BACKGROUND: Although endoscopic therapy is highly effective for control of GI bleeding, a small proportion of patients experience persistent bleeding and may require radiologic or surgical intervention. Experience with cyanoacrylate spray for treatment of difficult-to-control GI bleeding is limited.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of an endoscopic cyanoacrylate spray technique for treatment of difficult-to-control GI bleeding.
DESIGN: Case series.
SETTING: Two tertiary-care centers.

BACKGROUND: Despite its long history, the application of N-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) has been limited compared to other materials such as particulate agents and coils. This possibly owes to a widespread misconception that NBCA is difficult to handle and carries a high risk of complications due to its liquid nature and rapid polymerization time. However, recent reports have shown that, with knowledge and experience, NBCA is safe and effective to use in visceral arteries.
PURPOSE: To review the outcome of transcatheter embolization of the renal artery using NBCA for varied etiologies in the ki

PURPOSE: To review our experience using octyl-2-cyanoacrylate for closing the cutaneous incision in external dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR).
METHODS: A retrospective review was performed of all cases of external DCR with cyanoacrylate wound closure performed during a 12-month period. At the completion of the DCR, octyl-2-cyanoacrylate was used to close the incision. No subcutaneous sutures were placed to approximate the wound edges. Fifteen seconds of drying time elapsed before a second application of the adhesive was applied. Follow-up consisted of examinations at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months

BACKGROUND: Bleeding gastric varices is a highly fatal condition. Recurrent bleeding after hemostasis achieved by endoscopic methods is common, and obliteration of gastric varices is difficult to assess. Our aim was to investigate the use of endosonography (EUS) in monitoring cyanoacrylate injection to obliterate gastric varices.
METHODS: Patients who presented with bleeding gastric varices were treated with bolus injection(s) of cyanoacrylate (0.5 mL cyanoacrylate mixed with 0.7 mL Lipiodol) until bleeding was controlled; 47 patients received "on-demand" injection only in response to recurre

BACKGROUND: The technology used for artificial nails, the chemistry of cyanoacrylates and the reported reactions to these products are briefly reviewed.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We studied three patients with prominent fingernail dystrophy, nail bed hyperkeratosis, fingertip eczema, and onycholysis, two of whom also had eczematous lesions at distant sites, ostensibly from hand transfer. Patch testing was performed with a standard screening tray, dried cyanoacrylate adhesives, and, in one case, with fingernail clippings.
RESULTS: All three patients were prominently patch-test positive to the po

We report the use of an N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (NBCA) mixture for embolisation of six cases of carotid aneurysm after detachable balloons, and/or microcoils had been placed in the aneurysm. The mixture was injected into the aneurysm to prevent delayed bleeding or distal migration of the balloons, or microcoils. No subarachnoid haemorrhage or distal migration of the balloons or microcoils occurred up to 4.5 years after embolisation. Reflux of the NBCA mixture into the parent artery occurred in one patient, who had a neurological deficit which recovered in a month. NBCA mixture may be useful in

N-butyl cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive can be easily placed in the lid puncta to serve as a temporary method for punctal occlusion. Such a procedure is a useful therapeutic trial in borderline cases of keratoconjunctivitis sicca being considered for further permanent punctal occlusion or in patients where a temporary dry eye condition is expected to be resolved in the near future.

ObjectivesTruncal cyanoacrylate closure (CAC) does not treat refluxing tributary varicosities. We describe Side-branch Local Injection of Cyanoacrylate Embolization (SLICE) - ultrasound-guided injection of the VenaSeal adhesive into refluxing tributaries during truncal CAC - and assess its technical feasibility and periprocedural safety.MethodsSingle-center retrospective review of 32 consecutive patients (49 limbs, 58 truncal veins) treated by truncal CAC between September 2024 and December 2025; SLICE was performed in 14. The primary endpoint was technical success, defined as the absence of r

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS: The optimal treatment for gastric varices (GVs) is a topic that remains definite for this study. This study compared the clinical outcomes of clip-assisted endoscopic cyanoacrylate injection (clip-ECI) to conventional endoscopic cyanoacrylate injection (con-ECI) for the treatment of GVs with a gastrorenal shunt.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Data were collected retrospectively in five medical centers from 2015 to 2020. The patients were treated with con-ECI (n = 126) or clip-ECI (n = 148). Clinical characteristics and procedural outcomes were compared. Patients were followe

Hypersensitivity reaction (HSR) is a known adverse event after cyanoacrylate closure (CAC) for varicose veins, and surgical excision is rarely required. We report the case of surgical excision of a cyanoacrylate-filled vein due to HSR after CAC. A 68-year-old woman developed erythema and swelling of the thigh 5 days after CAC of the great saphenous vein. Symptoms persisted despite antiallergic medication, and HSR was clinically suspected. At the patient's request, surgical excision of the treated vein was performed. Histopathological examination showed dense infiltration of CD4-positive T cell

There is no established treatment for rectal varices. Although endoscopic cyanoacrylate (N-butyl 2-cyanoacrylate) injection therapy is the standard treatment for gastric varices, there are few reports of its use for rectal varices. We present a case of rectal varix that was successfully treated with endoscopic cyanoacrylate injection therapy. An 80-year-old man with cirrhosis was treated for rectal varices with interventional radiology 2 years earlier. At his current presentation, he underwent colonoscopy for hematochezia and anemia, which showed recurrence of rectal varix. We performed endosc

2-Cyanoacrylates are a unique class of compounds with high photosystem II electron transport inhibitory activity. Through the in-depth study of molecular design, synthesis, biological activity, structure-activity relationship, and action mechanism, a large number of 2-cyanoacrylate derivatives with excellent herbicidal activity were found. In addition, 2-cyanoacrylate derivatives with different substituents have also been found to have good fungicidal or anti-plant virus activities. To further guide the design and development of new pesticide candidates, the representative research work of 2-c

In the past 2 decades, varicose veins surgery went through a great turbulence and various innovations. A number of new techniques have been introduced with a goal to increase the success rate, reduce the periprocedural complications and, overall, to improve patients' quality of life. The latest of them, named cyanoacrylate embolization (CAE) technique, threatens to shake the glory of the currently well-established endovenous methods. We have analyzed all previous studies by searching MEDLINE base using PubMed. Although the idea of using n-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) glue in medical purposes was

OBJECTIVE: Cyanoacrylate (CYA) injection is recommended for bleeding gastric varices (GV) but with significant adverse effects. Transesophageal endoscopic ultrasound-guided therapy of large GV with a combined coil and CYA injection has shown promising results. However, it is expensive and requires technical expertise. In this study, we aimed to compare the safety and efficacy of a new method with UCYA [undiluated CYA (UCYA) followed by lipiodol-diluated CYA (DCYA)] in the management of large bleeding GV.
METHODS: Fifteen consecutive patients with bleeding from large GV (>1 cm) were prospectiv
