Effects of the covid-19 pandemic on neurological diseases.

BackgroundCovid-19 has caused many complications for both the infected and those in need of medical care. This may be due to infection-related prognosis worsening or the patients' avoidance of referring to the hospital for fear of contracting the infection. The decline of acute referral to the ER of many significant conditions with severe results on both the well-being and life-expectancy is a serious concern. To address these concerns, we designed this study to evaluate the recent pandemic's impact on "in-hospital mortality" caused by neurological disorders pre and postpandemic. Methods and ma

Trends and outcomes of chronic coronary total occlusion-related ventricular tachyarrhythmias.

Our study aims to establish trends and frequencies of ventricular tachyarrhythmia (VTA) among patients with chronic coronary total occlusion (CCTO). We identified CCTO hospitalizations with and without VTA using the National Inpatient Sample. A total of 911,579 CCTO-related hospitalizations were identified, with 92,450 (10.1%) encounters associated with VTA. The CCTO-VTA cohort showed higher all-cause mortality (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 4.45, P <  0.001), longer hospital stays (6.8 vs 4.6 days; P <  0.001), and higher hospital charges ($117,382 vs $75,419; P <  0.001) compared to the CCTO n

A US Hospital-Perspective Decision-Analytic Model of Once-Weekly Rezafungin Versus Daily Echinocandin Therapy in Hospitalized Adults With Candidemia or Invasive Candidiasis: Potential Cost Savings From Earlier Discharge.

BACKGROUND: Hospitalized adults with candidemia or invasive candidiasis (C/IC) often remain inpatient to complete daily intravenous echinocandin therapy. Rezafungin, a once-weekly echinocandin, may facilitate earlier discharge in clinically stable patients. We evaluated its potential economic impact from a US hospital perspective. METHOD: A decision-analytic probabilistic model compared 2 treatment-discharge strategies in 100 hypothetical hospitalized adults with C/IC who had reached clinical stability and were otherwise dischargeable: continued inpatient daily echinocandin therapy until obse
