An injection filling method for packing resin media in a chromatography device for protein separation is discussed in this paper. The method is first demonstrated by packing anion exchange resin within a cuboid chromatography device and a squat column, both having 7.5 mL bed volume. Very small columns are difficult to pack, especially with rigid chromatography media. We evaluate the performance of commercial and self-packed anion exchange columns ranging from 0.2 to 10.0 mL column volume by pulse response, breakthrough curves (BTC) and linear gradient elution. This study evaluated Natrix® Q anion membrane chromatography for the purification of Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 5 capsular polysaccharide (CPS) as an alternative to conventional organic solvent-based purification and bead-based ion-exchange chromatography. Two toxic phospholipases A have been isolated from the venom of the Malayan cobra (Naja naja sputatrix). The phospholipases A were purified by successive ion-exchange chromatography on SP-Sephadex C-25, Sephadex G-75 gel filtration chromatography and successive Bio-Rex 70 ion-exchange chromatography. Following ion-exchange chromatography and subsequent thin-layer chromatography, 3 peculiar oligosaccharide excretion patterns were distinguished in 3 patients with beta-galactosidase deficiency. A method has been developed for isolating five insect-specific neurotoxins and alpha-latrotoxin from venom of the Latrodectus mactans tredecimguttatus spider by means of ion exchange chromatography on Mono Q and Mono S columns and chromatography on hydroxylapatite column. LD 50 of all the toxins are determined.

An ethanol extract of brewer's yeast which had been cultivated in a medium containing trivalent 51Cr was analyzed for 51Cr compounds by using petroleum ether extraction, gel filtration, cation and anion exchange chromatography and thin layer chromatography.
