The rising interest in quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) is due to its high protein content and gluten-free condition; nonetheless, the presence of foreign bodies in quinoa processing facilities is an issue that must be addressed. As a result, convolutional neural networks have been adopted, mostly because of their data extraction capabilities, which had not been utilized before for this purpose. Consequently, the main objective of this work is to evaluate convolutional neural networks with a learning transfer for foreign bodies identification in quinoa samples. For experimentation, quinoa sa

Agriculture is the pillar of Ethiopia's economy, employing over 80% of the population. However, it remains highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Promoting climate-smart agricultural practices is therefore critical. Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.), a highly nutritious pseudo-cereal with broad adaptability and efficient water use, presents a promising alternative crop for Ethiopia's diverse agro-ecologies. Its tolerance to drought and salinity makes it an ideal candidate for enhancing food and nutritional security under changing climate conditions. Therefore, this study aimed to

The antileishmanial activity of the essential oil (EO) from Chenopodium ambrosioides L. has been demonstrated in vitro and in animal models, attributed to the major components of the EO. This study focused on the effects of the three major EO compounds carvacrol, caryophyllene oxide (Caryo), and the antileishmanial endoperoxide ascaridole (Asc) on mitochondrial functions in Leishmania tarentolae promastigotes (LtP). EO and Caryo were able to partially inhibit the leishmanial electron transport chain, whereas other components failed to demonstrate a direct immediate effect. Caryo demonstrated i

This study investigated the effects of pentacyclic triterpene saponins from Chenopodium quinoa Willd. on insulin resistance (IR). Six saponin monomers (C1-C6) were isolated using semi-preparative liquid chromatography. In the T2DM zebrafish model, these compounds reduced the level of glucose, TC, TG, LDL-C, ALT, and AST, while increasing the level of HDL-C. They exerted antioxidant effects by enhancing GSH and SOD activities and reducing MDA levels. Histological analysis revealed restored liver morphology and reduced liver injury. Among the six compounds, C1, C4, and C5 demonstrated particular
