An unusual case of metastatic male breast cancer to the nasopharynx-review of literature.

Metastatic breast carcinoma has been described to the various areas in the head and neck region. However, these metastases are rarely found in nasopharynx. Herein we are presenting the first case of male breast carcinoma with the longest survival secondary to distant metastases in right maxillary sinus and extending to the nasopharynx with extensive skeletal & lung metastases. Here we present a case of 65-year-old male with past medical history of right breast carcinoma, presented clinically with symptoms of recurrent sinusitis. Physical examination revealed a mass in the nasopharynx, which su

Gynecomastia: pathophysiology, evaluation, and management.

Gynecomastia, defined as benign proliferation of male breast glandular tissue, is usually caused by increased estrogen activity, decreased testosterone activity, or the use of numerous medications. Although a fairly common presentation in the primary care setting and mostly of benign etiology, it can cause patients considerable anxiety. The initial step is to rule out pseudogynecomastia by careful history taking and physical examination. A stepwise approach that includes imaging and laboratory testing to exclude neoplasms and endocrinopathies may facilitate cost-effective diagnosis. If results

An unusual occurrence of multiple primary malignant neoplasms: a case report and narrative review.

INTRODUCTION: Multiple primary malignant neoplasms (MPMNs) are cancers presenting distinct pathological types that originate from different tissues or organs. They are categorized as either synchronous or metachronous. Nowadays, the incidence of MPMN is increasing. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We present a case of a 71-year-old male patient with a medical history of hepatitis B and a family history of breast and endometrial cancers. The patient reported a nasal tip skin lesion with recurrent bleeding, and the history disclosed lower urinary tract symptoms. Further investigations revealed the coexist

A tale of recurrent secretory carcinoma of submandibular gland in an adolescent male: A rare presentation of a rare tumor.

Mammary analogue secretory carcinoma (MASC) is a rare salivary gland tumor which shares its histologic, immunohistochemical, and genetic features with the secretory carcinoma (SC) of breast. In this case report, we describe a case of MASC in a young adolescent male with swelling in the right angle of mandible which is a relatively rare site to present along with its correlation of cytological, histological, and immunohistochemical features. A 16-year-old male came with the complaint of swelling in the right angle of mandible since 2 years. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) neck reve

Giant myofibroblastoma of the male breast: a case report and literature review.

Myofibroblastomas are soft-tissue neoplasms that are thought to arise from myofibroblasts. They are mostly observed in males 41-85 years of age; however, this lesion also occurs in women. The usual clinical presentation is a unilateral painless lump that is not adherent to overlying or underlying structures. Microscopically, myofibroblastomas can be divided into 5 subtypes: classical, epithelioid, collagenised, cellular, and infiltrative. Mammary ducts and lobules are absent in the typical histological subtypes and the adjacent breast parenchyma may form a pseudocapsule. The majority of myofib

The surgical management of pediatric breast masses.

Information regarding the surgical management of breast masses in the pediatric age group is sparse and is primarily directed at unusual neoplasms. We have reviewed the surgical treatment of 50 patients with inflammatory and neoplastic breast masses occurring in a 15-year period (1957 to 1973) at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. There were 42 girls and 8 boys, ranging in age from 12 days to 18 years. All patients had either surgical excision or incision and drainage of the masses with a subsequent histologic diagnosis. A variety of pathologic entities were encountered, but there were no

Salivary Gland Secretory Carcinoma in the Facial Region: A Pediatric Case Presentation.

Salivary gland secretory carcinoma (SC) represents a rare, slow-growing, low-grade malignant neoplasm that occurs mainly in the parotid gland. It has a slight predilection for the male gender and usually appears in adulthood. The morphologic and immunohistochemical features are like those observed in secretory breast carcinoma; however, it has been described as a distinct salivary gland tumor. Its clinical characteristics remain nonspecific and therefore can be misdiagnosed. This report describes a 12-year-old patient who presented with a slow, progressive, painless, and deforming mass at the

Hamartomatous Polyp of the Palatine Tonsil in an Adolescent: A Case Report.

A hamartoma is a benign tumor that arises from the disorganized proliferation of tissue and can occur anywhere in the body. Hamartomas are notably found in the lung, skin, heart, brain, and breast, while their occurrence in the head and neck is rare. We describe a case involving a 17-year-old male patient who presented with a mass in a unilateral palatine tonsil, discovered incidentally. The patient was treated with tonsillectomy and, after pathological review, was diagnosed with a hamartomatous polyp of the palatine tonsil. Our case report highlights this rare benign neoplasm and presents a r

Breast ultrasound in the management of gynecomastia in Peutz-Jeghers syndrome in monozygotic twins: two case reports.

