BACKGROUND: Patients with cancer almost universally report diminished health-related quality of life. Many patients experience persistent fatigue and most have below-average exercise capacities. Despite the publication of exercise guidelines for cancer survivors that encourage physical activity, few patients exercise on a regular basis. Cardiovascular disease is a major cause of death in early-stage malignancies. Exercise training has been demonstrated to decrease cardiovascular events in patients with cancer. In addition, regular exercise improves exercise capacity, reduces fatigue, and impro

Protein corona, a layer predominantly composed of proteins and other biomolecules that forms on nanoparticle surfaces upon interaction with biological fluids, has recently been extensively utilized to enhance the depth of plasma proteomics and biomarker discovery. In this study, we integrate protein corona profiling with mass spectrometry (MS)-based bottom-up proteomics (BUP), machine learning, and causality analysis to identify potential biomarkers in the field of cardio-oncology. We selected prostate cancer (PC) and atherosclerosis as model cardio-oncology diseases, given that PC is the most

Cardiovascular disease and cancer have a major interplay across different contexts, with mental health being an important component when assessing both patients with cardiovascular disease and cancer. Over the years, cardio-oncology rehabilitation programs have evolved to encompass comprehensive multidisciplinary interventions, aiming to address several facets of cardiovascular disease among cancer survivors. Psychosocial support is a core element of contemporary programs, underscoring the relevance of this area. In this article, an overview of core concepts, current paradigms, and challenges

Cardiovascular disease and cancer are the leading cause of mortality in the United States. In 2021, there were 695,547 and 605,213 deaths due to heart disease and cancer, respectively. With novel oncologic and cardiac therapies, survival has improved leading to increased life-expectancy albeit with chronic illness burden. Arrhythmia management in patients with cancer, whether active or in remission, can be quite challenging. In this review, we will discuss high-risk oncological therapies, prevention, and management of Atrial fibrillation, Ventricular Arrhythmias, and Bradyarrhythmias.

A growing body of evidence on a wide spectrum of adverse cardiac events following oncologic therapies has led to the emergence of cardio-oncology as an increasingly relevant interdisciplinary specialty. This also calls for better risk-stratification for patients undergoing cancer treatment. Machine learning (ML), a popular branch discipline of artificial intelligence that tackles complex big data problems by identifying interaction patterns among variables, has seen increasing usage in cardio-oncology studies for risk stratification. The objective of this comprehensive review is to outline the

Recently, we have witnessed major improvements in cancer treatment. Early diagnosis and development of new therapies have reduced cancer-related mortality. However, these new therapies, along with greater patient survival, are associated with an increase in untoward effects, particularly in the cardiovascular system. Although cardiotoxicity induced by oncologic treatments affects predominantly the myocardium, it can also involve other structures of the cardiovascular system, becoming one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in those who survive cancer. The main objective of cardio-onc

Cardio-Oncology is a rapidly growing sub-specialty of medicine, however, there is very limited guidance on the use of cardiac CT (CCT) in the care of Cardio-Oncology patients. In order to fill in the existing gaps, this Expert Consensus statement comprised of a multidisciplinary collaboration of experts in Cardiology, Radiology, Cardiovascular Multimodality Imaging, Cardio-Oncology, Oncology and Radiation Oncology aims to summarize current evidence for CCT applications in Cardio-Oncology and provide practice recommendations for clinicians.

The advent of cancer immunotherapies, including immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI), Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR-T) cell therapies, and bispecific antibodies and other immune-activating platforms such as therapeutic vaccines and oncolytic viruses (often used in combination regimens) has revolutionized oncology by improving patient outcomes across diverse malignancies. However, these therapies are increasingly linked to cardiovascular toxicities such as myocarditis, arrhythmias, and heart failure, posing significant clinical challenges. Here we review current evidence on the mechanisms, clini

Heart failure is a complex clinical syndrome, whose signs and symptoms are caused by functional or structural impairment of ventricular filling or ejection of blood. Due to the interaction among anticancer treatment, patients' cardiovascular background, including coexisting cardiovascular diseases and risk factors, and cancer itself, cancer patients develop heart failure. Some drugs for cancer treatment may cause heart failure directly through cardiotoxicity or indirectly through other mechanisms. Heart failure in turn may make patients lose effective anticancer treatment, thus affecting the p

The care for patients with cancer has advanced greatly over the past decades. A combination of earlier cancer diagnosis and greater use of traditional and new systemic treatments has decreased cancer-related mortality. Effective cancer therapies, however, can result in short- and long-term comorbidities that can decrease the net clinical gain by affecting quality of life and survival. In particular, cardiovascular complications of cancer treatments can have a profound effect on the health of patients with cancer and are more common among those with recognized or unrecognized underlying cardiov

The growing number of patients after oncological treatment makes knowledge about potential cardiovascular complications of cancer therapy particularly important. Early recognition of symptoms enables the rapid initiation of appropriate therapy and improves outcomes. Education in this field increases awareness of the need for regular cardiology follow-up and adherence to health recommendations. It is advisable for patient education on the risk of cardiotoxicity to be included during visits with both the oncologist and the cardiologist. A self-developed questionnaire was used. It consisted of 40

Cancer and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are global health challenges. In cancer patients, CVD is the second leading cause of death following disease progression. There are few specialized services for cardio-oncology patients worldwide currently. Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) are essential amino acids that promote protein synthesis and energy homeostasis. The disruption of BCAAs metabolism facilitates the development of cancer and CVDs while the benefit of BCAA supplement is full of controversy. In this review, we summarized BCAA-related studies in cardiometabolism, cancer and chemother

Hypertension is one of the most common comorbidity and the leading cause of cancer-related death in cancer patients. The prevalence of hypertension in cancer patients is much higher than that of the general population. In the older population of cancer patients, specific cancer treatments such as new tyrosine kinase inhibitors and Vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitor drugs give rise to hypertension in cancer patients; The aim of present study is to provide a detailed discussion etiologies of cancer treatment-induced hypertension and explore the most innovative diagnostic and management
