Ellis-van Creveld syndrome in adulthood: extending the clinical spectrum.

Ellis-van Creveld (EvC) syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive malformation disorder. Cardiac defects are observed in about 50% of EvC cases. Surgical data is lacking on the prognosis and life expectancy of EvC patients. Herein, we report the case of a 38-year-old man with EvC syndrome who underwent two surgical corrections for cardiac anomalies. This report supplements the available information on the clinical course of EvC syndrome in older patients.

Liver transplantation in Ellis-van Creveld syndrome: a case report.

This case represents a rare association of Ellis-van Creveld (EvC) syndrome, a chondroectodermal disorder, with congenital paucity of bile ducts. Sequential liver biopsies during the patient's childhood demonstrated progressive fibrosis that can occur in other chondrodysplastic malformations. However, this EvC case is the first report to demonstrate paucity of intra-hepatic bile ducts progressing to cirrhosis and subsequently requiring transplant.

[Clinico-roentgenologic semeiotics of chondroectodermal dysplasia (Ellis-van Creveld syndrome)].

The paper is devoted to the description of a rare hereditary systemic skeletal disease--chondroectodermal dysplasia (CED). The clinical symptoms of CED are divided into 4 groups. On the basis of 2 cases, symptoms of the affection of the locomotor system in patients with Ellis-van Creveld syndrome are analyzed. An x-ray picture of hand and foot lesions is characterized not only by change in the shape, size, number and synostosis of some bones but also by marked reorganization of osseous tissue in the epimetaphysial regions. X-ray examination was shown to be the chief method for investigation of

Chondroectodermal dysplasia (Ellis-van Creveld syndrome): report of two cases.

Our two patients with chondroectodermal dysplasia had most of the classic manifestations of the syndrome. The simultaneous occurrence of partial anodontia and embedded supernumerary and second premolars in the mandible in one patient was interesting. The inverted impaction of the left maxillary lateral incisor is also a unique finding. The median fissure on the tongue may be an associated developmental anomaly of the syndrome.

Ellis-van Creveld syndrome in an Indian child: a case report.

Ellis-van Creveld syndrome is a rare congenital genetic disorder having autosomal recessive inheritance. It is a syndrome affecting the Amish population of Pennsylvania in USA with prevalence rate of 1/5,000 live at birth. In non-Amish population, the birth prevalence is 7/1,000,000. The syndrome is characterized by bilateral postaxial polydactyly of the hands, chondrodysplasia of long bones resulting in acromesomelic dwarfism, ectodermal dysplasia affecting nails as well as teeth and congenital heart malformation. There were very rare reports of this syndrome in dentistry. The present case fo

Correction of knee deformity in patients with Ellis-van Creveld syndrome.

Six knees in three patients with Ellis-van Creveld syndrome were treated with lateral soft tissue release and corrective osteotomy of the tibia at 10 years of age on average. The main feature was valgus deformity with lateral dislocation of the patella. All patellae were reduced. The valgus deformity improved from 35 degrees (range, 48 degrees-20 degrees) to 17 degrees (range, 35 degrees-5 degrees) of the femorotibial angle (FTA) on average, although the FTA in five of six knees was < 5 degrees after surgery. There was one recurrent case and one transient peroneal nerve palsy. The reason for u

The gene for the Ellis-van Creveld syndrome is located on chromosome 4p16.

Ellis-van Creveld syndrome (EVC) is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by disproportionate dwarfism, polydactyly, and congenital heart disease. This rare disorder is found with increased frequency among the Old Order Amish community in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. We have used linkage analysis to localize the gene responsible for the EVC phenotype in nine interrelated Amish pedigrees and three unrelated families from Mexico, Ecuador, and Brazil. We now report the linkage for the Ellis-van Creveld syndrome gene to markers on the distal short arm of human chromosome 4, with Zmax =

Ellis-van Creveld syndrome: Report of a case and recurrent variant.

BACKGROUND: Ellis-van Creveld syndrome (EvCS) is a rare autosomal recessive skeletal dysplasia that is characterized by short stature, short limbs, short ribs, polydactyly and structural heart defect. Despite locus heterogeneity, in the majority of the cases, the disorder segregates with mutations in the EVC and EVC2 genes, notably mutations with truncating protein as a final sequence. In the present study, we report the prenatal findings and genetic analysis of a terminated pregnancy affected by severe thoracic and skeletal dysplasia. METHODS: After detailed physical and clinical examination

Type 1 diabetes in a patient with Ellis-van Creveld syndrome.

CONTEXT: Ellis-van Creveld (EVC) syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive disease characterized by disproportionate short stature, narrow thorax, postaxial polydactyly, nail and tooth abnormalities and congenital heart disease. CASE REPORT: The patient was a 22-year-old Caucasian man, the third child of consanguineous parents. He received the diagnosis of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (DM) at 16 years of age, and around one year later, he underwent surgery to correct a partial atrioventricular septal defect. Upon physical examination, at 22 years of age, he presented stature of 145.5 cm (

Ellis van Creveld syndrome in a Tunisian child revealed by an Eisenmenger syndrome.

Ellis-van Creveld syndrome (EvC) is an autosomal recessive inherited disease resulting from mutations in EVC1 or EVC2. Patients with this condition normally have chondrodysplasia, postaxial polydactyly, ectodermal dysplasia and congenital heart defects. We report the case of a 13-year-old Tunisian child who was admitted for cyanosis and acute heart failure. On clinical examination, he presented with typical features of EvC, cyanosis and dyspnea. EvC was confirmed by genetic tests, and echocardiography showed a partial atrioventricular canal defect with supra-systemic pulmonary artery pressure.

Ellis-van Creveld syndrome: skeletal dysplasia with associated hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

We report a case of an antenatal patient who was referred with an anomaly scan of a fetus suspected to have skeletal dysplasia associated with a hypoplastic heart. Genetic counselling was provided, and the opinions of the geneticist and paediatrician were sought. Risk and prognosis stratification were discussed with the couple. Amniocentesis was done as per the Preconception and Prenatal Diagnostic Techniques Act after informed consent. Termination of pregnancy was performed medically at 22 weeks and 2 days as per the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Amendment Act, 2021. On whole exome sequenc

Ellis-Van Creveld Syndrome: Clinical and Molecular Analysis of 50 Individuals.

BACKGROUND: Ellis-Van Creveld (EVC) syndrome is one of the entities belonging to the skeletal ciliopathies short rib-polydactyly subgroup. Major signs are ectodermal dysplasia, chondrodysplasia, polydactyly and congenital cardiopathy, with a high degree of variability in phenotypes ranging from lethal to mild clinical presentations. The EVC and EVC2 genes are the major genes causative of EVC syndrome. However, an increased number of genes involved in the ciliopathy complex have been identified in EVC syndrome, leading to a better understanding of its physiopathology, namely, WDR35, GLI1, DYNC2

Late survival in Ellis-van Creveld syndrome with common single atrium.

Ellis-van Creveld (EVC) syndrome is a relatively rare chondroectodermal dysplasia considered mainly as a generalised disorder of the maturation of endochondral ossification. Congenital heart disease occurs in approximately half of the patients with EVC syndrome, 60% of which is a common atrium. Common atrium is a rare variety of interatrial communication characterised by absence or virtual absence of the atrial septum. Patients with this syndrome rarely survive to an old age. We report a case of EVC who presented for the first time at 60 years of age, as survival to an advanced age is exceptio
