Exploring Knowledge and Sources of Information on Augmentative and Alternative Communication Among Board-Certified Behavior Analysts.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is often recommended to help autistic individuals develop needed skills, and as such, Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) should be prepared to assist minimally verbal individuals to learn how to communicate. Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) can be a helpful tool to assist communication for these individuals. An explanatory sequential mixed-methods study, including a survey with Likert-type and open-answer questions and a semi-structured interview, was conducted to learn if BCBAs are receiving training on AAC systems and where they are obta

Functional analysis and treatment of higher level restricted repetitive behavior displayed by individuals with autism.

To date, only one behavior analytic study has systematically examined the use of functional analysis to assess arranging and ordering, which is a form of higher level restricted and repetitive behavior (Rodriguez et al., 2012). The researchers found that arranging and ordering was automatically maintained and developed efficacious interventions that involved some form of prompting and response disruption. The current study applied the Hagopian et al. (2020) treatment model (i.e., augmented competing stimulus assessments) for automatically maintained self-injury to higher level repetitive behav

Time-Resolved Native Fluorescence Imaging of the Migration and Band Broadening of Monoclonal Antibody During Capillary Gel Electrophoresis With Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate.

We developed an imaging-based approach to directly visualize and monitor molecular migration during capillary electrophoresis and applied it to the separation of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) by capillary gel electrophoresis with sodium dodecyl sulfate (CGE-SDS). Proteins were detected through their intrinsic fluorescence at 350 nm following excitation at 280 nm, enabling real-time observation of migration behavior without additional labeling. Time-resolved imaging allowed direct visualization of both migration and band broadening of mAbs under reducing and non-reducing conditions throughout th

Characterization of soy albumin based water-in-water emulsion and its application for entrapment of quercetin from onion peel waste.

This study characterizes water-in-water (W/W) emulsions, consisting of two immiscible water phases formulated using soy albumin with locust bean gum, guar gum, or xanthan gum as sustainable alternatives to traditional emulsions reliant on synthetic stabilizers. The emulsions were tested at varying protein-polysaccharide ratios, the 60:40 ratio of soy albumin and LBG (SL-6) exhibited optimal properties, including the smallest particle size (0.250 ± 0.015 μm), lowest interfacial tension (1.531 ± 0.061 mN/m), and superior rheological behavior. Stability was observed over 0-52 h, with SL-6 showing

Application-Dependent Early-Phase Stability of Autologous Fibrin Glue in Endoscopic Transsphenoidal Surgery.

BACKGROUND: In endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery (eTSS), fibrin sealants are applied in a confined and frequently inclined operative field, where early-phase material behavior may influence sealant retention and procedural controllability before complete polymerization. Autologous fibrin glue is characterized by slower polymerization kinetics, which may influence its early-phase coagulation behavior immediately after application. However, the clinical relevance of this early-phase coagulation behavior and its association with application techniques remain unclear. METHODS: We retrospectively

Multidimensional analysis of behavior predicts genotype with high accuracy in a mouse model of Angelman syndrome.

Angelman syndrome (AS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder caused by loss of expression of the maternal copy of the UBE3A gene. Individuals with AS have a multifaceted behavioral phenotype consisting of deficits in motor function, epilepsy, cognitive impairment, sleep abnormalities, as well as other comorbidities. Effectively modeling this behavioral profile and measuring behavioral improvement will be crucial for the success of ongoing and future clinical trials. Foundational studies have defined an array of behavioral phenotypes in the AS mouse model. However, no single behavioral test is able

Identifying stable phase coupling associated with cerebral autoregulation using the synchrosqueezed cross-wavelet transform and low oscillation morlet wavelets.

A novel method of identifying stable phase coupling behavior of two signals within the wavelet transform time-frequency plane is presented. The technique employs the cross-wavelet transform to provide a map of phase coupling followed by synchrosqueezing to collect the stable phase regime information. The resulting synchrosqueezed cross-wavelet transform method (Synchro-CrWT) is illustrated using a synthetic signal and then applied to the analysis of the relationship between biosignals used in the analysis of cerebral autoregulation function.

A tutorial on fitting joint models of M/EEG and behavior to understand cognition.

We present motivation and practical steps necessary to find parameter estimates of joint models of behavior and neural electrophysiological data. This tutorial is written for researchers wishing to build joint models of human behavior and scalp and intracranial electroencephalographic (EEG) or magnetoencephalographic (MEG) data, and more specifically those researchers who seek to understand human cognition. Although these techniques could easily be applied to animal models, the focus of this tutorial is on human participants. Joint modeling of M/EEG and behavior requires some knowledge of exis

The functional relevance of right DLPFC and VMPFC in risk-taking behavior.

BACKGROUND: The prefrontal cortex can be partialized in various anatomical and functional sub regions. Among those regions, both right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (rDLPFC) and ventromedial prefrontal cortex (VMPFC) have been associated with risk-taking behavior based on neuroimaging studies. Noninvasive brain stimulation (NIBS) studies aiming at demonstrating the functional relevance of neural activity in these areas almost exclusively focused on the rDLPFC, where its experimental stimulation with a (generally) inhibitory protocol lead to a measurable increase in risk-taking behavior due to
