Maternal mobile phone use during pregnancy versus early childhood in relation to behavioral problems in preschool-aged children: A prospective cohort study.

Evidence on the effect of maternal mobile phone use on child behavioral development remains inconsistent, particularly regarding the relative importance of the prenatal and early childhood exposure periods. We aimed to examine associations between maternal mobile phone call duration during pregnancy and early childhood and behavioral problems in preschool-aged children. We analyzed data from the Mothers and Children's Environmental Health (MOCEH) prospective birth cohort. Maternal mobile phone use was measured by questionnaire during pregnancy and at ages 3-5 years, and child behavioral proble

Exploratory randomised trial of face-to-face and mobile phone counselling against usual care for tobacco cessation in Indian primary care: a randomised controlled trial protocol for project CERTAIN.

INTRODUCTION: Despite widespread use of smokeless tobacco products by people within the Indian subcontinent, there is little awareness among Indians of its health hazards when compared with smoked tobacco. We hypothesise that mobile phone counselling will be feasible and effective for smokeless tobacco cessation intervention in India. This paper presents the protocol of the development and conduct of an exploratory trial before progression to a full randomised controlled trial. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: An exploratory randomised controlled trial will be conducted in urban primary health centres i

Telemedicine and telerehabilitation: current and forthcoming applications in haemophilia.

In persons with haemophilia (PWH), the importance of comprehensive disease management to prevent bleeding, joint damage and secondary diseases has been well established. However, because haemophilia is a chronic disease, intervention programmes carried out for prolonged periods of time may create problems of patient adherence. Driven by continuous technological innovation, telemedicine is being increasingly proposed as a way to provide PWH with a range of services designed to improve their health, saving the time and cost involved in going to the treatment centre, and increasing therapeutic ad

Harnessing technology for adolescent health promotion.

Sexually active adolescents are at risk for unintended pregnancy. Teen pregnancies can be prevented by consistent use of birth control, such as oral contraceptives. However, many teens forget their daily doses and eventually stop using oral contraceptives altogether. Teen pregnancies are more likely to be medically complicated and can adversely impact the teen, her child, and their community. Cell-phone use is becoming widespread, and teen cell-phone users frequently use text messaging. We describe a study in which we use cell-phone text-messaging technology in a novel way: we provide daily or

Length of mobile phone use mediating the effect of major depression on low back pain/sciatica: a mendelian randomization study.

PURPOSE: Accumulating evidence indicates an association between major depression (MD) and the occurrence of low back pain/sciatica (LBP/S). In order to examine this association, we conducted a Mendelian randomization (MR) study, further evaluating the extent to which the length of mobile phone use mediates the impact of MD on the risk of developing LBP/S. METHODS: Genetic instruments and association estimates for MD, LBP/S, and length of mobile phone use were extracted from existing Genome-wide Association Study (GWAS) summary data. Bidirectional two-sample MR analyses were conducted to inves

THE EFFECT OF VARIOUS CELL PHONE RELATED ACTIVITIES ON GAIT KINEMATICS.

BACKGROUND: With cell phone use and ownership on the rise, daily circumstances often require individuals to divide attentional resources between walking and a cell phone-related task. This division of attention has been found to detrimentally effect task performance, making pedestrian cell phone usage an increasing safety concern. However, most studies have investigated the impact of dual-tasks on situational awareness and few have focused on tasks other than texting. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of various cell phone-related tasks on lower limb kinematics during walki

No Digital Divide? Technology Use among Homeless Adults.

Homeless adults experience increased risk of negative health outcomes, and technology-based interventions may provide an opportunity for improving health in this population. However, little is known about homeless adults' technology access and use. Utilizing data from a study of 421 homeless adults moving into PSH, this paper presents descriptive technology findings, and compares results to age-matched general population data. The vast majority (94%) currently owned a cell phone, although there was considerable past 3-month turnover in phones (56%) and phone numbers (55%). More than half curre

Linking child externalising problems to psychological distress in parents: Mobile phone use by children as a mediator.

Child externalising problems, such as acting out and hostility, have been found to be significant stressors for parents, leading to increased distress levels. This cross-sectional study examined the mediating role of parents' use of mobile phones to soothe or engage children in the association between child externalising problems and distress in parents. Altogether 937 parents of children aged 5-12 reported their child's externalising problems, child's mobile phone use, and their distress through an online survey. The findings indicated that parents of children with high externalising problems

Road Injuries Associated With Cellular Phone Use While Walking or Riding a Bicycle or an Electric Bicycle: A Case-Crossover Study.

Vulnerable road users (pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists) account for an increasing proportion of traffic injuries. We used a case-crossover study design to examine the association between cell-phone usage and traffic injuries among pedestrians, bicyclists, and electric bicycle riders during the course of their travel. We studied 643 pedestrians, bike riders, and electric bike riders aged 10-35 years who were involved in a road injury, visited the emergency department in one of the 3 hospitals in Shanghai, China, in 2019, and owned a cell phone. Half of the participants (n = 323; 50.2

Correlations between mobile phone use and other risky behaviours while riding a motorcycle.

Motorcyclist safety is a major concern in many developing countries. Understanding motorcycle riders' risky behaviours, particularly among the younger population, is essential to developing effective interventions. This paper explores the correlations between mobile phone use while riding and other risky riding behaviours as well as the relationships between perceived risks and risky riding behaviours, using an online survey of university students in Vietnam. Results show that calling while riding a motorcycle had the highest prevalence (74%) while reckless overtaking had the lowest prevalence