INTRODUCTION: Peutz-Jeghers syndrome is an autosomal dominant disease with incomplete penetrance and variable expression caused by germline mutation of serine threonine kinase 11/liver kinase B1; it is characterized by hamartomatous polyps in the gastrointestinal tract, mucocutaneous melanin pigmentation, and increased predisposition to neoplasms. In Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, bilateral Sertoli cell testicular tumors cause endocrine manifestations including gynecomastia and feminization. This study aimed to assess the role of breast ultrasound in the evaluation of the effectiveness of an innovati

Solitary Fibrous Tumors of the Breast: Report of Two Cases and Systematic Review.

PURPOSE: Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms most commonly found in the pleura, but may also arise in other locations. Breast SFTs are extremely rare and infrequently reported. Descriptive data on the clinical, radiological, and pathological characteristics of breast SFTs are important for improving understanding of the disease, treatment strategies, and follow-up planning. METHODS: The pathology databases of major surgical centers in Hong Kong, covering January 2020 to June 2023, were assessed to identify cases with a diagnostic code for SFT. A systematic literature

Testosterone therapy in females is not associated with increased cardiovascular or breast cancer risk: a claims database analysis.

BACKGROUND: Testosterone therapy (TTh) has been shown to improve libido in women with sexual dysfunction, but its utilization has been limited due to concern for cardiovascular events and past studies reporting highly variable results. AIM: To assess the association of TTh in women with major adverse cardiac events (MACEs), including heart attack, stroke, or death, using a large database. METHODS: The TriNetX Diamond Network was queried from 2009 to 2022. Our study cohort included adult females with ≥3 systemic testosterone prescriptions within a year. Our control cohort excluded females wit

Polarizable crystals in apocrine sweat gland tumors: A series of 3 cases.

Polarizable calcium oxalate (CaOx) crystals have been well documented in breast biopsies, generally associated with benign apocrine metaplasia. In contrast, polarizable crystals are only rarely reported in skin adnexal neoplasms. We report 3 different cases of sweat gland tumors with polarizable crystals morphologically suggestive of CaOx: 1 apocrine hidrocystoma and 2 tubular apocrine adenomas. The histologic features were examined in 3 cases. Clinical presentation summary included 2 males and 1 female, ages 53 to 74 years, with lesions located on the left cheek, inferior vertex scalp and the

A 12-year experience at a tertiary hospital on patients with multiple primary malignant neoplasms.

PURPOSE: The incidence of multiple primary malignant neoplasms (MPMN) has dramatically increased. The purpose of this retrospective study was to present the 12-year experience at a University Hospital in patients with MPMN and to investigate the role of genetic factors in their pathogenesis. METHODS: The medical records of 7516 cancer patients, treated in our Institution from 2000 to 2012, were reviewed. Diagnosis of MPMN was based on the Warren and Gates' criteria. RESULTS: Among 7516 patients, 39 (0.5%) (10 men, mean age 70.0±6.98 years, and 29 women, mean age 64.7±8.24 years) presented wi

Salivary gland second cancer after bone sarcoma treatment.

PURPOSE: Second malignant neoplasms (SMN) or second cancers may occur in 2-5 % of childhood cancer survivors within 5-25 years after diagnosis and treatment of a bone sarcoma. The most common are leukemia and breast cancer; salivary gland SMN are exceptional. To enhance the literature, we reviewed our patients with bone sarcomas and evaluated the incidence and outcome of salivary gland SMN. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively studied all patients with osteosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma treated at the Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli with chemotherapy from January 1983 to December 2012. Gestational macromastia complicating pregnancy: A case report of unusual bilateral giant breasts in a patient who had no such problem in her previous pregnancies.

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: Gestational macromastia is a rare disorder involving excessive breast tissue enlargement during pregnancy, potentially threatening the fetus and the mother. Our patient's previous pregnancies were more physiological, without any associated symptoms. ABSTRACT: Moderate bilateral enlargement of the breasts is a normal finding during pregnancy and lactation. Occasionally, there is a continuity from this physiological hypertrophy to massive breast hyperplasia or gigantomastia, causing complications that threaten the wellbeing of the fetus and the mother or raising alarm for

Burden of Cancer Mortality in the Canadian Armed Forces, 1976-2012: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Military personnel may have potential exposures to carcinogens during their military careers. However, the generalizability of causal evidence between occupational exposures and cancer outcomes in military personnel is limited. This study aims to describe the epidemiology cause-specific cancer mortality in still serving and released Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) personnel recruited between 1976 and 2012. METHODS: Data came from the Canadian Forces Cancer and Mortality Study II (CF CAMS II), a record-linkage study of approximately 228,685 CAF Regular Force personnel and Reservists. S
