortality trends and disparities are incompletely defined. METHODS: CDC WONDER multiple cause of death data from 1999-2023 were analyzed for U.S. adults aged ≥25 years. Age-adjusted mortality rates (AAMRs) per 100,000 were calculated. Joinpoint Regression v5.2.0 estimated annual percent changes (APCs) with 95 % confidenc

Cold Climate and Alzheimer's Disease: A Narrative Review of Biomedical and Environmental Mechanisms.

Emerging evidence suggests that exposure to cold environments may influence Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathogenesis through interconnected vascular, inflammatory, metabolic, and thermoregulatory mechanisms. Aging impairs physiological resilience to cold stress, which may exacerbate neurodegenerative processes in vulnerable individuals. This narrative review summarizes findings from epidemiological, mechanistic, and interventional studies on the relationship between cold exposure and AD. This article is a narrative review informed by a structured literature search conducted in PubMed and Scopus d

Millet-based rice analogues for sustainable food systems: a comprehensive review on advancements, characterization, challenges, and future prospects for enhancing food security and health.

Rice is a crucial dietary staple for over half of the global population. Yet, its commonly consumed polished form contains high carbohydrate levels and has a high glycemic index (GI), contributing to metabolic disorders such as diabetes and iron deficiency anemia. With growing consumer interest in health-oriented foods, there is a need to develop nutritionally enhanced rice alternatives that align with existing dietary habits. Millets, naturally rich in protein, dietary fiber, and micronutrients and characterized by a low GI, offer a promising strategy for improving food and nutritional proper

Modeling the empathy-self-discovery paradox in Gen Z social behavior with NPD using artificial neural networks.

This study investigates the resurgence of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) among Generation Z, theorizing its popularity as a social code that both reveals and responds to a contemporary "empathy-self-discovery paradox" with correlates to narcissistic personality traits. We posit that the MBTI's function as an identity marker fulfills needs for belonging while simultaneously enabling a curated, performative self-presentation aligned with subclinical narcissistic dynamics, such as external validation-seeking and identity fragmentation. Framed within theories of consumer sociology, the Bar

Integrated analysis of PM2.5 chemical characteristics and multi-pollutant health risks in Central Taiwan: Implications for optimizing the air quality health index (AQHI) during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Conventional Air Quality Index (AQI) systems often underrepresent multi-pollutant health impacts. The Air Quality Health Index (AQHI), which integrates daily concentrations of PM2.5, O3, and NO2 to estimate population-level health risks, addresses this limitation by accounting for multi-pollutant exposure effects. This study investigated the chemical characteristics of PM2.5 in Taichung, Taiwan, from 2020 to 2022, focusing on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and water-soluble ions (WSIs) across industrial and traffic areas. During pandemic restrictions, remote work and online learning i

Healthcare costs of COVID-19 hospitalization in maintenance hemodialysis patients during the first two pandemic waves in Romania: a retrospective cohort study.

Patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis were highly vulnerable during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic because treatment continuity required repeated exposure to healthcare settings, while multiple comorbidities increased severe infection risk. Although many studies reported clinical outcomes in dialysis populations, fewer assessed hospitalization costs, particularly in Eastern Europe. This study evaluated hospitalization costs among maintenance hemodialysis patients admitted with COVID-19 during pandemic waves in Romania: Wave 1 (March-May 2020), Wave 2 (October 2020-February 2021),
